The one to reject you harshly, stating how he sees you as nothing more than a fellow student - an acquaintance at most. You’re mere companions, how could he ever feel for you more? Yes, he’s grateful for your assistance with the various overblots rampaging one after another within the school, but there’s nothing deeper than that to it. 

But when he turns away from you, oh how his heart aches and his tongue burns from the lies that had spilled from his lips. He has always been told that he has a venomous tongue, and now his mouth foams with swallowed poison. 

Oh, how he does feel for you. The love he feels runs deep in his bones, has crawled through the thick layers of his skin and nestled itself into the corner of his heart and soul, forever watching over him, forever a part of him. That part of him yearns for your touch, for your embrace, for your time. But he knows that it cannot be his. He is far too unworthy, far too tainted to be able to fully wrap himself in the holy embrace of your affection. 

He has already gorged himself on the affection of your gaze alone for far too long - he cannot do so for any longer. He will never truly be full, but the sin of gluttony is not one that he has been granted permission to embrace. So, instead, he will simply allow the threads of your relationship to unravel themselves, until he and your heart are no longer intertwined. (And yet, why can’t he help but yearn for a chance to hold onto this selfishness - to grab the threads, and twist them around his neck until he can no longer breathe; until the air in his lungs is replaced with you?)

JAMIL.

The one to never outright admit to knowing, but you can still tell. You can tell by the way he begins to pull away - the way he no longer finds reasons to do the little things with you. He no longer barges into Ramshackle Dorm when he’s upset with Riddle, he no longer throws eraser residue at the side of your face to grab your attention during class. Eventually, he’s just never there - a mere wisp of shadows every time you turn to look at him. But, honestly, what did you even expect? He’s notorious for his ghosting abilities, so why would you ever stop to think that you would be treated any different? Yet, you still can’t help but yearn to gaze upon him once more.

But he never truly meant to pull away from you. He’s a runner - he runs from anything that he can avoid; including his feelings. How could he ever accept the idea of falling in love with anyone - let alone one of his best friends? He doesn’t understand his feelings, nor does he want to. So, he runs, and runs, and runs, until he’s no longer around you; until he no longer feels that disgusting tingling sensation that ran through his body whenever you were near. But now, as he lies on his bed, surrounded only by the sound of Deuce obnoxiously snoring from the other side of their dorm room, he can’t help but let his mind run wild. Amongst his rapid thoughts - one stands out most; “Why does his skin feel so wrong without the tingling he once despised?”

ACE.

The one to subtly let you down. Not because he doesn’t love you, no - because he doesn’t believe that he is good enough for you. Yes, you know of his past, and you’ve been a first hand witness to the immense efforts that he’s put into improving, but he can’t help but think you’d be better off with another. Or, at least better off until he’s finally become a man that he's proud of - until he becomes a man worthy of your affection. (If only he could have realised that he was already worthy of all the love the world could ever offer.) Nights spent on calls with his mother always end with him rambling about you, you, you. She always interrogates him in regards to why the two of you aren’t dating already, and he has no answer besides the fact that both of you are still too busy with studies (and overblots - but he doesn’t dare to tell his mother about that. He couldn’t bear to make her worry for him any more than she already does.) These calls are always followed by hours spent staring at his ceiling, fantacising about what life with you could be like with you, what it would be like to hold you in his arms as lovers, and - if he allows himself to get too deep into his fantasies - what it would be like to take you on a date, to hold your hand, and to kiss you. With the encouragement from his mother, he decides that he will one day ask you to be his - but only once he’s ready. He just selfishly hopes that you don’t move on before he has the chance to. 

DEUCE.

The one to not even realise his feelings until it’s too late. He can’t even begin to comprehend the notion of you holding feelings for him - or he for you - until you’ve pulled away from him completely; until you’re entirely gone. Those weeks, months that you spent subtly leaving him - letting him touch you less, ending conversations quicker, always talking about how you need to go study with Grimm - none of that was noticed until you were no longer there, until the only indication that you were ever there was the lingering scent of you. Now all he’s left with is the fantasies that run throughout his mind every night; fantasies of what could have been, of what he was too blinded by other extravagant events to see, of what he’s never going to get back. On most nights, he isn’t even plagued by dreams - instead, it’s questions. Questions that haunt him for weeks on end. Questions that all end up surrounding one topic; you. “What could I have done? How could I have not noticed sooner? Why did it all go wrong? Why is this effecting me so much?” It’s on one of those nights that he realises why, and his heart breaks in response; he loves you. [You never seem the realise the effect that your words have on him. How he hangs onto every word that spills from your lips, drinking in every one of your thoughts and opinions as if you’re the only water source for miles in the blazing heat of the desert sun. He tries to feign nonchalance, tries to pretend like you don’t effect him as much as you truly do, but when he finds himself standing in one of the Scalding Sands various markets, subconsciously considering the pattern between the few accessories of his that you’ve complimented him on before, the truth can no longer be denied.]

