Forward, forward. Back, back. . Years ago, @feneuco impressed upon me the importance of transitions within the gait. She calls it, "forward, forward, back, back" and you think of riding a few strides forward and a few strides in half steps (or a bigger half halt/slower tempo for the younger horses) but really in all gaits. This has been my main approach to playing with the half steps with #sirwilliam to help develop a piaffe. It not only helps with the horse's obedience to the aids but for William it can do wonders for his desire to carry himself (which is usually low 🙄). . This clip is from a very playful #puffyhorse in our work session yesterday. I love when he feels like this because it truly adds a sense of fun and partnership to our rides. I love my #dressagetrainer @cindythaxton! #sirwilliam and I worked two days on our collected worked and #qualityofgait to improve his #selfcarriage and how to apply my new strength into an effective seat. . The first two videos are when our dots connected, #puffyhorse rocked back and we bounced off the ground together. It felt amazing and best of all I felt my #gymgains working in the saddle! . This was our first attempts at learning the #onetempis That lovely skipping look you might see on TV is wicked hard for a human body to coordinate let alone the horse underneath you trying to guess just what the #christmas you're talking about! . Just like in the gym, #dressagetraining isn't great all the time! Some days suck more than others and some don't suck at all. My #beloved #puffyhorse gave me a delightful ride yesterday at the #goodhorsemanfoundation #dressageshow in #conyersga we have struggled at this "in between place all summer. #inbetween a survivable #intermediate1 test and a #ridable one. He was obedient, prompt and relaxed and honestly I couldn't have been happier. Yes, he was sluggish and his poll dropped as the test went on but my #sirwilliam was a happy #fei horse and we won our class with a 63%! . That being said, I packed it up and called it a close to the #2018 #usef and #usdf season. To me there was no point in making #thepuff do it again when #saturday he proved he could. Thank you, #will for such a lovely ride. Enjoy your well deserved break with your #babygiant brother this week. .
