she leaned her body against the doorframe after opening it, needing the break from the walk she had taken from the elevator ( that even she had never been game enough to use until this day ) to renee’s apartment. she thought as well that she had only used the door itself once before. after a moment she closed it gently, for once not wanting to wake the other. she was thankful for the darkness.
she could see renee, curled up on her side of the bed. helena had not told her when she would be back, she hadn’t exactly had the time to update her -- -- no. from the moment she had landed in bangkok it had been nothing but blow after blow, imprisoned then accepting her potential ( but likely ) death, to the medical treatment where everything had gotten blurry, giving into the dizziness that spun her head. dinah & zinda had both offered their places or to come stay at hers, but helena insisted that she didn’t need to be watched all night & wanted to be dropped off here. she was relieved to be back, to be home.
she lifted her sore legs to slide off the shoes at her feet, sharp breath exhaled, unable to holding back something audible as she lowered herself into the bed, feeling the pain everywhere. she didn’t bother to take any of her clothes off, knowing that it would hurt like hell trying to pull off her shirt & she was fine not drawing attention to the bandages underneath. she knew it had been worth it no matter the consequences, she would do it all over again if she had to, but she was not looking forward to the pain that was likely to double in the morning, nor the sight of her reflection. her head still spun as she lay down, unable to move from her back & she wondered whether after the endless day that she had had ( two flights at twenty hours & the beating of her life ) that she’d be able to sleep.
