It is always sad to see a fellow vegan behave like other non-vegans and make fun of people for being different/queer. My blog is specifically for animal rights and anti-speciesism so I don't post about anything else or follow anyone who is non-vegan.. so it's very jarring to stumble across transphobia or just general nastiness because most of the blogs I follow tend to be against all forms of oppression. Most of the vegans I know hold similar stances. I expect all this nastiness from non-vegans (and I know that even they can do better because once even we were non-vegans), but not my own community. We are literally here for animal rights and about bridging the gap created by the discrimination against other species.. we have overcome the greatest form of oppression ingrained in us since birth, so how can we fall for any other form of hatred? And did we forget that other animals are queer too? That homosexuality has been observed in animal groups like lions, birds, fishes, giraffes etc and not just humans? So why.. why do we discriminate? Anti-speciesism is the very principle on which veganism is based on and it teaches us SO much about looking at the animals and the world with lens of equality.. let us never discriminate please. And don't forget that vegan gays exist, vegan transgenders exist, vegan bisexuals exist, vegan queers exist and we hurt when someone from our own community makes fun of us. Lots and lots of love to all my fellow queer vegans and the vegans who are our allies and stand with us like a rock and a happy pride to you all.
