Pup 5c?
I decided to go with this meme since you didn’t say which one, and also because I could pretend it was during the Qunari uprising and they were in Merrill’s house, watching warriors wade into the Alienage.
Their hair looks more blond on my computer instead of ginger, for some reason. But basically if Pup’s crying and smiling, there’s going to be knives and magic in someone’s future and something’s about to go down.
Sorry it took forever, i haven’t drawn a person with a face in about a million years
So how did Pup and Dorian's relationship start, if you don't mind my asking? I'm really interested in this au!
oh man i just remembered this ask was here i’m so sorry.
Well, part of me wants to kinda shrug and go “when the flirting started” but that wouldn’t be strictly accurate, because, due to Pup keeping up their continual gender-enigma shroud and the sort of inherited from Isabella and Varric to toss out friendly flirts/commentary, it was a sort of a guessing game. Especially on Dorian’s part.Because flirting did happen between them, and Dorian had the habit of calling Pup a man, which Pup corrected and said was inaccurate but if it made him feel better they would allow him to think it but would like him to use their pronouns. It wasn’t really till they were closer that they had a more in depth conversation about it. As far as i remember talking with @bubonickitten we’d decided that really, so long as Pup wasn’t a woman Dorian was happy, but would have to explain things, but Pup was used to having to explain a range of things to people at Anders’s clinic and as a healer, so it worked out.
I’m clearing this up mostly because I imagine it would have made Pup anxious after Dorian’s personal quest, dealing with his father. They’d been flirtatious and Dorian had probably been receptive, but because they also have a very intense insecurity about their body and how people respond to them, they’d feel weird not having a talk with their partner. They have rather bad dysphoria about their chest development, so they kinda fidgeted about moving the relationship forward due to that as well.
As to the start start though, their relationship was primarily made out of going back and forth about books. A lot. You could not physically get them in one area and not have them going back and forth about magic, history [admittedly Hamin/Pup’s knowledge was limited to what Hawke could buy for them and Merrill/Clan Lavellan could teach them] and trying to one up one another in sparring matches.
Or you could always start when they first met-- Dorian was travelling with Alexius through Kirkwall for some artifact or another before tragedy hit Alexius’s family, and Dorian being Dorian, had wandered to Lowtown to look at the Bazaar. Pup, who was used to sitting with Fenris and thus viewing anything Tevinter as Evil Incarnate, decided Dorian was their mark for the day. So, commence Dorian having his purse cut and Pup running for their short elven lives. Dorian noticed and gave chase into Darktown, which you really don’t want to do to the Healer’s kid. Problem, necromancer. There’s a lot of dead people in Darktown, bones buried in the muck. So, it turned into a brawl in the sewer and ended with Pup ripping off a silverite bracer, 2 sovereign, and fucking up his hair before flying out the slat windows cut in the cliff and diving into the harbor. Because they did that sort of stupid shit when they got good at the barrier spell.Dorian spent a good 5 minutes processing that a mage robbed him and jumped off a cliff into a harbor, and went on with life.Several years later, Pup was wearing that bracer in the tavern one night and Dorian was just drunk enough to recognize it enough to recount the story of a similar bracer. Pup choked on the alcohol they were drinking for the benefit of the other people there.“THAT WAS YOU?”“What?”“You were the necromancer in--” Hamin choked again and banged a fist on the table again, Sera landed a good few thwaps between their shoulder blades while pulling a face at magic talk. “You sodding shit, i was scrubbing sludge off my hair and pulling lamprey off my ass for a week!”“Maker’s ass, Hamin that was-- You couldn’t have been that short--”
Basically Pup didn’t steal Dorian’s heart, they stole his bracer and went from there
um yes you hecking can anon!! here are some little chub chiak doodles hehe note: chiak pup loves playing with her nantendo chew toy
So i’m finally remembering to post the Second Noble Doggy Order mock ups that i made in Heroforge!
Top row: Comptess Lacette de Launcet, Act 2 when they meet, then Act 2.5-3 while exploring and helping the Mage Underground with Pup, then serving as a Historian and loremaster for the Inquisition.
Second Row: Lord Dario Idoni, Act 2 when they first meet and begins his transition, Act 2.5-3 while he’s financing efforts to evacuate mages from Kirkwall/convince Nobles into financing city repairs. Retains a similar look in Inquisition while serving as an agent to Ophelia in Antiva and sending intrigue to Leiliana.
