Rouge Gorge is produced by Quebec-based orchard, cider house and distillery, Domaine Lafrance ( @vergerslafrance ). It’s a very dark, almost solid-looking caramel brown colour, with a slight, sweet taste reminiscent of Coca Cola (the original, not the diet or what-have-you). Apples pop on the palate, which shouldn’t be a surprise given it’s a cider-based vermouth. The combination of those flavours, one right after the other, is oddly appealing. It finishes warm with hints of berries and hangs on, lingering for a really long time. I found the end a bit unpleasant – tingled and was a bit sour – but others I tasted with found it nice. Overall, the Rouge Gorge is smooth and sip-able. The Instax Wide 300 is an analogue instant camera that uses Fujifilm instant colour film “Instax WIDE” to create photos similar to a polaroid, but wider. It takes point-and-shoot literally. There aren’t too many features to play with; you’ve got a retractable lens (2 components, 2 elements), advanced optical viewfinder with target spot, motor-driven 2-range switching focus (2.95 feet to 9.84 feet and 9.84 feet to infinity), electronic shutter release, automatic exposure control, automatic electronic flash (that may blind your subjects), and an LCD screen. Other than that, you just find your subject, point, maybe adjust how bright or dark you’d like the image, then click. Wait as it prints and you have a physical photo you can keep or gift as you desire. The Instax Wide 300 is not a digital camera – no memory card and no way to save those instant photos to your computer (unless you want to scan the prints).
