I really, REALLY wanted to try and put an interpretation of Corrupted Spinel in here, but I couldn’t find a good spot, nor could I make it tie into her character arc at all, so I scrapped the idea. But I love it so I drew concept art for it anyway.

I can’t say too much since the events that could lead up to this event are written into the story, but basically, she fuses with a corrupted gem (why I won’t tell you, but you’ll probably be able to connect the dots when we get to that part), passing the corruption onto herself. This happens AFTER Earthlings, too, just to add in a bit more tension on wether she can be healed or not since things with Jasper did NOT end well and if this fails Spinel will be gone.

I fully believe that if Jasper just LET Steven help her, she could have been healed, but she’s a prideful idiot, so. But with Spinel, she’d probably be yelling for him if he wasn’t already nearby. How quickly he gets to her determines how bad the effects would be.

If I’m being honest, I’d probably heal her at the 3rd stage just for the consequences it presents and the tension it’d create, but any of these stages would be good (except the first, I think). Only problem with that is all the other gems would be nervous to fuse with Spinel, wondering if the corruption effects would spread to them and we wouldn’t find out until *spoilers* that no, they’d all be fine. But again, this idea is scrapped so no one has to worry about that. (Also Stage 4 Corrupt Spins is HUGE, much bigger than I’ve drawn her here!)

I’m probably gonna write a fic where this exact scenario happens, though, because again, I love this concept. I feel like if the show had more time and the opportunity, it would maybe experiment with this idea, too; could Steven heal a half-corrupt Gem? What would happen if it was a main member of the cast? Who would it be? That would be so interesting to watch, but alas. There probably wasn’t a good spot for it, anyway (besides Future, but Steeb doesn’t count).

She was really fun to draw holy heck XD

I imagine that she can have a mouth to emote, but her resting face has none drawn. But when she smiles or opens her mouth, it becomes visible.

Spinel really wants to be Steven’s best friend and seems to view Amethyst and Connie as obstacles to that goal. How would a corrupted Spinel act around those two?

I imagine that Corrupted Spinel acts very similarly to Rejuvinated!Spinel from the movie, feeling emotions towards people or situations but not understanding why. So when it comes to those two, Spinel will have very complex feelings towards them. Surface level, she’s going to smother them with attention just as much as everyone else (when she isn’t paying all her attention to Steven), but when Steven gets near anyone else, she becomes protective, almost like she’s shielding him from a potential attack. This is especially bad with Connie, since more than likely, our girl may just have a certain sharp object with her that may be perceived as a threat.

She acts similarly towards Pearl as she does with Steven, but to a lesser degree.
