"Detox" teas are everywhere—along with dubious claims.
We can, however, confidently point out that:
research indicates that drinking tea is a healthy habit, especially when it's consumed without additives (such as sweeteners)
some teas and herbals may help with digestion & nausea
we firmly stand behind the purity, quality, and flavor of our tea!
(And if any of them help with that hangover, well, consider that a bonus!)
#572 PU-ERH TUOCHA (black classic)
From China's Yunnan Province, this unique tea is also known as the "hangover" tea, perhaps particularly fitting for January 1! According to traditional Chinese medicine, pu-erh helps cleanse the body, assists in digestion, and mitigates a hangover. But whether it does or doesn't do any of that, pu-erh is a delicious tea!
PREPARATION: 1 piece (about 5 g) per 16 oz filtered, boiling water; brew 3–5 minutes
INGREDIENTS: Microbially fermented tea from China’s Yunnan Province
LEAF: Compressed black nest-like cake
INFUSION: Dark rich color, with an ever-so-slight hue of red
AROMA: Sweet leather with an earthy undertone
LIQUOR: Much like its aroma, and surprisingly smooth
SUGGESTION: Used as a hangover cure; is perfect for after the party!
#1387 GINGER ROOIBOS (naturally caffeine free)
Native to China, ginger has long been used medicinally to help with digestion, calm nausea, and fight viruses, making this ideal for those of us who want every tool at our disposal with flu and cold season in full swing—or for those of us who partied a bit too much yesterday!
Even better, the sharp ginger is blended with creamy rooibos, which is low in tannins, high in antioxidants, and naturally caffeine free. In Japan, rooibos is called "Long Life Tea" due to its health benefits.
PREPARATION: 3 g tea (1 heaping tsp) per 8 oz filtered, boiling water; brew 5–10 minutes
INGREDIENTS: Rooibos and ginger pieces
LEAF: Classic twiglike rooibos slivers generously sprinkled with ginger pieces
INFUSION: Beautiful brick red
AROMA: Ginger, and a slight sweet earthiness from the rooibos
LIQUOR: Slightly sweet, nutty base brightened by strong, flavorful ginger
SUGGESTION: Good after a large, filling meal. Also great iced.
#1298 PITTA (naturally caffeine-free Ayurvedic herbal)
This tea counterbalances the Pitta dosha (energy) of action and passion in the Ayurvedic system of medicine, which focuses on health and living well. Pitta both cools and soothes.
The cooling effect is due to the mint. When menthol, an essential oil, binds to receptors on sensory neurons, calcium ions move into the cells, sending a "cool" message to the brain.
Mint also helps to sooth indigestion and nausea, which is one of the reasons it's been used medicinally since antiquity.
PREPARATION: 3 g tea (1 heaping tsp) per 8 oz filtered, boiling water; brew 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS: Lemon grass, mint, raspberry leaves, cardamom, licorice, mallow petals, and rose petals
LEAF: Green herb leaves and pale yellow-green lemon grass, sprinkled with pink and purple petals
INFUSION: Mid-dark, golden yellow brown
AROMA: Cooling, bright peppermint with a light body and slight lemony undertone
LIQUOR: Soothing and relaxing hot; bright and refreshing iced
SUGGESTION: Perfect to rejuvenate but without the stimulation of caffeine
