i thought the ache would rot out of me

but i guess some ghosts don’t go quietly.

i write like i used to text him:

half-asleep, too honest, bleeding on purpose.

my hands are colder now.

maybe that’s growth. maybe it’s grief.

either way, i’m still here.

Run With The Trees

Run with the trees they say,

You’ll be safe

But you’ll eventually pay,

You will say okay

And run with the trees

Looking like a waif,

Run until you’re far away

From the tears.

So, my child, run with the trees

You will be safe

Look up to see

Above the trees,

Owls hooting in the night

And until morning light,

Run with the trees.

Feel,

Feel the rocks embedding in your heel

Feel the wind whipping at your face,

Run with the trees

Like it’s a race.
