Hello! Welcome to this lil tournament I'm putting together, despite also running two others right now. Why am I like this.

Anyways!!! I'm schizospec. Sadly, I don't know a lot of characters from media who are also on the schizospectrum or have psychosis. So, I figured, why not make a tournament for it?

Guidelines:

No ableism will be tolerated, nor will any other kind of bigotry.

You do NOT have to be psychotic to interact with this tournament/blog. Everyone is welcome! Honestly, I'd be really happy if lots of different people got to have a good time and learn here. Anyone can submit a character!

No anti-propaganda, bullying, harassment, etc. This is for fun.

All submissions must be sent through the ask box to be considered. This tournament will have 32 participants, tops.

NO NSFW IN THE IMAGES SENT. Light blood is allowed but please no full-on gore. A good example is YTTD or Danganronpa; there's blood, but nothing too explicit.

Headcanons are allowed! Please indicate whether the character actually fits the DSM-5 criteria or if it's your headcanon.

Characters with any condition that would cause psychosis are welcome, as well as schizospec characters without psychosis.

You can submit multiple characters in SEPERATE asks. One character per ask. Please do not spam the same character over and over.

No ocs, I'm sorry. I'm sure they're wonderful :)

In regards to images, I will accept fanart ONLY if the artist has given explicit permission, the artist's name is submitted with the art, and if official art isn't submitted in other submissions.

Now, you may be asking, what should I include in my submission? I would appreciate if your submission went something like this:

Curious about what the criteria is? Here's a link to the DSM-5 criteria for schizophrenia, which is a good place to start. I may post links to other collections, idk!!! But this is what we'll be using mostly. If it's difficult to understand or read, I can make a separate post explaining the official criteria. However, if you're schizospec or deal with psychosis and have your own experience to add to it, please feel free to say that!

"This guy is definitely neurodivergent in some way and I choose to believe he's schizo. Hear me out. Hear me out okay. Even removing the supernatural setting, Ichiro has so many qualities that I relate to as a schizospec person myself. Being unable to fit in with his peers (humans), preferring non-humans, having the "wrong" reactions, having a ton of trouble understanding others- and then you bring back the supernatural setting. Characters who can see ghosts are just. Soooo coded to me."

"He fits so many little boxes. Vivia has interests that other characters find odd (his fascination with death), behaviors that are found odd (Sleeping in uncomfortable spots like fireplaces and under pianos), his speech is much slower than the others and he doesn't talk very much unless he's very passionate about what he's saying, he's super isolated and has a hard time making and keeping friends. He doesn't really approach anybody to make connections with them, but when they approach him? He seems super happy. It's hard to tell because he doesn't emote a lot, at most little smiles or deadpan stares, but he's definitely happy when people reach out to him and talk about books. He has also seen ghosts since he was a kid I think, and that fucked up his life a lot. Metaphor!!!! I also think he'd love the book No Longer Human, which is a popular favorite for people on the schizospectrum, I've found"

"He is canonically described as developing what would be called psychosis in human terms, specifically schizophrenia. He was given orders that conflicted with his very being and was unable to accommodate both, and developed paranoid symptoms that were directed against those monitoring his performance back on Earth. He started imagining a fault in the antenna unit and attempted to break the radio link with mission control."

Diagnosis: Brief Psychotic Disorder (headcanon)

Propaganda:

"From the link you gave, Brief Psychotic Disorder. In the movie, she's affected by an entity that causes hallucinations and feeds on trauma, and the curse of this entity is passed through traumatizing another person (usually with the cursed one killing themselves in front of another). I chose Brief Psychotic Disorder because the entity ends possessing the person and making them kill themselves after, like, a week, so she doesn't reach the one month threshold of the other diagnosis. Even with the whole "demonic entity that feeds on trauma" schtick, this movie has a really good and realistic representation of mental illness, which is surprising for a horror movie. It shows specially the struggle of people ignoring what she thinks and believes because of her situation and trying to help her in the way they think it's best."
