Thoughts on divination and counseling:
So I had a thought today about Counseling and Tarot Reading. For those of you who pay an extraordinary amount of attention, you may have pieced together that I am a psych major and currently working on my Masters in Counseling. The connections between Counseling and Divination are many, and each time I find one I can’t help but be a little more gleeful that I have found a profession that reflects my personal life and beliefs so fully.
Today I had a thought about the privilege of mental health care. It’s an unfortunate truth that mental health care- counselors, psychiatrists, medication etc.- costs a great deal. The demand is high and the competent suppliers are dangerously low… it means that even for those with access to the means for mental health care, there are still barriers in finding an effective professional to help. Most of us are overbooked, overworked, and impeded by bureaucratic nonsense. I’d like to think we are slowly working to change this, but for now this is the climate in which we operate.
For those who cannot afford or access counselors, many seek counsel in diviners and other metaphysical practitioners. This is why it is so important that we are competent in our services, and honest about areas in which someone else may be more effective in helping than ourselves. We can not all be experts on everything. Instead of trying, and risking failure that further hurts our clients, it is important we are building networks of other competent practitioners to which we can refer when someone comes looking for a specific service.
Above that, the concept of unconditional positive regard and nonmalfeasance (a fancy word that essentially means “do no harm”) is imperative when working with others. If it’s not something you specialize in, refer to someone who does rather than trying to make it work… or worse, trying to make your speciality fit their need. If it is not something you agree with, refer also! There is no need to shame and turn away people seeking help. Something as simple as “this is not an area I am comfortable working in but here is someone who might help you: [insert link or name plug].” is effective and reflects positively on you, as well!
For me, I am elated by the fact that I will soon be helping people both professionally as a counselor, and personally as a diviner. Those who choose me gain the benefit of a counselor without footing the bill. My tradeoff is that I am allowed to be a bit more human with my divination clients… forming friendships and presenting opinions and thoughts a little more freely than in my professional setting. I appreciate those who I have had contact with in my divination so far, and am excited for all those I will reach in the future. I also cannot wait to continue building networks with other diviners who specialize in areas where I am not competent. This is why I promote my fellow diviners. This is why I am open and honest about my abilities and areas in which I am not as competent. I believe it benefits everyone.
Just hearing Kate McKinnon say the words “prefrontal cortex” made my gay, nerdy heart skip a beat ❤❤❤

(10/17) This one is about me.
As most of you don’t know me personally, I decided to give a little start up to my flow of creativity by working through this tag. So here’s 5 things about me to bring in my second month of intentional blogging:
1. I’m 23, born at the peak of Gen Z, out in my own apartment with my boyfriend, and in a poly relationship with him and my girlfriend, who doesn’t stay far from us right now. We have a really awesome friend group who’s supportive of our relationship and our goals ✨
2. I am a psychology major with an art minor, and starting my 3rd year of college most likely in the winter or fall of 2021. Whenever I can get a decent set of hybrid science classes that don’t require my Mandatory lab class to be done online. Thanks COVID. That being said, once this Associate’s degree is accomplished, I intend to continue my college career at CCS in the pursuit of the Art Therapy program that’s there 🖼
3. I am a typology nerd. I’ve come to accept this; I binged the Personality Hacker Podcast on Spotify one summer while doing a work study and I have been branching out and learning about different tools and models for learning about people ever since with a more modern and sophisticated technology. I’ve made all of my close friends take the test multiple times on different websites to test them and the site’s credibility 🧠
4. I am also an astrology nerd. I started my study of Astrology outside of just the sun signs around 2015 and haven’t looked back from it since then, but studied my chart and report intensively this year during the summer. After a while, the basic sun sign stereotypes got to be too much, so I had to learn more. AstroFinesse on YouTube got me into really learning how the signs planets and houses really work together~ ♉️
5. And finally, all in all, I find excitement in the arts and sciences of many things! I draw pictures once in a while, I’ve gotten more frequent into the habit of cooking for myself and have been enjoying it! That being said, I’m very fascinated by the study of holistic health and healing the body through natural means. No, that doesn’t make me an Anti-Vax, that just means I’d rather take care of myself and let the doctors come in twice a year to tell me if I’m doing a good job at it.
If you stuck around to read this, remember you are loved! Take a deep breath; everything is going to be okay :)

"Patron saint of all who measure hours in 50 minute increments or less, pray for us in our discontents that we may suppress and sublimate them into something useful or, at least, quirky." Psychology nerd and witchy me both needed this badly.... so it came home. ♡
