Assassin’s Creed: Origins - Bayek & Rabiah
Bayek! I have worried about you!
You know me, eh? You should be worried!
I carry a torch in one hand
And a bucket of water in the other:
With these things I am going to set fire to Heaven
And put out the flames of Hell
So that voyagers to God can rip the veils
And see the real goal.
- Rābiʿa al-ʿAdawiyya al-Qaysiyya

Here's a quick sketch of Rabiah!
Day 16: Save the girl
I rush forward, grabbing the girl from the man's grasp. He shoots a bullet, which only slightly grazes my arm. "Hey!!" I can hear him screaming.
"Thank you so much... I can handle the rest from here," she says, standing up as she looks back at me.
"I saved you and now you're gonna go back in there?" I ask curiously.
"Hehe, yeah, this is what I came here for after all! My name is Kominushu Trenchu and I'm from Sil. What I need you to do is meet up with my brother Trekkon. He can help... and I know he's in here..." she explains.
I nod, taking it all in. She starts talking again.
"I will deal this retribution to Death... I promise I'll get him back, mom," when she talks this time, it's in a soft whisper.
The Habit of Letters
((None of these are sent, and he burns them in an ashtray when he’s finished writing each one. In a house full of inquisitive youngsters, he’s already in the habit of covering his tracks.))
Rabiah,
Well, I feel like shit that they chose me, but I’m sure not sad about it. Tzafrirah’s right, I’d miss them and her way with the little ones, and you’re only a neighborhood away. But I still feel like shit about it. All those kids, they were yours first.
Godsdammit, I miss my friend.
J.
Rabiah,
Sounds stupid to ask, ‘could I have done something?’ Your cousin said it didn’t have much to do with me, just with being a refugee who needed something to fix on. Some north star.
And you know what? You’re a damn fine-looking woman, brave and smart, and I like you. I like you plenty. If you’d spoken up early, I - gods, I don't know. You talked about my kind like shit on your shoe, and I agreed with it. Mostly.
J.
Rabiah,
Thing is, I love her. Gods, she’s moody sometimes. She could turn a bloody hangnail into a week of drama, and we fight like cats in a sack. But I see shit in her that looks familiar, and she’s -- I’m no poet, I don’t know. I don’t know words. She’s no missing half of me or something, no one is. I don’t need another half. But there’s something about her that fits, and I like her and want her and love her, and I want to keep her happy for as long as I can.
J.
Rabiah,
I’m gonna put in paperwork to adopt the four youngest kids. I’m a forty-year-old fighter with no wife and no history with children, so gods only know what’ll happen. I’m doing it anyway.
I’d never have taken them in if you hadn’t said so. Never. You started all the good things.