He meanders from stall to stall, examining the crowds for a familiar head of white hair whilst occasionally glancing at the various goods being sold. The might of the bustling crowds threatens to knock the boy over (and, by extension, all of Kalim’s shopping bags that are full of various knick knacks for his siblings and dorm members), but years of experience have made him agile enough to avoid any catastrophes. Speaking of Kalim - he has completely disappeared out of sight. Jamil swears, one moment of looking away from the excitable boy and he runs off to the next shiny thing that’s caught his eye.

He finally reaches a rare lull in the crowd and jumps at the opportunity to stand in an area that doesn’t involve being shoulder-to-shoulder with practically every stranger in the country. The moment of peace allows a sigh to escape his lips. His sharp gaze drags itself over the crowd, and he finds himself dreading going back into the sea of ongoers. Seven, he wants to leave. Quite frankly, he’s at his wits end. The heavy bags are digging into his arms, the heat of the crowd is making him sweat, and this is the third time that Kalim’s run off. He sighs once more, irritation radiating from every pore of his body. 

He briefly closes his eyes to compose himself, resigning to the idea of having to enter that beast of a crowd once more. He stalks around, scrutinising the masses for the clearest point of entry, when a sudden glimmer of metal in the corner of his eye draws his attention. He turns towards it, suddenly finding himself in front of a large stall selling various accessories and articles of clothing. Upon glancing at the signage and the familiar stall owner (an older woman adorned in layers of jewellery - all golden, unlike the younger silver-clad lady - her daughter, if Jamil remembers correctly - that accompanies her), Jamil quickly realises that this is the stall Najma bought his most recently gifted accessories from (one of which - despite being different from his usual metal-only style - you gushed about, stating that the vibrance of the ruby encased within it complimented his feathered hair tie well. Not that your opinion holds that much significance to him, of course. It was just his brain correlating the situations, that’s all.) Despite briefly debating on whether or not he should just walk off and go begrudgingly ensure that Kalim is safe (he ends up deciding that the few royal guards tailing the two earlier should be competent enough to locate and watch over the heir for a few more minutes), he finds himself walking closer to the stall, eyes honing in on the carefully laid-out jewellery.

Instinctively, his search begins with the designs most suited to his usual style (a style that you’ve also frequently complimented, his mind can’t help but remind him) of plain gold hairpieces and earrings. His search is unfruitful. Nothing appeals to him enough that he would purchase it. Dissatisfied, he softly sighs and shifts his gaze slightly to the left - where the flashier accessories lay. He barely holds back a visible cringe at the sight of a few of them, unable to not think about how much their shine would draw unwanted attention from others (as well as how they reminded him of the style of a certain sunshine-infested heir). 

Just as he’s about to turn away from the stall and continue his search for Kalim, he glances across the smorgasbord of flashy jewellery one final time. He stops suddenly, gaze frozen. There before him is a golden hair piece designed to resemble a recently rained-on spider web, constructed from golden chains of varied lengths and sparsely adorned with tear-drops of rubies. His first instinct is to simply continue on with his plan of reentering the crowd and finding Kalim. The hairpiece isn’t his style and he knows he wouldn’t ever want to risk wearing it often - the chains are far too fragile for daily use and he’d constantly worry about it breaking; it’s impractical. He knows that he shouldn’t care enough to buy it, but he can’t help the presence of a single thought that resounds throughout his mind amidst of his inner monologue; it’s so similar to the hairpiece you gushed over him wearing. You’d probably react the same way to seeing him in this one too.

Before he can even begin to process his actions, he finds himself gently grabbing ahold of the fragile accessory with one hand and haphazardly reaching into his pocket to locate his wallet with the other (a tough thing to achieve considering the tens of Kalim's shopping bags still lining his arms), flagging down the old woman in the process.

Try as he might, he can’t help the flush that runs up his neck at the knowing look painting the old woman’s face, her eyes staring with the subtlety of the sun at the stark difference between the accessories he’s currently adorning and the one that’s now bagged in his hand.

