bit of a weird one but wars will eat pretty much Anything, actually. you'd assume since he's a city boy and just seems kinda fancy and well-to-do in general that he'd like the ,,,Richer side of the menu. and while he Has had some of the most expensive meals u can find during dinners w the queen and other Big Figures, he's also had some of the cheapest and grossest foods imaginable. he's been in the army for years, and the food there isn't amazing i've heard GVEAGIYUV if it's edible, he's willing to eat it. he surprises quite a few of the chain w that one when he's perfectly willing to eat bugs without so much as a grimace at the idea
when wars is reading his silly little books with his silly little glasses on he has a habit of like . humming to react to whatever happened in the book. a character says smth sassy and he goes "mh :|" and it's SO funny for the rest of the chain to hear. he seems to be completely engrossed whenever he reads and doesn't know he's doin that at All and they adore him so bad
wars has a habit of trying to juggle things. yes he's a goon no he doesn't succeed ever
caaaaaaan't recall if i've mentioned this but i like the idea of my wars bein hard of hearing :)! his right ear is mostly burnt off and there's definitely some damage in there. he can only hear a little bit from his right—speech is mostly muffled and quiet—so he relies a lot on his left to hear and lip reading. he Does know a good bit of sign !
wars doesn't actually flirt w people and when other people flirt w Him he is almost Always incredibly uncomfortable. hot take
he's veerrryyyy clingy when he's sleepy. he's affectionate by default but he gets so touchy-feely when he's tired and it's the cutest shit actually . literal grabby hands at people. leanin on the chain and yawning obnoxiously in their ears. he's usually an early riser so he typically goes to bed early too; when the chain stays up to tell stories he's usually one of the first to drift off and ends up w his head in legend's lap. pillow,,,,,,,,,bestie

i actually think the Only way to get wars to shut up at the dinner table is if ur serving apple pie. if u hand him a slice of apple pie he will be Transfixed by it and will spend every ounce of his energy devouring that goddamn slice and savoring every bite. if u give him a slice of apple pie he'll die for you.
wars is also very clingy when sick . if legend or Somebody isn't hugging him or next to him at all times he gets very pitiful and miserable. human equivalent of what a sad, wet dog looks like . luckily tho legend and the others care abt him very much and they let him fall asleep on them so he can rest comfortably ,,,family :)

i think what i like about him most is his Goofiness. he just ? does really silly things solely to get a laugh out of people, even if it makes him look stupid or ridiculous in the process. he Lives to make legend laugh especially, and he's basically always tryin to get a smile out of him someway or another
he's dramatic and cranks his reactions up to a 9 purely to spark some smiles. legend gently kicks him in the shins for making a dumb joke and it doesn't hurt him in any way, but he still yelps and holds his foot and hops around like it's been run over by a boulder. twi playfully shoves him back when they're joking around and wars makes a show of leaning away until his back is on the ground as if the push had really been that strong. wind is sitting in front of him, and wars' drink is on a table behind the kid, so he takes the opportunity to lean forward to Squish wind underneath him, going oh so sorry kid so sorry i'm in ur way it'll just be a second so sorry oughh this sucks doesn't it while he's literally already got his hand around his drink. he's just staying there to listen to wind giggle. he's just a silly guy
he's also just,,, so fucking gentle dude. he's so Gentle w everybody. when he was young he learned all that bullshit abt never showing weakness, never crying blah blah blah Gross . wars thinks that's gross. he was raised on that for most of his childhood, but first, he learned to be gentle and caring from his mom :) she taught him that and he's always stuck to it
he's always so ready to help ? to Fix? he is 100% constantly looking to make sure everybody is okay around him. he lives off of hugs, loves them to death, and is prolly the most cuddly of the chain in my eyes. is always offering them, gets sad when he doesn't get one within like a day VGIEAYVGA and he's always right there to comfort the others; always holding them, always lookin out for them. rly emotionally open i guess ? always happy to listen and happy to comfort. gentle big bro vibes
^ due to all that, sometimes the chain genuinely almost,, forgets he's a captain. he can look scary on the outside if he's fully geared up, but the chain has long-since been desensitized to how dangerous they all look and they see Family there instead of Hero Figure. wars is so gentle and kind and loving and doting that sometimes their memory of what that scarf around his neck rly means fades a bit
