So, with minecraft’s 1.13 update breaking a lot of the puzzle and elevator mechanics I was using, i took a break to think and research the changes to Minecraft and see how to go about making the island project 1.13 compatible.
As it stands, right now there’s a 90 percent complete 1.12 version of the game in the world. Updating it to 1.13 is going to be a pain in some ways, but useful in others as water elevators and bubble streams are a thing that can replace some previous mechanics. Waterlogged blocks have some interesting possibilities for integration into certain areas, as do the new blocks and corals.
I’ve decided to complete the unfinished parts of the 1.12 version world and release it as a time-capsule build only useable in that version of minecraft. Once it’s released, I’ll begin work on an update to 1.13, but I’ll likely wait until after the 1.14 release at the beginning of the year so that any new changes don’t break the game map again so soon.
I had originally hoped to have the build completed and available for play in time for Myst’s 25th anniversary, but due to time constraints and an illness just wasn’t able to finish it in time.
After nearly a full year of work on it though, it’s not being abandoned. I’m going to finish the Myst Into Minecraft project, the first game will be complete and playable as an adventure puzzle map, I’m just not certain of completion date at this point.
