It was cold in the isolated park where their dead drop took place. Etoiles blew on his hands, then ripped open the padded envelope, dumping an old-fashioned cassette into his hand. He held it out, and Phil stuffed it into a cassette player. They both craned their heads over the electronic equipment to hear the results. "Five, twenty-seven, forty-eight, two—" the tape started, as Etoiles feverishly scribbled numbers on a notepad. "—one hundred and twelve," the cassette said, ending with a click, and then there was the hiss of tape. "Alright, shit." Phil flipped through a dog-eared booklet. "Fuckin' jobs in code." He peered at Etoiles' list of numbers, and then at his decoder book. "Okay, we've gotta go to—Edmonston. Rogue Fae, more details there. Shit." He rubbed a hand over his face. "That's gonna be a train." "Do you ever think that it is a little much that they give us jobs this way?" Etoiles stuck his notepad in his pocket and pulled his mittens back on, glancing at Phil with a grin. "What is next, they send us a chess board and we have to win the game to find the quarry we are hunting?" OR: Etoiles and Phil are bounty hunters, and something more.