that's not to say they don't think he's a good captain—quite the opposite, they think he's an incredible one—but it's just,,, wild to see him hugging people and ruffling hair and being Silly one moment, and then he's a fucking cold, unstoppable force the next. eyes kind and fond at first, but when a battle starts they r Crazed and focused and he's slitting enemies with such perfect swipes that they are cut clean through. it makes them all realize just how gentle he rly is w them ? there is just Something abt that . smth that gets me
^ expanding on him looking out for them, he's really good at spotting when somebody needs a break ? he's . rly good at People. he knows how to read them, how to approach them, what to say, when to say it. and after a while of getting to know the chain, he knows how to look for signs Individually for the different boys. he knows his family very well; if something is wrong, he will likely be able to tell. true to his captain instincts, he keeps them all in his sight, looks after his family closely. a good leader,, good brother :)
he likes to gently remind them to take care of themselves. he's definitely one of those people that mother hen you a bit; he likes to check on everybody, ask if they've drank anything, if they've eaten yet, are they okay, what's on their mind, stuff like that. he needs to know everybody's okay,,, he worries otherwise :(
^ he loves to preach about self-care, and i think one of his biggest flaws w that is that he doesn't follow his own advice at all. he's a huge fucking hypocrite. he knows the consequences of lack of self-care, knows how important it is, and he's even said so most of his life—it's one of the biggest reasons he's such a revered leader in his era, bc he's just,, The Best in terms of tending to his troops and paying attention to mental limits as well as physical. he just,,,, seems to think he himself is exempt from that
he thinks he can just keep working. he thinks he's immune to every type of exhaustion and he will keep going until he collapses. he's got a nasty habit of throwing himself away to keep others standing, and the most concerning part of that is that if somebody points it out or asks if he's pacing himself, he seems to be absolutely clueless to the damage he's doing to his mind and body
. i'm gonna go on a mini-tangent inside this bigger tangent if you don't mind <3: a lot of people tend to characterize him as this over-confident asshole who thinks he's amazing—and that's a perfectly acceptable characterization btw, the freedom of interpretation is a wonderful thing—but i personally see him very differently. i think that characterization tends to stem from that mission in his game, where he gets overconfident after receiving the master sword ?
and to me, that was . a very small fraction of that game. like so small. it was One mission, and then they never touched on it again. and when i think abt that mission, i always remember a line from the start of the game; i don't quite remember when it was said, but at some point the narrator says, "Link did not believe himself to be worthy," in response to him being a Hero ? or smth of that manner. and i think abt that line all the goddamn time.
wars did not have a lot of confidence in himself. he's gotten much better over the years, especially when it comes to combat and leading, but he still doesn't have the confidence he maybe should. when he got the master sword, he felt Power in his hands that he previously had not owned. he'd felt useless before, just a Fucking Guy who suddenly got promoted to Captain and Hero Status, fumbling around and hoping for the best. and then he suddenly had power in his hands. i don't blame him for feeling unstoppable and taking advantage of that—he'd wanted to help, and he finally had a way to do so effectively. he just went too far in an attempt to make things better, and became a little blind to his limits
so he is Not confident. my wars isn't, at least. he has faith in his own combat and leadership skills, but that's pretty much where the confidence ends. he doesn't think of himself as this unstoppable, perfect Heroic symbol. he thinks of himself as Guy Who's Pretty Good At Swinging Swords and Yelling.
and that's ? part of why he thinks he's exempt from all that self-care stuff. he either forgets and gets too caught up in everybody else's problems to care for himself, or he,, genuinely thinks that throwing himself away to keep others up is Okay . like he Deserves that.
i won't get super into it here cuz it's part of his dumb backstory created by my dumb brain, but a lot of that has to do w how he was treated in the army, and his dumbass dad <3 worked him to the ground and pretty much, overtime, made him think that if he wasn't being useful, he didn't have worth. and he's experienced people leaving him bc he "stopped being useful."
