Do you think when you eventually retire, you'll take a look at all the custom cards and such that you're currently not allowed to look at?

We’ve done four “You Make the Card” promotions and three Great Designer Searches. I have properly seen lots and lots of player designed cards.

I think they've said before that there's a lot of "noise to signal" or something like that. Meaning basically most of them aren't worth looking at. A few are but are things they're already doing or have at least considered. And a relatively small sliver are anything truly worth the effort of sifting through all the noise. In short it isn't worth their time.

in general i do really like when the 'boundaries for rules and penalties for breaking the rules' are (correctly) understood as part of 'how the game is played' in competitive games. ppl always get really snippy about this kind of thing but i lay firmly on the side of "the spirit of the rules does not exist, the rules exist as they are enforced". and so anyway i just noticed you forgot your pact trigger earlier and you just tapped out for a spell, so im putting that on the stack now.

Actually! This is now the correct enforcement of the rule at competitive REL. Like any other missed trigger, the player is given the opportunity to put it on the stack at the point that they realize it's been missed, though they of course get warned (as does their opponent) for failure to maintain game state. So the correct way to catch your opponent out for forgetting a pact trigger *is* to get them to tap out some mana, then call over a judge and point out their pact trigger, at which point they cannot pay and lose.

color identity is just so intuitive already why would you confuse new players by making hybrid cards work the same way they do in every other format. Theyd just get so confused. Color identity would stop being simple and intuitive and fundamentally tied to the color of permanents you have in play

whatever joke there is to be had here is already delivered by Hit-Monkey being given the type "Monkey Assassin" but instead we need a quote from a comic that is repeats this bit while otherwise totally unfitting the context of the card. also its important to us at marvel that while reading the card "Hit-Monkey" you also know that deadpool's real name is wade wilson

In your ideal vision for it, would you prefer to see future editions of Mood Swings come with new art for the game or do you prefer to continue with Magic art for it?

If there proves to be a large enough audience for Mood Swings, I would like to one day have a version with original, colored art.

I assume you’ve tried to make Vanilla Matters a theme at least a few times, right? Well, I was thinking about how there are a lot of creatures that are functionally vanilla after a certain point, in that they have an enters trigger and no other abilities, or an exhaust ability, or something similar. Have you ever experimented with making creatures lose all abilities after they activate or trigger as part of a Vanilla Matters theme?

I don’t feel a need to do a “Vanilla matters” theme. I don’t think it leads to fun gameplay.

Relying on virtual vanillas doesn't actually feel like you're doing vanilla creatures because... you aren't. Mark's described before all sorts of problems with this theme and one of them is that as you explore potential solutions (like this) you actually just aren't really doing vanilla matters anymore.

I'm looking to acquire a DGT Cube Game Timer or a G8 Gamer timer, as shown above. The cube accommodates timing up to 6 players and the G8 can time up to eight.

I've contacted both manufacturers and I've looked for them secondhand online. It seems neither are manufactured and I didn't see any on Ebay.

I'd appreciate any leads anyone has. Have an old one lying around by chance?

I didn't want to add onto the MaRo post about the price of Mood Swings so I'll just say this here. it definitely sucks. Keyforge decks are 36 cards and could be easily bought for $10. I think that's a good comparison because it's also a randomized card game that doesn't encourage you to buy expensive meta cards. $25 for 45 cards is just ridiculous compared to almost any other card game on the market, that's more expensive than buying the equivalent in mtg play boosters. for $25 I expect a board game with meeples, not a few pieces of card stock

Keyforge is a great comparison point. I did kind of assume there would be a "booster box" product of Mood Swings available. That I maybe would have tried to rationalize buying. I did it with the first installment of Keyforge to get a taste for it.

As far as commenting on Mark's stuff, I think you've gotta do it where he and Wizards might see it. As things are either people buy Mood Swings enough to make it a success and the next drop occurs in a similar way at a similar price point OR people don't buy enough and the product is seen as a failure and dies.

I think the only potential for an in between there (and it's still not great) is for Wizards to see us voicing these particular concerns and addressing them. Particularly if the product has middling success and there seems to be a significant untapped market that didn't buy in due to the distribution model and cost.

Maybe next time around they try to grab into that market.

I’m not sure it says it anywhere but Mood Swings First Edition is $25. That’s for a 45-card deck. Everything you need to play for 2-4 players.

Does this feel gross to anyone else?

I wouldn't pay more than $5 for a nice deck of playing cards. And at $25 I'd expect everything you need to play to include a copy of every card in this set.

Like I get that isn't the business model they're going for but this feels like it should be more Dominion or something and less cash grab gambling cards.

I could go on but this price point coupled with it being a Secret Lair brought me from immense excitement for Mood Swings to the realization that I won't be buying a product I've been looking forward to for years.
