#psyc 2130

Hi there! This is a question for M because I believe she's in the psyc program. I'm currently enrolled in PSYC 2130 Personality. I'm not sure if I should take the class with Prof. Marchese or Phillips. If anyone has taken the course with either profs can you please give me feedback?

M is no longer with this blog, but I also have taken Personality and I have had classes with both Marchese and Phillips. 

Phillips is highly recommended by many of my friends, however I made the grave mistake of taking her 8.30am Personality class. Do not take a 8.30am class LOL. Phillips does not use slides so if you’re a visual learner you’re gonna have a hard time. Her exams are not based on the test banks and you need to participate in class to ace them. 

Marchese is a great lecturer and his exams are very straightforward. He also uses visual aids during his lectures and puts up notes online, which works for me personally. I also like his style of delivering lectures. 

I’d say sit in both of their classes and see what works for you! Good luck!

Hey LV, what's your opinion on Krista Phillips for Personality ?:)

Hi :D 

I dislike the lectures very much but this is mostly because I’m a visual learner and prefer having presentation slides. Phillips didn’t use slides but rather her own handwritten notes that she then proceeded to go completely off. Her lectures were quite all over the place. 

She also didn’t use the test bank and her MC was very tricky. Admittedly, the textbook is very interesting and can be found online. I did not go to class and ended up with a B+.

I'm taking personality, developmental psych, Stats I, & Motivation all in the fall semester.. is that ok? I thought it was normal to take all psych courses in 2nd year (I'm a psych major) but I read somewhere that I shouldn't take all of those courses??? Do you know if it's ok to take all of those courses in one semester? Is it because it's psychology courses, it will be too much to remember? thanks!! :)

I personally took Personality (Philips), Motivation (Marchese) and Stats (full course, Green) all in one semester, plus two other courses. I managed all right and had plenty of free time. 

This all comes down to your individual ability to study and time manage. Without knowing you personally nobody can really give you an advice whether to take these courses in one semester. I’d think your best bet is going to class for a few weeks and see how the courseload works for you.

Would you guys recommend taking personality and abnormal psych in the same semester? Or would that be too much?