so yeah he has abandonment issues . but the chain slowly and surely helps him through those insecurities :] tries to make sure he knows he doesn't have to work himself to death for them to love him,, doesn't completely fix things obviously, and he still struggles w it, but it helps A Lot
another thing w him preaching self-care and then not caring for himself,, he tends to think like that with trauma as well. continuously tells the others that it's okay to Not be okay and that whatever trauma they're dealing w is valid and it's okay to be vulnerable, but then he ,,, goes against all of that for himself.
tries not to "burden" the others w his shit, kinda keeps it locked up, and he tends to think badly abt himself when he's having a tough time. just,, rly beats himself up for Having Trauma, especially when it gets in the way of his productivity and he ends up being "less useful" bc of it. and sometimes he doesn't seem to realize that the chain seeing him like that hurts them a lot, and they're more than willing to console him and try to make it easier on him.
^ over time they Also help him w that,, they help each other a lot. for years, he's tried to repeat the same stuff he tells other people to Himself—stuff like self-care, vulnerability being natural and Okay—but he's never had the self-worth to rly put much stock into it. the chain showing him love even when he was "being useless?" that helped him get over that hurdle
and his constant Care and reminders to take care of themselves r eventually gently reflected back at him—"have you eaten today buddy?" "yeah. what about you?"—just to get wars in the habit of asking Himself the same questions. they do a lot of little things like that in hopes that eventually it adds up to him healing

idk if u mean Fancie Warriors specifically but just in case u did i'll stick w that, but i will Gladly talk anybody's ear off abt my wars in general . i love him so much. idk much abt Fancie Gatherings (tm) so bare with me and my completely incorrect ass but
first and foremost my wars is Nice and he doesn't turn into a complete dick the moment he's surrounded by the entitled rich people that attend to the parties he usually goes to at the castle. he's nice and he doesn't rly think much abt rank even in general (a luxury only the Hero of Hyrule can afford, honestly), so he shows basic human decency even to the people in the lower ranks that most others would just shove aside
just bc he's Nice to people does not mean he won't take any shit from higher-ups that're tryin to fuck him over. he's been known to occasionally make snide comments to political leaders n such, and once in a while, if they deserve it, to a king. in any other circumstance i think he'd be put on death row for that shit, but he's the Hero of Hyrule and he Knows it. he's very hard to fire, and/or replace, and he Knows it, so he uses that to his advantage sometimes, if it calls for it. kind of abusing his power, but only to say Fuck You to a horrible king once in a while GVEYAIGVA
^ this makes his zelda very reluctant to take him to other countries for . political things /literally no idea. he is a menace.
but wars recognizes that talking back to kings n shit is dangerous, not only for him, but for zelda as well, since she usually has to deal with the aftermath of that. so he saves those moments for when he really, truly believes it'll make a difference, or prove a point
wars also does not drink or eat at parties for fear that the food laid out on the table is poisoned. his paranoia carries to the others if the chain is also attending the party, and he tends to watch them like a hawk if they eat or drink anything while there, looking for signs of it. if he's Really hungry or thirsty, he's usually alright with smth simple from wild's slate to hold him over
if anybody at parties makes rude comments to Any of the chain members, he is immediately backing them up and scaring whoever made the comment so much they simply jerk their heads up and down in a fearful nod. wars is very nice and soft most of the time, and very loving, but when called for it, he is scary.
wars is always armed at parties. usually he's expected to be carrying a sword at least, mostly for show since he's the Hero. but during times he's asked to attend unarmed, he usually hides a dagger on him somewhere, for his own peace of mind. traitors are still out there, lurking
wars also knows that some of the chain is very introverted and can only handle so much for so long before they start getting overwhelmed and tired at parties. when that happens (typically w legend, hyrule, wild, or sometimes sky), he'll excuse himself and then drag whoever is Very Obviously Barely Keeping It Together to a quieter hallway so they can get a moment to breathe :) he gets it. he's an extrovert but even he would sometimes rather be curled up at the inn with a book instead of this GVEIAYGV
and lastly i just think wars is very good at People. he's very good at talking to people and knowing what to say, what to do, what the body language points to, what double meanings are hidden behind small comments or eye movements. he's really good at it, a natural really, and most of the time it's that sense of character on him that makes him aware of a traitor in the room rather than them attacking him first.
