I find it funny how Okashi na Shima no Peter Pan has almost all of the characters from the original story with their typical names, and then you have a character loosely based on the crocodile named Scissor Gavialwatch. So you’ve got Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, James, Tinker Bell (also Tink Bell for some reason)… and Scissor… Let’s just say you can tell a British person did not come up with that name lol.

My Lover is a Deranged Rabbit: Alice in the Heart- Peter Review
Alice in the Heart has not been received favorably by many fans. I’ve read several reviews and rants about its many shortcomings. Many have called the game half-assed, drawing attention the poor translation quality, hastily edited CGs, and lackluster writing. For me this is my first ever Quin Rose game (I’m a Quin Rose virgin ;) ), so I may be a bit more forgiving of shortcomings in the game…I’m…
Hello hello! As I mentioned in my walkthrough, I also wanted to include a review over Peter White's route. Now this won't be terribly long... at least, I hope.
I just want to write out a couple of points and all the things I enjoyed as well as some of its flaws which I'm sure as a HnKnA brand new fan might not even be flaws and I'm just getting ahead of myself...
But anyway! Let's begin! This is a review for Peter White's route from Heart no Kuni no Alice! This review contains tiny spoilers, but I will try my darnest not to spoil your experience!
♦ BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING ♦
I should probably begin by saying that this is my first time ever playing or seeing or looking at HnKnA. I knew it existed! I knew it was an Alice in Wonderland otome and I knew that I wanted to play it one day. But I didn't hold high hopes since my Japanese sucks and I wasn't so certain it would ever get translated. So I put it past me and focused on other games.
I really downloaded it out of mere curiosity. Why not? I was downloading a bunch of other games because I wasn't feeling very well so why not try this super popular one by this big company.
Despite the mishaps with the translation, something which I'm sure EEEVERYONE and their mom has talked about (if you don't know, the Japanese to English translation is very Engrish), I was still really impressed.
The voice acting was superb, the characters were all really different, I laughed a lot... it was a fantastic prologue and a long one too. It really drew me completely in by the end despite typos and all sorts of strange sentences.
I don't even hold it against Quin rose. They're dipping their feet into the American market and there is nothing wrong with it. I think it's a fantastic idea and I do hope that a lot of people buy as many routes as they can so we can show them that we are very much interested in their games. Maybe we can even get a better translation with an update.
I totally lost my point in all of this. Focusing back on the route itself! Peter caught my eye immediately. Not only because he was the first character, but because in a long time I hadn't played someone like him. Someone very attractive but he was absolutely lost in his own sort of sanity.
He was strange and obsessive, and it actually kind of captivated me. For me, he was the canon route and I wanted to find out more.
♦ WHITE RABBIT ♦
Peter is absolutely unique. He is absolutely mad, but cunning, brave at the face of danger, but cowardly when facing loss. He is cold-blooded to absolutely everyone but Alice and he isn't afraid to kill when he likes. To him, everyone except his beloved can be replaced.
If someone shoots him, he shoots back. Half of the time he is trying to get rid of everyone around him and he isn't afraid to speak his mind even to his boss. (And his mind is very rude.)
From the very start it is pretty obvious that there is something off about him. Obsessed with Alice, he seeks her out every chance that he gets and proclaims his undying love for her. She, of course, is disgusted. How could I guy who picked her up and threw her down a hole with him and into a strange new world even begin to think that she would ever fall in love with him? How could she?
It was obvious he stalked her and even more that he was the reason he was in such a big mess. Her hatred for him was so big I honestly couldn't see how this would ever develop into a romance.
It wasn't just because Peter himself was odd, but because Alice had such a strong character. (Not a bad thing!)
She was a realist and extremely smart. She knew that people sometimes got attached to their kidnappers and developed Stockholm Syndrome. She knew that if she started to get attached to such a nutcase that she would probably be thought of as one as well.
But Peter could care less what others thought of him. His only joy and his only happiness was her. Even if she said mean things, he only heard what he wanted to hear and turn her words against her. Even if she hit him, he would thoroughly enjoy it. Despite her words filled with spite, he would take them as her being shy.
Truthfully, if a guy like this started following me around, I would also be really scared.
But Peter... in his own way, really just wants her to be happy. He doesn't understand understand what love is. At first I didn't get what Alice meant by this. He insisted and persisted and I really did believe his words because it felt true to me. But she denied them because she said that he didn't know what he was saying.
