I'm kinda torn on the existence of sun's character in general because I feel he's either a possible male love interest for Blake (just cause) or that he's an obligatory character for Michael. Meaning, "Hey, you've been at this company forever, you can finally have a character in the show! Since you're pretty popular, he can be a somewhat relevant character." just my thoughts, though.

I’ll admit straight out that I don’t know enough about RT’s politics to try and guess when story elements might be a result of pandering or accommodating voice actors, but I think it’s pretty clear that Sun is “supposed” to be Blake’s love interest. Whether or not that’s something they’ll follow through with or if he’s just a red herring (and Blake will be one of the LGBTQIA characters we keep being promised) we’ll have to see. 

Honestly, I’m torn on his character too. I really enjoyed him back at Beacon. He provided another faunus perspective, a kindred spirit for Blake (even if they don’t alway see eye-to-eye), he was helpful without being pushy like he is now, and when balanced with Neptune he was in a good position of, “You’re a side character who adds depth to the story without drawing too much attention from the main cast.” Now though… what’s he doing? Blake’s story seems pretty weak so far, but having Sun around makes it feel all the more flimsy to me. 

I also lost a lot of love for Sun once he started following Blake and kept that up even after learning she didn’t want his help and she was going home to her family. I’m really over the “man ignoring a woman’s requests because he supposedly knows better” trope. Let it die already.

Maybe I'm a little overprotective of lil Oscar but I feel like Ozpin may be pushing him too hard, if only by a little bit? Like sure he'll get stronger with more training, but half the time he collapses the moment Ozpin's done controlling him

Oh boy... I have things to say about this. I won’t lay out everything here because I’ll be posting my review later, but basically: yes, yes, yes. I take less issue with him collapsing (something that’s bound to happen in intense training during strenuous times) and more the ease with which he can now take control without overt permission from Oscar, at least that we see. Yes, they’re eventually meant to merge into one person, but this combined with Raven’s cryptic comments this episode make me a little suspicious... 

BUT YEAH I’m gonna stop now ‘cause I gotta work all this out in my head more. I’ll post something late tonight 🙃