As he thanks the woman (who responds with nothing more than another knowing look followed by a quiet laugh at his blatant embarrassment) and walks off into the crowd, he can’t help the way that his fingers itch to tug at his hood’s drawstrings. Did he seriously just buy an expensive piece of jewellery on impulse simply because of your positive reaction to the last one? He inwardly groans, his desire to return back home with Kalim now increased tenfold. 

[Upon reuniting with Kalim, he’s bombarded with exclamations of excitement at all the fun things that the boy saw. Jamil halfheartedly acknowledges Kalim before hurriedly directing the boy out of the crowds and back towards the palace. As Kalim continues to ramble on, Jamil absentmindedly tunes him out. He glances down at the bag containing his bejewelled hairpiece once more, unable to fight the slight upwards tug of his lips that follows. He can admit that yes, his actions are incredibly embarrassing, but is it really so selfish of him to desire more of your attention and praise?]

The one to take your affections for granted, to not realise the weight of his dismissive actions until the opportunity to become one with you has passed, and he is left to stew in his ever-growing lonesome. For Jade Leech is many things; the moon to Floyd’s sun, an ever-so efficient debt collector, an unexpectedly mischievous companion, and - above all else - an unpredictable being. But an idiot? He is definitely not. If anything, many of his fellow students may even be bold enough to proclaim that he’s one of the smartest people they’ve had the (dis)pleasure of meeting (sans the housewardens, of course). Thus, it’s easy to deduce that he isn’t oblivious to your affections. If anything, they’re clear as day. How could he not notice when your actions are so blatant when analysed under the microscope of his sharp glare? The way your behaviour changes when he interjects your conversations with others, the way your eyes seem to brighten whenever your gazes meet, the way your nervous habits only present themselves once you and he are alone. 

He is painfully aware and - quite frankly - amused. He finds it all so fascinating - he finds you fascinating. He has grown used to receiving only people’s intimidation, people’s avoidance - any emotion under the sun that isn’t affection. So when you arrive, starry-eyed whenever he so much as enters the room, he can’t help but want to play into your fantasies, to feed into the lies of reciprocated affection that you’ve likely conjured up in that utterly human brain of yours. So he becomes more affectionate towards you; spinning golden threads of lies with his words, feigning tenderness, placing a hand on your lower back on nights when Monstro Lounge is busier than usual - all with the ultimate goal of forcing those interesting reactions out of you. Will you fluster more if he leans in close to talk directly into your ear on nights spent accompanying you back to Ramshackle dorm, witnessed only by the two of you and the stars? Or will it be when he chivalrously opens the door of your shared classrooms for you? It’s all a fun little experiment to him - a way to pass the monotonous days of working, threatening, and studying. (Although, on quiet nights spent attending to the gardens, walking amongst his vast collection of various fungi and flora alike, he found himself almost pitying you. He couldn't help but wonder how painful it must feel to play the role of you in this situation. To unknowingly be pulled along like a puppet on strings, solely for the entertainment of another. He knew it would hurt you. Some sadistic part of him wanted it to hurt, wanted it to burn at the corners of your eyes, to set your heart ablaze with such a ferocious heat that it caused the life-sustaining organ to shrivel up entirely, leaving you unable to feel such a way again. He wanted to see the devastation that wrecks your body upon realising how naive you were, how gullible you were. How you were nothing but a fool to believe that he had room in his heart for you. Another part of him - a miniscule one - ached at the thought.)

The one thing he had never seemed to realise, too caught up in his own tangled web of hypotheses and variables, was that you know him better than he thinks you do. He forgets that to you, your interactions are more than just a little experiment. That to you he is a piece of art, meticulously and specifically designed by heavenly clay, whose sole purpose was to be carefully dissected and torn apart by your gentle hands, just so you could truly understand what makes him, him. He’s so distracted by his own love-struck perceptions of you that he seems to forget just who you are; the Prefect who contained various overblots and survived living in an unknown world through sheer wits and intelligence alone. He forgets that you’re smart enough to figure him out, and that you’re smart enough to leave upon realising the toxic intentions behind his every meticulous action. 

He’s smart enough to understand the implications behind your sudden distance, but he can’t bring himself to comprehend why it now feels like the halls are too empty, the stars are too dim, and the gardens, too silent.

The one to reject your confession in fear of what the future may hold. 

