So I've kinda got something stuck in my craw and putting it out here on tumblr is, I feel, the safest way to possibly get it off my chest without a tsunami of idiocy rebutting me. Stop romanticising heteronormative monogamy Like. I get that it seems cool to intensely and passionately love someone so much that you feel like they are your other half and that they are all you need. But that idea has become the standard, the unit by which love is supposed to be measured. And it's not JUST a cishet thing, it's present even within the lgbt+ community. And don't misinterpret me. I'm for marriage. I'm for monogamy. But I'm against monogamy and marriage being seen as the only "real" or "legitimate" way to participate in love, to the point of polygamy lacking any legitimate representation in any format other than documentaries made by niche production companies. I won't lie and say that I'm polygamous. I'm in a monogamous relationship. But I'm of the opinion that teaching people that they can only ever have "true" love with one person is fucking toxic. At the end of the day I guess the message I want to drive home here is that you should stop fucking shaming people for the way they want to live. Let them have the choice to do it if they should want to without being made to fear that they will become some kind of social pariah or that they're just going through a phase. Stop telling people that their experience isn't the "right" way to live.
