Sorry for the somewhat poor photo, as there was construction on next to this pub and it was a bit hard to get a clear shot, but it's time to talk about the Green Man! 🌿🔮🌿 The Green Man is a traditional design element (particularly in the UK) with an unknown origin, and can be found anywhere from old churches to pub signs such as this one! 🌿 In modern times, the Green Man is associated with Pan, Cernunnos, the Horned God, and other male nature deities, particularly to do with forests or the woods. 🔮 It may be connected to the Woodwose (Wild Man), who is depicted in Medieval European mythological art-- But this is a questionable origin, as the Woodwose more resembles a Satyr, Faun, or Centaur than a man of leaves and vines. 🌿 However, that may be where the Pan connection comes from; Combining myths was common as people moved around, shared and blended stories, and culture started to evolve with time, so it could certainly be so! 🔮 #spiritual #pubsign #greenman #pan #mythology #europeanhistory #witch #witchcraft #spiritualism #magic #magick #afternoon #photo #wildman #woodwose #witchesofinstagram #occult #paganism #history #pub #nature #sign #magick #cernunnos #hornedgod
