Lowkey want to do a whole twt rewrite, but for now here’s I would have had Barb react to losing the strings.

I started this so long ago, but I got done with the rough sketches and immediately lost interest. I think I got intimidated by the changes I’d have to make to the background. But I brought up the idea to @funktrolls and it kinda revitalized me to lock in and finish it.

Also this is compliant with my Barb born pop au, and I think the angst hits extra hard in that context.

Depsite being accepted and having been with the rock trolls for most of her life, she’s always had lingering insecurity. That she doesn’t belong, that she’ll never be “rock” enough because of where she came from. The world tour is her attempt to prove herself, to do something for her people that will prove once and for all she’s one of them.

Instead, her actions end up destroying their music. She feels the connection snap, and just breaks down. In that moment, all she can see herself as is the pop troll that ruined everything.

Her singing and getting her transformation at the end hits particularly hard for me, because it’s the moment she finally feels completely secure in who she is.

Poppy, kind of representing the past she’s been running from, giving her back her guitar, acknowledging it’s okay, this is where you belong now.

And she plays and sings and there’s no string this time. Just her, her love for her people, and her love for their music. And that’s more than enough.