He throws around the word love so effortlessly that in a way, it did sound like he was just saying it to say it.
I don't know what it is that brought him to obsess over Alice so much. It is never explained; though I do hope that either in the true route or the bad end it shows what happened. But I truly did believe that what he said was real, at least to him.
What is love? It is such a cheesy question, but can any of us really define it? Alice has her own definition of perfect love. I have my own. But do any of us really know what it is? What it is to feel that kind of passion? I honestly believe that we all feel it a little different than others.
And I think that in his own way, Peter really was in love with Alice. After so much longing for her, after making his only wish completely about her, after putting her above anyone else and up on a very high pedestal, I really do think that he worships her from the bottom of his heart.
And by the very end, I think Alice does understand that even if he might say cheesy lines and words often, that he never once has lied to her about it. He may be many things.
Yandere, violent, cold-blooded... absolutely adorable in his rabbit form... but most of all, he is honest.
♦ FEAR OR LOVE ♦
I mentioned before how I didn't see how this route could ever develop into romance. I am sure I wasn't alone when for half of the route, Alice is completely hating on Peter without absolutely mercy.
But slowly and surely, they grow closer and closer. Peter is a lot to deal with, and I don't blame Alice for wanting to stay away from him. But with his insistence and constant presence there was little she could do but get used to it. And once she simply accepted who he was (well, not all of who he was) she found herself slowly becoming a lot more tolerant.
Despite Peter's words still being corny and a little too much, she started not minding them as much. She slowly figured out a way to manage his own cold-bloodedness by speaking his own sort of "language".
And as they grew closer, they both began to change each other. Alice found comfort in her new best friend. She started to feel at peace with her life at the castle, and even when knowing that she had to go home someday, most of her had found many reasons not to.
Peter, even if he was still a bit of a snob with everyone but Alice, found himself stepping out of his comfort zone just so he could make her proud. From trying to overcome his germphobia to being a little bit kinder to the maids and the soldiers.
And by kinder I mean, not immediately shooting them.
They both found happiness with each other and before Alice could even realize it, she was in love with him. She found joy whenever his cold eyes would turn soft for her.
It honestly broke my heart that despite Peter loving her so much he couldn't believe she loved him back. In his deepest desires they were meant to be, but he always saw it as a one-sided thing.
I really don't think that he ever thought they could truly be together. His wish was her happiness. That's it. So for him to watch her be happy with him... I was so excited for him at the end.
♦ HEADS OR TAILS ♦
If there was something I truthfully enjoyed so much was the friendship between Vivaldi and Alice. There is nothing like a wise older woman to be your friend, especially someone who is so funny and blunt without even meaning to be.
I really thought of her at first to be very cold-hearted, but she really becomes someone so special to me. I don't know how I will enjoy other routes that don't include her in it because she was my BFF.
Her words slice right through people even more so than her guillotine, but she does have a heart.
Another really interesting character was Ace! Despite appearances and his words, Ace is not stupid whatsoever. He tries to deceive you with his friendly appearance but he is very good with words. It is no wonder how he can survive with such brutal characters like the queen and the white rabbit.
He can 100% hold his own. Honestly, I feel like his words are sarcasm almost all the time but at the same time he holds such a nice smile that you believe them to be true! He has this quirky personality to him that I can't wait to find more about.
Even more so than any of these characters, I LOVED the maids. They were so sweet and happy and I wanted to brush their hair. I love the friendship that Alice develops with them and how tolerant they are with Peter despite him being absolutely crazy.
Honestly, without the side characters this wouldn't be as enjoyable as it was. Even Nightmare, (WHICH I'M SO PISSED DOESN'T HAVE A ROUTE YET) was awesome. I wanna talk more about him, but I don't wanna spoil too much since his scenes aren't that many and you guys just definitely gotta play it to find out more about him.
Please Quinrose! I beg you! GIVE US NIGHTMARE'S ROUTE.
♦ OFF WE GO ♦
Okay, so I LIED. This wasn't even a little short... BUT, I hope you guys did enjoy reading my rantings and that this helped you kind of decide on whether to buy Peter or not. Honestly, his route was really fun for me. I loved Peter as a character.
Even with all the madness going on, he was great and I did believe that by the end, Alice truly did love him as much as he loved her.
Thank you so so much for reading! Have a great day/night!