Third Row: Lady Ophelia of Hunter Fell, Act 2 when they first meet her at her estate, Act 2.5/3 while she was adventuring with the Order and building up her web of contacts and personal strength. During Inquisition she’s taken over Hunter Fell and made her city into a haven for mages during the war, while her brothers made a rather ill advised bid for conquering Occupied Kirkwall. Her ties to the bloodlines of Nevarra though several rapid marriages has her firmly rooted in place, and she takes a rather morbid joy in mounting Venatori skulls around her home. Duke Tythus Pentaghast was a cousin, and she took his ability to be influenced as weakness, even as he was convinced to make her his heir through cunning and a fondness for her similarity to himself.
Row Four: Comtesse Regina d’Serault, Act 2 when they had met and went adventuring because Regina is vigorously against staying at home in her estate, and late Act 3-Inquisition while running around harassing Templars, principally becoming a bandit to Chantry forces moving around, and generally making herself a living terror to literally anything Chantry and Templar related. Shows up at Skyhold in picked up armor stolen from nobles and well off people who were preaching death to mages and their loved ones because of loyalties, followed by a rag tag band of apostates.
I love these misfits.
So I realized I hadn’t used heroforge to make Pup and felt that was a grievous oversight, so here they are!
The top three are from various points in Kirkwall, wearing a coat and clothes Isabella had gifted them. Yes, they are going to throw that banana at someone. Yes, it is going to go about as you expect. The far right pic is them returning from one of the more profitable excursions of the Second Noble Doggy Order. They bind a lot more loosely or just wear the bodice they bind wth so as to not end up hurting themselves while running around cave crawling. They’re also trying to be a good example to their friend Dario, who’s just started binding and they don’t want to give him the idea that binding up tight and heavy exercise go together. The bottom row is them when they were refereed to either as Halani’u or Hamin Garas in clan Lavellan, serving as their healer and secondary first-- in the event of incident. The last image with the orb is well, the conclave.

Ah, i found it.
Dario Idoni, not the lowest on the rung of inheritance but not the highest in a family of means and many siblings. Dario, a man who is shamed for being who he is because of his faith’s view of genders and noble marriage arrangements, and who has thus no desire to associate with nobility beyond what is necessary. And everything is necessary, as his siblings dally and ignore business and the Chantry. Dario Idoni, who goes to Chantry service each week and kneels before the flames, passing his hands over and through the flames in devotion. Praying he will never be called to raise a hand to his fellow man, because he hates that part of his faith. Dario, who loves beyond his being. Who learns about the terrible things being done under his nose, under the pay of his family and others and uses his power for good. Who is terrified to find how much his family benefits from elves slaving away, mages beaten into work for no pay. Dario who uses power to help, no matter how afraid.
“Gun Song”, The Lumineers.
Not a totally perfect fit, but it fits. @bubonickitten, thoughts?
Lady Lacette de Launcet is a fun character because she’s easily the most intelligent person-- in terms of law, theological debate, and history-- in Thedas in her age bracket, but as far as her parents are concerned, she isn’t a really valid heir because she was too close to her brother Emile and hid away from the others, unlike Fifi and Babette. Heir in terms of nobility meaning “can be married off” really, and unlike her siblings she has very little interest in interaction with suiters her family has sent her way. Mostly she instantly latches onto a single detail of their very clipped polite conversation and then it’s 5 hours of feverish lecturing about a subject tangentially related to it, and a tour of the private library to pull out diagrams and books to show drawings. It’s driven people away. Lacy is wonderfully ok with this, lonely as it may be, because it means she doesn’t have to deal with people who have no real interest in her or her interests. The people tied up in the Noble Doggy Order tend to love her talking and what she knows, because she looks into everything. Everything. So they’re all very dear to her, and they never hurt her books.
She’s very soft, very gentle, and startles easily, but tries to adventure with everyone-- she got her family to buy her a magically protected journal case so she could record field notes on the Wounded coast. She learned you only need to talk to people so long to establish a working relationship, outside the group and keep them working with you. How to use her family’s contacts to help people. How to use what she knew to help people. Her previously useless hours of studying old maps of Kirkwall now helping shuttle mages through passages that hadn’t been known to the viscount for hundreds of years.
The fact she hardly ever made strong facial expressions playing in their favor when someone came to call, demanding to know if their family had something to do with the Underground.
Lacy is so good.