A young man with a sense of maturity that exceeds his age by decades, bound by his perceptions of reality and fiction; Jack is definitively not one for unjustified or unfruitful behaviour. He works hard for what he achieves, and he’s always considering every potential consequence of his actions. This is why he rejects the confession that you had so bravely expressed to him on the one-year anniversary of your first meeting. Not because he doesn’t reciprocate your feelings, but because he knows what college relationships are like. He knows how fickle they can be, how unsuccessful they often are, how much damage they can do. Most importantly, he knows the fragility of the puppy love contained and glorified in such relationships. Jack comes from a species of animal that mates for life; a species that’s only given a single chance at love. And so, as much as he truly does love you and craves the opportunity to spend the rest of your lives together, he simply cannot risk it. He cannot bring himself to take that chance, to risk entering a relationship with you in which your love turns out to be mere childish puppy love - a love that will inevitably fade out once enough time passes, once times get tough. The cons of such a risky move far outweigh the pros. He only has one chance at true happiness with a partner, and he fears - no, is petrified by - the potential of experiencing a future in which he has to live the rest of his life lonesome, aching for a love far-gone, a love that was only special - that only truly meant something - to him. 

(However, if both of your feelings persist throughout your schooling years, continuing to remain strong far after your graduation, there may come a day where he can finally allow himself to take that risk, to finally be able hold you in his arms like lovers do.)

The one to resign himself to loving you from afar, only daring to utter his affections when stuck in a drowsy daze, surrounded by the company of the woodland fauna.

Anyone burdened with the meticulous and arduous duties of being a bodyguard to one of the most important people in all the lands would not often be granted the pleasure of leisure, let alone the pleasure of a slow-burn love. For a knight’s duty is to serve, not to steal. This is a mentality that has been shoved down Silver's throat since he was but a child, forcing the boy to resign himself to the idea of never truly being able to experience the reciprocated love of someone. But, of course, one can never simply suppress the mystic sensation that is love. Love is the sort of phenomenon to unwillingly smack you in the face, leaving you breathless and confused, flustered at every glimpse and mention of the benevolent beholder of your heart. Love is uncontrollable, love is unyielding. Love forces itself into one’s heart, soul, and mind, inconsiderate of the desires of the body it inhabits. No matter how much one may deny it, the heart never tells lies. Silver, too, is not immune to such a thing. So when he begins to feel the tight clenching of his chest, the sudden increased pumping of his heart whenever you are near, the overwhelming desire to spend “just one more minute” basking in your presence, he knows that he loves you. He is unafraid to admit that. Such an acknowledgment only proves his innate human-ness, does it not? He is unashamed of his humanity. 

Alas, accompanying his acknowledgement of love is the acknowledgement of his fate. Despite his lethargy, he has a duty to uphold - one that he takes very seriously. Seven forbid he ever let himself get distracted by something as fickle as romance; Sebek would never let him hear the end of it, and his father would be disappointed at all those years of intensive training amounting to nothing, wasted on the indulgence of a relationship that may not last. So instead he spends his days as usual, going through the motions of life. Study, train, sleep, repeat; a never-ending cycle. Only in those few moments of solitude, lying on the forest floor, halfway between conscious and unconsciousness, does he let himself softly babble on about you to the animals that surround him. They are the only ones granted the opportunity to bear witness to the picturesque scene of his soft, sleepy smiles, the affection-laced ramblings of his slurred voice, and the yellowing light of a fading sun shining down on him through the crevices of the tree’s above.

He does not mind that you cannot truly be together. He can simply be at peace, content with the knowledge that his feelings are his alone, and that nothing can ever take that away from him.

i could also see his body being incredibly frail and weak though, too! like the transformations take so much out of him, and his physique is SO strong during those few transformed hours, that his body cannot properly recover from it, making it almost impossible to build up much muscle mass,,,, OOO that would create SUCH an interesting view of his lycanthropy! instead of remus just seeing it as something monstrous and shameful, he’d also associate it with a parasite of some kind! leeching off and affecting his health on a daily basis,, never allowing him a moment of respite to try and forget he isn’t fully human unlike the rest of his friends and peers,, that would make his lycanthropy a MUCH more severe issue than it is already [although it IS still incredibly serious! I dont mean to sound like I'm downplaying it], as it can slowly kill him even when not in transformation!,,,,HMMM there are too many options to choose from!

from a character-depth and angst-lover perspective, i prefer the second option, but from a Remus Lover ™ perspective, the first is probably better^^ poor guy deserves to be somewhat happier :( 

besides that one section of his hands that’s always freezing, i feel like rest of his body runs pretty warm! that’s likely attributed to his lycanthropy, though [wolves are incredibly warm animals! especially if you consider their natural habitats and many layers of fur!]
