Biggest focus of this year
Was trying to get myself singing again.
Thanksgiving of 2024, my throat started on a coughing fit when trying to chat with family. Odd, but not too worrisome.
But for the next year I struggled with a throat that, once again, couldn’t sing without pain.
Got imaging done, saw a GI doc (it mostly seemed to be an issue with my esophagus, but everything in my throat was being set off because of it), changed some of my eating habits. For most of the year I couldn’t seem to sing painlessly long enough to rehearse a song completely, much less perform one of them. My voice instructor was helping me the whole way, trying to figure out what bad habits (due to 38 years of singing without any voice training) I might have that were contributing to it. My mental health was in the shitter for pretty much all of 2025. It got really bad at some points.
But finally, near the end of the year, I was rehearsing multiple songs to the point of being able to perform them. I only really had time to record one, but that feels like such a goal post, istg.
It’s not as clean a performance as I would usually have wanted from myself. But given the year I had, it just makes me happy and proud that I could do it at all.
The song I recorded for the year’s recital is “Vanishing”, from Pulp Musicals. (The third episode, The Ghosts of Antikythera, specifically.)
I found the karaoke track thanks to AnnaBanana on YouTube. (There’s more Pulp Musicals karaoke tracks, among other musicals, on that channel btw!)
Hopefully next recital I might get to record “Rose and the Stars”. Would be rather fitting, I think. Starting 2026 with ‘’I will shine again’’.
