my partner hadn't played the AA series ever and i was really annoying about wanting to replay it... so we started over the summer and we just cracked open SOJ this week. and you know, before playing DD i really thought this guy was gonna disappoint me but i have never been so wrong. he's the coolest cunt around and lethally embarrassing. i keep sporadically tweeting about it but i should've been liveblogging from the very beginning. like right from 2007

Shadowgrounds (2005ish?)
Play the Steam demo of this sometime. B-tier then, obscure now; an ambitious top-down thing that doesn’t hold up at all. The shooting gets repetitive fast, the boss fight’s poorly designed, the characters and story tack on every available cliche, and the stealth bits are entirely unwelcome. Plus, the camera-movement is a little headache-y. I said no thanks & bounced before I even reached the demo’s end.
There’s a nightclub sequence that is pretty great though.

Last night’s dinner: Mushroom + potato vareniki and onion + potato vareniki in a browned butter with fried sage and sautéed peas, topped with shaved parmesan, served alongside a cabbage salad and a cucumber salad and paired with a cheap but still quite tasty sauvignon blanc sourced from Paso Robles.
