The Voices

We all already know that Pyke hears voices in his head, yeah? Whether those are the voices of drowned sailors or the voices of nonhuman aquatic entities is up for debate, but I wanted to talk about three clashing voices in particular that dominate his mind the most (DISCLAIMER: in my portrayal):

Voice A is feminine, a bit childish, fun-loving and all for immediate gratification. She laughs and moans a lot, tells Pyke to do things for the sake of Serotonin™, and hardly has any impulse control. She’s kinda perverted and depraved, too, and she won’t shy away from trying to convince Pyke to fuck the corpse of the person he just brutally murdered.

Voice B is masculine, stern, and absolutely despises Voice A. He’s the calculating type that is all work and no play and the moment a name is crossed off Pyke’s list he’s going to send Pyke hunting for the next person without a moment’s rest. Constantly feeds Pyke’s paranoia by telling him to trust no one and that even the kindest gesture has an ulterior motive behind it.

Voice C is also masculine, but sounds younger than Voice B. This voice is frantic and fearful, like a chihuahua on coke. Everything is a threat and Pyke is never doing things fast enough in his opinion. Constantly wailing and is often the voice that pushes through when Pyke feels like shit (AKA triggered) despite usually being drowned out by the other two on any other day.

Pyke & Sleep

In The Ruined King: A League of Legends Story it was stated numerous times by Pyke himself that he doesn't sleep and his explanation for this was that the Deep just never shuts the fuck up, basically. Now, sure, one could very reasonably assume that Pyke doesn't sleep because he is no longer human but rather something else, something that doesn't require sleep in order to survive. But I had a different theory. Here it is:

Pyke doesn't sleep because the voices indeed don't let him but in this scenario he does in fact need sleep, so he is perpetually sleep deprived.

Pyke will only ever allow himself to sleep when he's completely alone and well-hidden because he doesn't feel safe falling asleep near other people.

Pyke hallucinates and experiences microsleeps on a regular basis due to being so sleep deprived.

He also collapses from exhaustion when it gets bad enough.

Part of why he refuses to sleep is because he experiences vivid nightmares, twisted and amplified by the Deep.

Another reason why Pyke feels so unhinged is because the voices are capable of manipulating him better when his brain's a mush.

Bottom line is that Pyke's fucking exhausted. :")

🖌️ – Do they have any hobbies?

With dubiously canon information gifted to us by Wild Rift Twitter we can kinda assume that Pyke is at least vaguely into travelling, music, bullet journaling, fishing, and maybe even gardening. While I am not entirely sure if that post was meant as a joke or not, I personally choose to gobble that shit up and accept it as canon for my Pyke because I feel like it fleshes him out as a character a bit more than what is actually considered 100% canon, and that is him being entirely focused on killing the people on his never-ending list and nothing else.

I can also totally see him unironically being a marine biology nerd and also a collector of all kinds of stuff. I mean come on, the man wears some creature's jaws as a trophy on his fucking shoulders.

Speaking Of Human!Pyke....

I kinda get the feeling that he was much nicer when he was alive. Maybe not a ray of fucking sunshine but friendly and approachable enough for him to get along with most people, even if he was and still is ultimately a loner who would much rather keep to himself than to socialize. But even then I can still see him being able to fit into and befriend most monster hunting crews he sailed with, especially when he was widely respected as an extremely skilled harpooner. Maybe some gigs were more about the paycheck and less about the voyage but I am almost 100% certain that Pyke had a solid laugh or even a drink with some of the people he met over the years.

With that said, Pyke is traumatized and his brain is being scrambled by aquatic poltergeists, so it’s no surprise to me that he turned into a rather mean and hostile person... From being able to sail with just about anyone for the right amount of coin to barely tolerating people long enough to have a conversation with them. Trauma often turns one into a bitter, angry cynic.

A Long-Term Relationship With Pyke Would Entail:

“Take better care of yourself or else”

Has absolutely no patience for your self-deprecating bullshit

You’re either with him or against him, choose wisely

Will keep you at arm’s length most of the time but will also occasionally become the clingiest motherfucker on planet Earth

Will tell you that his work always comes first but if he sets it aside for a while just to spend time with you, consider yourself fucking blessed

Needs tons of reassurance that you won’t just use him and leave him once you’ve had your fill

He is far from abusive but he can still be pretty mean

He is NOT a man of words – keep a close eye on his actions and behavior if you really want to figure out his intentions

It will take him a lot of time to warm up to you as he is trust issues on legs

He will take things EXTREMELY slow so you gotta have the patience of a Saint

You’ll have to take the lead when it comes to intimacy and sex because he is both traumatized and super inexperienced even at his age

Speaking of sex, he is asexual, so it’s pretty low on his priority list unless he knows you need it often

Will do anything in his power to keep you safe but won’t shy away from scolding you for getting in trouble to begin with

Is confused about many things when it comes to boundaries and consent, you’ll have to teach him some stuff from scratch

Appreciates small affectionate gestures over grandiose declarations of love

Generally prefers to keep his intimate relationship/s private

Monogamous and does not share

A little on the jealous/possessive side, too

He’s a rough man who likes rough play but still melts into a puddle when you treat him softly

Break his trust once and you’re going straight on his list with no chance to redeem yourself
