The lights of the arena are bright and overbearing. Shane's ears are ringing. He struggles to push himself up to his feet and he can hear Ilya's voice somewhere behind him. Above him, a paramedic gently rests his hand on his shoulder, says something about not hurting himself further. More voices, dead silence from the crowd. He groans and squeezes his eyes shut, feeling bile rise in the back of his throat. Did he get hit? He must've, but before he can ponder what exactly happened, he's being lifted onto a stretcher, a neck brace firmly wrapped around him.
"W-wait, Roz-?" he chokes out, trying to sit up again, but he either doesn't have the strength or he simply can't. The world spins around him. He doesn't know why he hasn't puked yet because he wants to so badly. "Fuck, I-Ilya, someone--can someone tell him I'm fine?" He mumbles it so quietly that it can hardly be heard. Shane doesn't know that Ilya was next to him the whole time on the ice, as out of it as he was.
Maybe he'll remember when he comes to in the hospital later, but for now, he loses consciousness again and won't regain it until the next day.
