I really love the idea of MCU Spider-Man and Insomniac Spider-Man crossover. Because it's really good and interesting, because it's cute to see how early-films MCU Peter interacts with himself from another world. The Brand New Day blurs the line between them a bit, but that's for another time. The thing is. I think MCU Tony would be terrified of meeting Insomniac Peter. And not because the guy is scary, or rude, or anything else. No, quite the opposite. He's sweet, he's polite, he's smart and in overall nice to deal with. Just like Tony's kid, this guy has a lot of wit to himself, just a bit polished, but yet again, he's an adult, twenty three years old, not a teenager anymore. But he's terrifyingly adult. He's not a kid, not a teen, but a man. A man with real fighting experience. With real WAR experience, curse Norman Osborn and Sable International. The man who's been in the field for ten years. The man who knows how criminals think and understand their psychology, who knows first-aid rules by reflex, who knows where to find information, and who knows how to act like a spider so it would scare the shit out of people. This Peter is a veteran. He's been doing it for a whole DECADE. And he was doing it alone. Unlike Tony's kid, this Peter has no one with him. No, not like that. He has his MJ, he has his apprentice (which is wild concept on its own), he has a few others, who would help him. But during fights he's alone. MJ can't throw punches and survive a flight across the city if she would be thrown like this. The only help he can get is a freshman year student that was taught by him. So this Peter doesn't have Tony Stark as a backup plan. He doesn't have his technologies or AIs to supervise him. He doesn't have Iron Man's eye, watching over him. Insomniac Peter himself has to keep an eye on Miles, due to his guilt complex and genuine need and wish to take care of another Spider. And this Peter does not cave in. He does not allow Tony to work over his gear or suit. He does not use Tony's resources and labs, even if he knows that they are better. Insomniac Peter knows the price of privacy and quiet work over his projects. That man knows the price of every nickel and every screw bolt, creating effective devices from scrap and trash, quite literally. This man knows the price of malfunctioning equipment and what it could lead to. So Tony Stark is terrified of Insomniac Peter. He does not know how to communicate with this guy, he doesn't know if this Peter even needs it. And while looking at his kid, he's terrified of seeing the same tired expression on his face. Insomniac Peter worked for ten years straight. And he took his first ever break only because he no longer could do it. He had to step back, allowing Miles take the lead. He took his first ever break, right before it was almost too late. And Tony was afraid. He can't do this to his kid. Can't leave his Peter with a fate like this. So he tried to find a way to protect him. He came up with even more protocols and suits, even more ways to keep him safe even despite his protocols. But Tony was an engineer. He knew that the bigger the dam, the bigger the flood will be. He can't be here forever, solving problems for Peter till his grave. But... Tony doesn't want to see his Peter to flinch at every siren and loud noise, he doesn't want his kid to analyze every room on subconscious level, he doesn't want his kid to start moving absolutely silently whenever he feels out of place. And all of this in his early twenties. And yet... He feels innumerable amount of grief for the Insomniac Peter. He can't help him with his loneliness and bitter aftertaste of losing dear people way too fast. He can't protect him from real life that doesn't care about your incognito alter-ego. He can't save Peter's house from loans. He can't make him his kid too. But God knows he wants to.

You’d lost count how many times you had gushed about Spider-Man to your best friend. Not in a serious way, at least you didn’t admit it being serious, but it was impossible not to be infutiated with his persona. He was everywhere, saving the city, its residents, caring about his fans, all in all a dream man, a definition of crush material.

Peter never really said anything when you gushed about Spider-Man, he’d smile and listen but that was about it. You got it, his best friend just going on and on how hot Spider-Man is would get anyone awkward, especially when he didn’t crush on him himself, at least not that you’d know of.

But one day, as you were doing homework together, he suddenly sat up. “Uh, I need to tell you something.”

You glanced at him, but looked back at your homework. “What is it?”

He shifted. “Um, you might want to look at me when I tell you, it’s not, uh, exactly anything small. It can shock you and change everything.”

That made your smile disappear and you immediately turned towards him. “Peter, please don’t tell me you’re dying?”

“What? No!” he exclaimed, then rubbed his neck. “Well, technically I’ve died a bunch of times, but that’s not— ugh, this is coming out wrong.”

You frowned. “You’re kind of scaring me here.”

He groaned. “Okay, okay. So,” he started, shifting his gaze towards the roof. “The thing is… I’m Spider-Man.”

You stared at him for a moment, before bursting out to laughter. “That’s a good one, you almost got me there.”

He flushed bright red and after a moment, pulled his hoodie off.

Spider-Man’s costume was under it, and not one of those cheap ones that you could buy from a Halloweed store. Unless he had used hundreds of hours to create an exact replica, that was impossible for him to have.

And the white sticky liquid you had spotted a few times, the one he had tried to hide as soon as he noticed you looking at it. Was it… web fluid?

You stared at it, at him, at it, at him, Peter swallowing at least a dozen times in the meantime, waiting for your reaction.

Finally, your jaw dropped.

Peter tried to smile, but it was a grimace really. “Surprise?”

“So, you… I’ve told you I’d marry Spider-Man if I got a chance and you’ve, uh?” you murmured and slammed your hands on your face. “Oh god.”

“Yeahhhh,” he chuckled, rubbing his neck. “That was… uh, something.”

You pushed your hands even tighter on your face, and Peter was slightly worried for your eyeballs due to the pressure. “I’ve told you so many fantasies, and dreams, and… oh no.”

Peter grimaced and shrugged. “I mean… you didn’t know. I get it, really.”

