Fun fact about me: I love Louisiana, even though I've never been there and maybe also never will. And I am so envious of its birds! I want common loons in Germany, too!
A House finch, looks onward, curiously.
Update: This is a Purple finch! I try to keep things accurate here. My apologies.
I had a surprise visitor to the back garden: a male purple finch! I know that some people may find it difficult to tell these from house finches which are extremely common but this is a species I see only rarely. They don't come into town very often. Welcome, friend!

Maybe I should have played the lotto today... There were at least four Purple Finches here! I think this video is nice also because you can see how different they can look and how much they really differ from House Finches. Here you can see the forked tail pretty good, this is something House Finches do not have, for example.
