Prompt: Heart (#pw9)
A lot can be done with a heart.
Prompt: Roses (#pw alt9)
Flower language has long associated roses with love - and not just the romantic kind. Here is a link to a condensed list of flower meanings for you to work with. And if you want to go a less sentimental route, just remember, roses have thorns.

Id under cut!
for the second semester of geometry class,
i had a student teacher who used they/them pronouns
and the mx. honorific.
//
the first time i saw their name tag,
with "mx" proudly displayed,
i did a double take
and then hurried back to my seat
smiling inside, because
i was a closeted bisexual
sitting through geometry class in a county that always votes red,
and it was nice to know
there were at least two queer people
in geometry class.
an offering from one protector to another
Out of all the houses she owned scattered throughout the world, Harmony had to admit this one was her favorite. If Jayy asked why, she would say it was the view, though she wouldn’t be surprised if they probably knew the real reason was the enormous library that spanned the entire west wing, carefully curated over the centuries.
Harmony also knew that, if she was in Ellie’s shoes, she would be looking for answers wherever she could find them. Therefore, when Ellie disappeared a few hours after they arrived, Harmony left Jayy to their own devices to search the library.
Despite the library’s size, it didn’t take long to find Ellie in a pile of books, muttering furiously to herself.
Harmony sighed, leaning against a bookshelf. “I hate to break it to you,” she said, “but you’re not going to find any more answers in those books than what we’ve told you.”
Ellie started at Harmony’s voice, looking up almost guiltily. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to snoop around—”
“You’re fine,” Harmony said, taking a few steps closer and sinking to the ground nearby. “After all, it’s not every day I get to share this library with somebody who appreciates it.”
Ellie bit her lip for a moment, looking around the library. “And there’s nothing of use in these books?”
“Nothing I haven’t already told you,” Harmony said.
“Then what now?” Ellie demanded. “I’m not content to sit back and just—just let things happen to me without trying to find a reason why. Not like you and Jayy.”
Harmony snorted. “Believe me El, I’ve been looking for answers my whole life. And Jayy…”
“Is just a flirty playboy?” Ellie finished dryly.
“Jayy is Jayy,” Harmony said succinctly.
“So you’re saying he doesn’t care why we’re like this.”
“They.”
Ellie blinked in confusion.
“Sorry, automatic response.” Harmony gave her a rueful grin. “They’re nonbinary. And while they say they don’t give a fuck about being misgendered, I do give a fuck. At least when it comes to people we’re going to be around for a while. Which includes you now.”
“Oh.”
“And yes, they do care,” Harmony answered Ellie’s statement. “They just leave the research to me for the most part, since I enjoy it and they don’t.”
“Yeah, cause you’re a fuckin nerd.”
“Spying isn’t nice Jayy,” Harmony called over her shoulder.
“Not spying. Coming to find you guys.” Jayy appeared around a bookshelf and hopped up on a nearby desk. “I’m hungry and want takeout. Opinions?”
“We have access to a kitchen,” Harmony said dryly.
“Yeah, and I can’t cook, and you’re not much better,” Jayy replied. “Plus there’s no food in the house anyways. I’m thinking Chinese.”
Harmony groaned. “I knew I was forgetting something.”
“So, Chinese,” Jayy said in response. “Any objections?”
“You buying?” Harmony asked.
“Out of the goodness of my heart this time.” Jayy smirked at Harmony.
“Sweet.” Harmony turned to Ellie. “El?”
Ellie blinked at the sudden shift of attention. “Uh, sure, that sounds fine. I’ll just have whatever you guys are having.”
“Alright.” Jayy rubbed their hands together with a grin Harmony didn’t trust for a second. “Have fun being nerds, I’m gonna go order food.”
Harmony rolled her eyes as Jayy sauntered away, then turned to Ellie. “Should we clean up before dinner then, or do you want to keep reading?”
Ellie sighed heavily. “No use, if there’s nothing else here.”
“We’ll find something eventually,” Harmony promised. “We have to.”
Ellie just gave her a wan smile in response and closed the book in her lap.