oh also wars is very good at hair and make-up but we been knew that

legend Loves to feel a lot of textures and trace patterns. a lot of the chain's arm guards r great for it bc of how intricate the patterns pressed into the leather are and he can be entertained for a while, just sitting there and tracing the divots
legend also loves to play w the hems of his tunics or pick up the end of a belt that's hanging from him and fidget w it
picking at his lips is smth he tries not to do but ends up doin a lot anyway
he also pets his hat a lot :)
wars taps himself a lot, usually on the collarbone, especially if he's a bit overwhelmed and needs to focus
when he was younger he used to flap his hands a lot. and sometimes he ~wiggles~ when he's happy :)!
wind cracks his knuckles. he also sometimes repeats words or phrases when he's bored
time twirls his hair around his fingers sometimes. he also Constantly jiggles his feet around and rolls his ankles when sitting
sky hums often, usually when he's happy :]
hyrule flaps his hands :) also tends to Organize things when he's bored/nervous
twilight tends to click his tongue a lot when he's tryin to focus. tapping his foot/leg bouncing is another big one for him

HMMMMMMMS please forgive the late response my head is made of Hollow Rocks . and also my memory of the happenings of hw is bit fuzzy so sorry for any inconsistencies or incorrect stuff
i personally headcanon that everything during the hyrule warriors dlc/legends parts never happened. meaning he never met toon/wind there; nor mask/time; doesn't know marin, tetra, ravio, etc. this isn't rly anything to do w an actual problem w the dlcs i have, it's just that i generally dislike time travel shenanigans (it is a Miracle i like lu in general actually, now that im thinkin abt it). it makes everything confusing and it's VERY hard not to create paradoxes and paradoxes make me so . sosossoso os [explodes]
basically anything past the shining beacon scenario is Not In My Head and therefore has not been experienced by our dear boy warriors linked universe
it makes it a bit less confusing for me, rly, and it also means that wars didn't let two children (toon, mask) fight in a war . i don't think he'd Ever do that if he could help it (unfortunately wind is not spared from a journey w him later .... even then, wars wishes he could've prevented him from the physical/mental harm lu may have brought on. he may be a damn good hero and very capable, but that doesn't mean wars doesn't regret letting all the trauma seep into him)
other than the many, many (many) scars and burns he gets throughout the war, it obviously deals a great amount of damage to his mind as well. he was fucked up Before the war in a sorta different sense (terrible father, stifling home, forced to dedicate all his time into being smth he didn't want to be, conditioned to overwork himself, fear of abandonment). but the war brings a lot of new stuff:
paranoia is a big one. every time he enters a room his eyes dart to all the exits. he is Never unarmed and always carries at least his dagger w him. sometimes he gets days where the Dread is too much and he's jumpy and easily startled and keeps looking over his shoulder. there's been times where somebody taps him to get his attention and he Whips around and has his dagger to their neck in a second (he always feels terrible abt it afterward and apologizes profusely)
^ that extends to the paranoia he has abt people not actually being who they appear to be. a wizzrobe during his game could shapeshift into other people and be nearly indistinguishable from the real deal. sometimes when his friends/allies have an off day where they don't quite act like themselves, he can't help but be wary of them and watch them closely. he doesn't mean to not have faith in his allies, he just,,,has trouble thinking of anything else
i've mentioned his big fear of fire. in the future, any moment he's ever w the chain and they visit the deku tree he can't look at it without seeing it up in flames. after his final fight w volga and having the memory of a giant dragon pinning him down and shooting fire at him at point blank range, he's likely . never going to get over that fear

in the future Anytime the chain goes near a great fairy wars just . stays near the back. or better yet he simply waits outside/a very very far distance away. he's terrified of them for numerous reasons
i also like to think that most of his men adore him and think he's a damn good captain. and during the war there was a certain lil band of em who would dare stray out of line to simply ask him if he's Okay. it may seem,, rude, to speak out of line and out of turn, but wars was never the type to gripe about little things like that anyway. and he ? rly appreciated the fact that they bothered to ask. especially when they thought they might've gotten in trouble for it
