My school's holding an election for my grade. Yay.
I don't really care for it really, because I know that it'll be very hard to juggle all that responsibility (though I know it's good for college apps'!!) and I most likely wouldn't be able to even get enough votes too.
Which takes me to my next point.
I'm really tired of those statements the candidates make, (not mentioning names) like how beneficial they will be, blah blah blah. To me, those kinds of statements are too superficial to me. I mean, be honest! Like, "I know this is really an election over popularity, so I'm going to be the only candidate to stop harassing you guys with the message to vote for me. Instead, I'll be all chill and sit back while psychologically brain-wash you into voting for me." Okay, it was everything up to when I started talking about the psychology thing.
But I bet you guys get the idea.
So that pretty much factors into why I don't want to run. I know deep in my little heart that it's all really a battle of the popular kids, and to be even more frank, I think all the candidates are either doing it for college apps, or to get even more popular. It's either one or the other. I swear.
And now I think it's obnoxious now people are going around talking to people THEY DON'T USUALLY EVER LOOK AT OR TALK TO and asking for votes. Like what. the. flipping. flubbernuggets.
Okay, fine. I understand that you need votes. But could you do it more subtlety? It's kinda like you're like a rabid squirrel chasing people around with the message, VOTE FOR MEEE. It's not like we can't. Well we could decide to not vote, but I bet the there's going to be a block reserved JUST TO VOTE FUU.
So if you want to go about getting people's votes, here are some tips from the common student about how to convince the masses:
1. Don't be a rabid squirrel. Save it for Halloween. (It's only a few weeks away!!)
2. Like one, don't harass people with "VOTE ME" that's like a turn-off to someone with a working brain at the moment. (Hopefully more of our voters have our brains on. And are not sheep.)
3. I know that it's tiring to go around stating your goals and everything, but I think that's slightly better than saying VOTE ME. I don't like long speeches either. I have classes to go to. If you really do have a speech to make to convince people, use it as flyers. That's so much better than seeing a piece of paper with the candidate's face pasted on it. (Cough cough...)
4. Again, please don't go all artificial and state vague and open-ended statements about what you're going to do. I like real examples, and I'm sure everyone else would too. It would seem like you really do care. And not trying to use us like a tool. Also to stagger the examples, cuz it'll be awkward to have friends talking then they realize that you told them the same thing. That'll make you look even worse. Prepare a lot of notes!
5. This isn't for the candidates but for the election in general. I would like to see a debate day with the candidates. That'll help a lot to see who I'll vote for. And it's a great chance to miss one class. :D
I sound like a hater. I guess I am one now. Here's my opinion, now I wonder about yours. (Hint, hint.)
This turned out longer than I thought. I'm glad that you took the time to read this rant/essay. Thanks for reading!
