Purple Finch
I've only seen a handful of purple finches, with the similar-looking house finch (introduced) seen much more often in my experience. So I was happy my wife noticed this male at our feeder.
By the time I got the big lens out on onto the body, it was gone. For laughs, I left the camera set up—and lucky for me, it came back.
The difference between the purple and the house, for me anyway, is the breast: clear on the former, striped on the latter.
Last image: the male goldfinches are molting into their brightest plumage, which summer must be coming along soon.