and lastly, when he was younger wars was !!! a bit naive. and while his mother had always taught him that the world was good and there was sm good In It and so many reasons to love it, it might not have had the desired effect on him in the long run. he grew up thinking that everybody was simply . good. and that made it all the more challenging for him to identify whether or not he was being used or played or even abused. he's told that everything is good and he should be good too, and then he's immediately thrust into an environment that is decidedly Not Good, but he's 9 years old and who is he to think his mother wrong ? mom Must be right. This must be good
aaalllll the way up until he's 18, he's sorta convinced that the world would never need this many soldiers to defend their land, bc who in their right mind would kill people just for the sake of power ? it's a very innocent way of thinking, and it isn't until literally his First mission out in the field, right before he's revealed to have the triforce of courage and he's promoted, that he learns that not everybody is good. he's ripped from believing such nice, tame, wonderful things and immediately faced with literally some of the most horrible sights a person could ever witness. sure, his father prepared him for a war, but his mother had prepared him for a world that's much softer than this. and he tended to take his mother's advice much more to heart than his father's

first and most obvious one i can think of is Legend having arthritis!! when it rains his body throbs and aches and he’s usually a bit slower in both travel and battles; maybe he gets injured because he didn’t dodge a swing in time and that’s when the chain discovers it. i know this is in some fics out there, but Legend nearly melts into a pile of pure bliss when Wild takes them to the hot springs in Goron City. no pain!! what is this magic!!!!
hmmmm what do you mean Legend having lichtenburg figures isn’t canon. he’s def got some nerve damage - i like the idea of the scars running down his arms. maybe he can’t feel stuff in his hands sometimes; static grips his fingers and shoots up his wrists and on bad days he can’t feel his sword in his hand. Wars gives him a test to see if he can name his items when they’re placed in his hands with his eyes closed - he can’t.
Legend is absolutely terrified of lightning!! he hates storms because 1) as previously stated, when it rains his whole body goes oof ouchy, and 2) the very sound of thunder nearly stops him in his tracks. on one particularly bad night, when the chain is holed up in a cave while a strong storm passes over, Legend is sitting as far away from the others as he can get and silently trying to reign himself in, thumbing the Green Holy Ring on his finger to remind himself it's there every time he hears lightning. one of them notice - maybe it's Warriors, and maybe even Wild because he recognizes what the eyes darting across the clouds and the hard flinches at the booms really mean. they come to sit next to him, and at first Legend is annoyed but then their shoulder presses against his and the contact somehow grounds him a bit, somehow makes it easier to ignore the storm and focus on the warmth of their skin instead. they don’t comment on his flinches, they don’t tease him for the paranoid posture; they simply sit until the last of the sun rays disappear over the horizon and the storm has dwindled down into a light drizzle and after that? they become Legend’s pillow :)
Legend hoards as a coping mechanism. he's lost so much, dealt with so much, seen so much in such a short period of time while he's still developing, and maybe he found that hoarding simply fills the void. he's had his rings for years - he's never gotten rid of one. he keeps the outfits he wore in the early days even if they don't fit him anymore. he keeps the bows from his first adventures even though their life spans have long since run out. it bothers him that he doesn't have any physical items from his time on koholint - it's like an inch he can never scratch.
i personally hc that Legend has a limp???? no real reason honestly, and i don’t think i’ve written it into any of my fics. it just. sparks joy. plus it gives me freedom to say something traumatic was the cause of the injury and that creates a little something i like to call ✨ opportunity ✨
(this might not make sense but i haven't played ALBW so idk if this is plausible) when Legend uses Ravio's Bracelet, it's like experiencing death without the permanence. his body isn't a physical thing inside that wall anymore - it's a cluster of particles and stardust and colors, and his eyes aren't real things anymore so he can't see. his lungs can't physically take in air - he can't breathe. he can't hear anything except the quiet, energetic hum of the bracelet's energy. it's like being in a void, it's like he doesn't exist anymore. all the bracelet lets him know of the outside world is where the walls bend and twist, like a mystical echolocation. the magic meter that shows up when you use the bracelet isn't so much for when magic runs out, but for when Legend can no longer hold his breath. he hates using it. he hates using it so fucking much
