Buddhist Monks Walking for Peace

I have cried many healing tears that feel wonderful rolling down my cheeks during these past weeks as I watch the Buddhist monks online in their walk for peace from Texas to Washington, D.C.

As they near their destination, I am awed at their stamina and endurance, walking through winter wind, snow and bitter cold. And I am deeply touched by how people respond emotionally to the monks in their encounters with them.

15 days ago, I started my own walking for peace in solidarity with the monks, here in the mountain town of Patzcuaro in Michoacan where I live. I walk for two hours daily, following their lead in walking for peace. This practice has brought me greater peace than I have ever known in my life, and many wonderful and magical moments.

I wish I knew how to put into words what it feels like to be in a space of utter peace. I just want to say that it is unlike anything I have experienced before in my life, even at my most spiritual moments. I am interested in the quantum field of consciousness, and feel that shifting to our heart center is key to bringing about world peace.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's, and witnessed the peace marches of Martin Luther King, Jr. I remember being grief-stricken when he was killed. His words have continually shaped my life and inspired me. This walking for peace completes a circle for me, bringing hope, joy and a strong sense of history in the making.