Silence ensued, you spinning around a few times, clearly processing the information. Peter stood there awkwardly, shuffling the hoodie in his hands, just waiting for you to speak again.

And eventually, you fortunately did.

“I mean… I should have seen it. You disappeared every time Spider-Man appeared,” you murmured, stopping your pacing, your hands still in front of your face.

He chuckled. “Yeah, well. Classic superhero trick.”

You slowly lowered your hands from your face, swinging on your heels nervously. “So, uh. Does this mean I get to upgrade my Spider-Man crush to a Peter Parker crush?”

His eyes widened, mouth parting slightly, before a grin broke out. “I… I’d like that.”

And suddenly, the world felt much brighter than a moment ago.

The apartment door flies off its hinges, causing you to jump out the window and swing away.

a/n: not proofread. Obsessing over Spider-Man again…Sometimes (most times), I really just want to give Spider-Man a hug.

Main Masterlist

In all the days of his life, Peter never had someone he could come back to when the burdens of his double life were too much to bear until now. Y/N L/N, a regular civilian, working too many double shifts at a simple coffee shop and sandwich parlor, but even so she made time for him. 

He didn’t deserve her. 

At first, he truly thought of her as his friend, something platonic; innocent. However, after months of visiting her, nights they’d spend hours talking, the times she’d cleaned his injuries, something more delicate grew from the bonds of friendship. But Peter couldn’t decide if he should tell her or sit on that for a while. Afterall, it was only last week when he discovered his own internal feelings. Not to mention, she didn’t know who he was under the mask.

Oh well, he figured eventually he’d get around to it or at least that’s what he told himself as he stood beside Y/N on her balcony, looking out at the city. 

Something was different tonight. She was quieter than normal tonight, hardly saying a word, and when she did, Peter could tell that she was using all her might just to speak them. 

But he didn’t pressure her to talk, instead he let the ambience from the city lull the silence between them until…

“Can I ask you a question, Spider-man?”

He briefly glanced over at her, watching her obsessively rub at her eyebrow line, like there was an itch there that wouldn’t go away. “Sure.”

Spider-Man patiently watches her as she continues her ministrations to her forehead in what looks like contemplation. 

“Do you ever think about quitting being Spider-Man?”

The words washed over him with an icy realization, doused in cold water when you least expected it. 

He turned away from her, the mask’s optical slits seemingly staring at nothing as his real eyes danced over all the lights of New York. Instinctively, he wanted to reply with some light hearted notion of ‘Of course not! I do this to help people, I could never regret that!’ and while part of that was true, it wasn’t so simple as that.

So he relented, “Sometimes.”

Peter doesn’t see the way Y/N’s shoulders shake as he thinks.

He sighs, “Sometimes I think about what would happen if I just put down the mask and tried to live as a civilian. Maybe I’d finally settle down to one job, maybe I could spend time with my family, maybe…maybe I could be like everybody else.”

Over the years, Peter thought about this many times, but to actually say the words out loud was different. The guilt hung on his heart like a weight, causing him to somewhat regret saying them at all. 

Still, he looks on at the city he protects.

“But,” He continues, “I can’t allow people to suffer or die when I have the power to save them. That’s the point of Spider-Man; always has been.”

The words bring a levity to his resolution. Being Spider-Man is hard, one of the hardest things he’s ever done in his life, however, he is not blind to how he has impacted the city, people’s lives, and so he will continue to fight for them. Not only to save their lives, but maybe save their hearts too. 

Finally, Peter turned to look over to Y/N, who was shaking with harsh sobs, face glistening with fresh tears. 

“Ah!” He yelped, the panic prickling his skin as he took a rushed step toward  her. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry! Gosh, I’m so stupid…” 

Y/N shakes her head, wiping the tears away from her cheeks only to make room for more. 

Peter raises his arms out, wanting to hold her, but isn’t sure if he should. 

“I’m scared for you, you know.” She mutters.

He pauses, arms lowering to his side. “What?”

Heaving in tearful exhaustion, Y/N looks up at him, exposing the redness of her eyes and stained face to him. Peter feels his throat ache at the sight.

“I’m scared for you, scared of what could become of you.” She confesses, hands fidgety up and down, going from her face to her sides and back up again because she just doesn’t know what else to do with them.

Peter’s mouth hangs slack, frozen in its shock when Y/N huffs with despair.

“I know that I don't know who you are but I know that you are a person under that mask and as strange as it may seem, I want you to be happy, safe because with all you’ve given to this city, you deserve peace.” 

She punctuates her last word with a sob that rips through her without any warning before she buries her face into her hands, fully letting out the twisted emotions with no hesitation.

All it takes is a few seconds, not even that, for Peter to step closer, arms raised then wrapping snugly around her trembling form. She doesn’t resist or pull away, she only folds herself into him. 

He buries his face into her shoulder, his mouth dry, throat squeezing on itself, vision blurring with the threat of crying. There are so many things he wants to say, admit; his own fears, his loneliness, his anger, sadness, regret, love, and care. 

He doesn’t know where to start so instead he says the one thing that might matter the most right now.

“Thank you.”

a/n: I was watching gameplay of the 2018 PS4 Spider-Man game again and I felt bad for Peter at some point (because of all the things he does in New York and people still hate on him) so I made this completely self indulging one-shot because Spider-man deserves a damn hug. His favorite games are Zelda, Assassin's Creed and Life is Strange.

Can NOT wrap presents, so he gives most gifts in either bags or just straight up.

Before dating you... he didn't get much action. So be patient, he's just a little guy <3
