Elder Jared Phelps (Canon) A recently returned missionary, who, since returning has been the complete Butt Monkey of all who knew him. His family moved without telling him, he lost his job and his girl, and to add insult to injury, got thrown in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Life kicks him while he's still down. He just returned from his mission. Frankly it's a miracle he's still a member after the day he's had.

Martin Blackwood (Headcanon) Martin is a gay, soft-spoken, archival assistant with a love for tea and poetry (and occasionally, violence). He grew up with a chronically ill single mom, who he dropped out of school to care for. He is affiliated with The Lonely and seems to have a hard time feeling like he belongs anywhere. I think Martin would be ex-mormon. I could see his mom as the type of Mormon who uses the idea of charity and service to manipulate and guilt people into doing what she wants. I think Martin would take a while away from religion, but throughout the series end up turning back to his faith, and praying, even if he isn't sure if he believes God is there.
