For "send me a character", forcing myself to avoid obvious options... how about Tianlang-Jun for SV and/or Lord Rain Master for TGCF

TIANLANG-JUN:

first impression: i distinctly remember velinxi's art killed me the first time i saw it... put it away slut !!! some guy out here (languishing) lounging in a coffin that shen qingqiu threw himself into... so deeply unserious immediately & thus i knew i'd be attached to this freak, especially upon zhuzhi-lang's appearance with him aehaha

impression now: these days i'm surprised i don't think more abt him, especially considering his role as the last one who truly knew (at least the impression of) what the culture of heavenly demons used to be before they died or were driven out... along with him being between two of my other favorites - su xiyan & zhuzhi-lang - and a mirror to yue qingyuan, as well as everything binghe entails... it's really surprising i only really think of him contextually from these four.

as a character i was initially interested in, he experienced something similar for me that svsss lmy did, in that he's not really my type of freak with the rpf situation. sad!!! i think he's an intriguing character though, especially for his affection for humans' hopeful and persevering love juxtaposed with his fascination and love for the one human who didn't seem to fit that mould at a glance, but unlike most cold and callous people, nonetheless chose the "honorable" thing and through this didn't seem to actively seek love/admiration/power - things tianlang-jun had in excess, and which he's witnessed so many seek. i really wonder what his experience with other humans and heavenly demons were prior to her, specifically what his sister's personality would've been. perhaps that entire family is Passionate in these very particular ways... he's fun to explore more general ideas through i think!

favorite moment: when he is told the truth of su xiyan's end and he's so broken down that he is looking at these cultivators that only just tried to kill him, asking "truly...?" i just felt my heart shatter into a million pieces. i love these pieces of the maigu ridge scene...

idea for a story: it would be beautiful if we gave tianlang-jun a way to worm himself into wu chen's heart. my decree. though honestly much of my bias does end up being pre-svsss and i think it'd be very sweet to pursue a story where he is injured by something specifically against the heavenly demons and su xiyan is compelled to help him - the first break in their relationship being this. where although su xiyan and tianlang-jun are keenly aware she could kill him right here (and, with her skills, would be the first of anyone to find a way to nullify zhuzhi-lang's toxin) her first instinct was to help him... i imagine neither of them gave one another their names for a long while into their acquaintance, and i think it would be quite fun if this was the moment where they do open up a bit more to one another :']

unpopular opinion: oh hm, i don't think i really interact w tlj works enough for this... i think su xiyan's death hurt him more than zhuzhi-lang's. while he can file away zhuzhi-lang as a fool, one who was destined to die for all the time wasted at his side - he should've known... su xiyan never fit her role, and defied it until the end. confident and considerate and clever, and by all rights wouldn't be as depreciating as zhuzhi-lang who deferred that right to become nobility. zhuzhi-lang chose his path, tianlang-jun mourns it like he would a written tragedy; su xiyan's and tianlang-jun's intended lives were stolen from them, and it takes all he can to disassociate himself from that 'living' to try to understand what his role now has to be.

because i feel it's underrepresented, how much tianlang-jun feels he "must" act a certain role, and what aspects of that are drawn from fictionalized accounts. that of someone who must take revenge upon the world for all he's suffered... when in reality, he merely sought a simple, loving life. even as an emperor he had never wanted to be one, merely inherited the position either from his younger sister he'd deferred it to, or another predecessor. he is keenly aware of how he comes across and often plays into what is expected of that to best manage another's expectations and his own. he denies himself much interiority, not for lack of it, but for all the trouble it causes when each impact hits the heart.

favorite relationship: [hides a suspiciously-shaped plush of tlj & sxy riding atop zzl behind my back] um.

favorite headcanon: i desperately want mqf to incessantly work to get tianlang-jun's heavenly demon body back for research purposes. if all else fails at least let them harvest the blood...

RAIN MASTER / YUSHI HUANG:

first impression: SO COOL !!!!! i really love seemingly effortlessly powerful characters like her and yue qingyuan (and, though i've not yet finished it, lan wangji), and held such high hopes for her role in mount tonglu

impression now: ...now if only she had more to do :'] it was very interesting getting her backstory, it made me respect her deeply, and i enjoyed how she knowingly leveraged her position to help with everything in what little ways she could. i just wish that we had gotten more of her getting to be an active force, rather than what felt like a background convenience. i still find her a greatly compelling character though... she and shi qingxuan are likely to draw me back time and time again to tgcf i think :]

favorite moment: every moment. aehaha no but seriously, the reveal that her 'steed' (ox) was formed because of her reaching out and connecting w one who was also neglected... it made me emotional TTvTT there's something on the tip of my tongue about the different ways that zhuxin, ruoye, and her ox all provide different support curated for their users, with ruoye as the one who ironically struggled most with finding a way to attune itself to xie lian's wishes, but they each got there for better and worse... i'm just not quite sure how to articulate it. will rest on this!

idea for a story: i really desperately want more shi qingxuan/yushi huang in the world. i think it's very sweet how sqx used to hang out in her territory to 'be merry' & that the rain master, without prompting, sent out her own search party to seek sqx when she hadn't seen her in a while :'] sqx's only two friends: ysh and xl, hahaha... 💔💔💔

unpopular opinion: ...unsure. i don't much care for her situation with pei ming? i feel like she's of the opinion it's so far in the past and would rather it stay there.

favorite relationship: i really enjoy her relationship with everyone honestly. the strife between her family and people, the tension between her and jun wu, xie lian's respect for her pragmatism with her worshippers, shi qingxuan's general positive regard for her. it's all really so fun... i suppose sqx/ysh wins out for the obvious reasons though ehe

favorite headcanon: i'd have to marinate more to fully ponder other headcanons, but i think it would be pleasant to have her weaving when the day's work is done. the hats, coats, even art... something to keep her precise motor control intact and give her lower body a break. the only problem is with her neck, but perhaps the human form of her companion can help provide support there :3

Mingjue just has the gall to look at him and say, straightfaced, 'The truth.' (This kills the man, Xichen is down for the count)

OH SHIT, I LOVE THAT FOR JGY! It's fascinating, several people have been like 'yes he is ambidextrous'--it just seems like such a him trait. Aww, Wen Qing! I love the idea of eager young Wen Ning being very pleased he can be helpful to his jiejie and takes his job very seriously

like everyone saying ok whatever the new ones are just a rehash of the old ones anyway and I honestly wouldn’t care bc I like these characters more and I thought personally that finn’s story was an interesting piece of world building as well as an interesting character arc so besides his growth in tlj I do with they had brought a tiny bit more of his outside of movie lore just a little to make the fight w phasma and the ‘traitor!!!’ guy more contextual also

I photoshop all my screens, I’m sorry! I play on PS4 so I can’t use reshade. This one was mostly a LOT of selective color layers and some channel/curves. I used gradients to help balance the sky and then used a brush for the stars.
