Old enough to live on their own...but they still look like they need their Mama 😢 2 of Maabs kits have decided to stick together for now. One of them has a small bite on her foot (not serious), which means she’s already dealt with some of the harsh realities of being an adult. Kits that are born in early spring have the luxury of staying with their mom until January or their first winter is over...Maabs kits were born late however, and have had to grow up fast - just like Maabs did. I wasn’t going to make a post today...my health hasn’t been good and it’s holding me back from doing much...but so much has happened in the last 2 days, I thought I would throw one together anyway. To start with, Maabs is now on her own. The kits have moved on without her. She arrived in the garden tonight looking quite aimless and without purpose. I knew right away she was going through the loneliness a mother feels when her babies grow up 😢 I called her over for a comforting snack (which she took hastily- video in our story)...but the speed at which she came when I called her, showed me the depth of her loneliness and just wanting to be around others. It was so weird to see her alone tonight. I’ve grown used to her being mama Maabs! Always busy! Last night it was lonely Biyik that showed up wanting company. Biyik update- The swelling on his foot has gone down, and he is able to walk on it without a limp✌🏻 I don’t think things worked out well between him and Hildy... When Biyik visited last night, he seemed quite down and lonely. He would paw at the door repeatedly, and when I would answer, he just wanted to sniff my hand and look at me. I’m starting to wonder if he thinks Hildy lives with me? Perhaps he tracked her scent to my door, and since he has seen me be close to her...he is connecting me to her...thinking that if I’m there, Hildy will also be there? Late post, but I wanted to give a quick clan update. Poor Biyik is the first to get an injury from mating season fights. It’s always a shock to open your door and see blood and an injured animal 😢😱 Luckily, Biyik’s injury is not severe and he should recover fine on his own. His foot will be swollen for awhile though, so I hope he is smart and stays away from the ladies in the clan at least until he is healed. In other news, Maabs is still together with her kits. They clearly aren’t ready to leave mom just yet 😅...meaning Hildy is really the only available female at this time.
