he froze halfway through drinking his coffee.
"could you pass me my phone, husband?"
the room went suspiciously quiet.
then the biggest grin you'd ever seen spread across his face.
he abandoned the coffee entirely, wrapped both arms around your waist, and buried his face in your shoulder.
"i'm completely serious."
"...you weren't serious five minutes ago."
"that was before you called me husband."
the wine glass nearly slipped out of his hand.
you looked up from the couch.
his ears turned bright red almost instantly.
he looked away to hide the smile tugging at his lips.
"my husband knows the answer."
ranpo immediately looked up from his snacks.
he smiled so brightly it almost hurt to look at.
"we're literally dating."
he happily walked over before taking your hand.
"guess that means you'll have to marry me eventually."
his entire body stopped moving.
his cheeks slowly turned pink.
he looked away so quickly you almost missed it.
"...i... would not object."
"husband, have you seen my notebook?"
he immediately lowered the one he was reading.
"...we are not legally married."
"therefore the title is factually incorrect."
"...that is... acceptable."
his face remained perfectly serious.
his ears, however, were bright red.
he paused in the middle of turning a page.
"...an interesting choice of words."
he studied your face for a long moment.
"you're observing my reaction."
"i don't dislike the title."
"not if it belongs to you."
before you could blink, he'd grabbed both your hands.
"i haven't even prepared my speech!"
he leaned closer with the biggest grin imaginable.
"...you're talking to me?"
his face slowly became impossibly red.
"...i wouldn't mind someday."
he looked so embarrassed after admitting it that he immediately hid his face in his hands.
a tiny smile appeared on his lips.
he tilted his head toward you.
"...it suits you rather well."
he clearly enjoyed how flustered you became instead.
he looked up immediately.
"were you speaking to me?"
he said it so casually that it took your brain several seconds to process.
your face grew warm before his did.
he almost walked directly into the doorframe.
"...did you just call me husband?"
he rubbed the back of his neck with an awkward laugh.
he walked over until he was standing right in front of you.
"keep calling me that..."
"...and i might start looking at engagement rings way sooner than i planned."
