Through my read of PJO and HOO series, I've learned and realized so many things.
Here are my four reasons why I love the series:
Rick really put so much effort in connecting and putting so many greek myth characters into a series of books. At first I thought, it must have been easy to produce such a book because you have this character bank where you can pick and place any one you want. But later on, I come to realize that choosing a character should not be done rashly. And of course not everyone is familiar with greek muth so you have to introduce them the way the reader will be engaged while giving a short glimpse of what the character would do in the book.
I've learned so much about Greek Myth!! Had I read this before tenth grade, I would have topped our English exam. It gives everyone an opportunity to learn greek myth in a very fun way. And this is also when it gets crucial. Should Rick deviate from the character's attributes in the original greek myth? I really love how Rick dealt with it. Not only did he incorporated the character's original attributes, but he also paved a way to give them new meaning that puts them into place in this modern world.
I love how Rick made the book set in the present time. It gets us really into thinking, how would the gods and goddesses act if they live in this modern day? It really touched on important themes that most teenagers can relate to.
I'm amazed (hands down) how Rick made sense of the nasty things god and godesses did. Like??? How could you justify Zeus immorality towards women?? How patriarchy was prominent in ancient ages and how it shaped the world we have today. I like how he handled sensitive topics and made sense out of it.
How about you? What do you love most about the PJO and HOO series? I'd love to know your insights! ฅ'ω'ฅ
