on tiktok there’s always some weekly queer discourse and this time the question is whether or not you can be a lesbian if you find fictional male characters attractive.

i’d say this is all up to what you decide to call yourself in navigating your own identity because obviously you can let others negotiate that for you. but in my own experience, characters that most see as male (and in this case animated characters are always in question here) are characters that automatically register as genderless or nonbinary to me.
basically what i’m saying is that i don’t quite limit fictional characters, or fictional men, as just one thing. i think that there can be so many possibilities for what a character can be and i don’t quite care about the canon as much. like, the hariest, manliest character from the least ‘girliest’ show ever could easily become gnc in my mind and wouldn’t effect my own personal preference calling myself a lesbian.
all in all i just think, for myself, that i am a lesbian who has a complex identity and is also attracted to complex identities that other lesbians have in real life. fiction is JUST fiction, and does not bend my real-life sexuality in terms of what i like and look for in people
yeah i don’t think im quite panromantic anymore. every day i come to terms with the fact that im a full fledged lesbian so this means lots of change is underway
