Coming back to this after seeing e1 of AMC Lestat

You know.... I mocked QOTD (2002) many times over the years (despite some great performances and KILLER soundtrack) simply for the utter butchering of lore and some ridiculous invented plotlines, erasure of Louis and Gabi and the whole pointless forced het Jesse thing..

How ever.. BIG however incoming...

even despite all those flaws.. it still somehow managed to be more faithful to the SPIRIT of the books than that amc show.

and Stuart looked nothing like Lestat and yet somehow still managed to capture the ESSENCE and energy, the core of Lestat better than what ever is that clownish ridiculous caricature AMC show is doing.

it was in his bearing, the way he carried himself, they way he talked, little hints of depth and melancholy and elegance, immortal distance, mixed with brat prince sassiness and arrogance, but all in good measure.

No shade to Sam Reid a super talented actor but what AMC is doing to Lestat is vomit inducing farce! and don't even let me start on Gabi. I'd rather she is just absent somewhere in the jungle and missing like she was in this movie than put her in the show like THAT!

Like I can't believe I'm saying this lmao.

I can NOT believe AMC actually made me have newfound appreciation for QOTD 2002 but I guess the bar is getting lower...

I love all incarnations of IWTV and I think all have their place regardless of canon.

The OG books were a perfect intro for young queer goths in the 70s-80s, being perfect angsty gay drops in a time where queerness was still very underground. Being introduced into the literary world I think was culturally significant and I think it was both a landmark for gay culture, goth culture and feminism (funny given how many female writers at the time looked down on her for writing pulpy vampire lit at a time when women who wrote anything other than high brow aesthete serious literature were seen as wasting their talent.

IWTV the film caused my gay panic and I think it's appearance in the early 90s alongside BTVS and Lost Boys gave us a remarkable new vision of vampirism and gothic media. Without IVTV and LB we wouldn't have twilight or TVD and the sheer appeal of moody gothic semi erotic film was at its highest point here.

Queen of the damned was a fun film fuck you it was FINE and Aaliyah as Akasha was a indicator I think to many black girls who felt they weren't allowed to be gothic or that they couldn't pull it off. The nu metal soundtrack also introduced a generation of moody goth gays to a genre that was already dying and I think.nu metal slight resurgence in recent years was due in part to ppl remembering much of this film. Also Marius is hilarious

AMC IVTV is so openly queer, messy, and dark to the point that many modern gays are kinda taken aback. Many saw Anne rice and her vamps as these moody whiny losers and to see the depth of character and sheer emotion of the books taken to screen I think has led to a reevaluation not only of rice but of vamps in general. And rice fans' unwillingness to allow the "normies" to dominate the fandom with bad Twitter takes and pointless feuds over "who's the hero of the narrative" is a great thing to see.
