My 2018 entry for the pumpkin contest at work is almost complete. It’s my first time entering it with a fake pumpkin.
When I realized the light-up eyeballs were too small to use for his eyes, I just glued them all to the inside of the lid. Didn’t even remove the twist-tie. 😆
All I want to add now is a speech bubble of him saying “I’m pumpkin Riiiiick!” I haven’t figured out just yet what to use. Maybe cardboard and more paint....
Bonus: my previous entries and how they fared:
2012 — “Sweet Tooth” won two out of the four categories: Most Creative and Best Overall. I felt this sign was necessary after I saw several people touching it. I was afraid they would accidentally remove some of the candy. It took me 25 hours to decorate it. The teeth are all salt except the silver one, hence the title. This is probably the most expensive one, due to all the candy I had to buy. And the pumpkin is big and heavy (not scooped out).
2013 — “Revenge” won the Scariest category. Two small pumpkins, molding clay, wire hangers, bone candies, a wig form (I painted the face), a wig I cut apart and glued individual tracks in place, a plastic brain, two plastic scoops, roasted pumpkin seeds and plastic vampire teeth, and lots of red and orange acrylic.
2014 — “Graveyard Scene”. It was one of only two entries that year, so we each received a candy bar and called it a day. I guess it was good I’d put so little effort into this one....
2015-2016 — no contest was held because the event organizers thought all interest had been lost. I begged for it each year, and they finally brought it back in 2017.
2017 — “Mad Science”. The four old categories had been replaced by just two: carved or decorated. Mine won best for Decorated. I’d been planning this one for two years, so I had a gazillion random lab and machine parts left over by the time I was done; I’m still keeping the stuff for future projects. Originally, it was just going to be a Frankenstein’s monster theme, but Black Butler crept into my head, and it ended up having some Bizarre Doll vibes, like the fact the “blood transfusion” it’s getting is labeled “AB”....
This year, “Pumpkin Rick” will be in the carved category, despite the fact it’s mostly painted. Fingers crossed 🤞
