It really does feel like an not insignificant amount of people on tumblr loved to just group and generalize all of asia together as one homogeneous blob, but then when south asians and south east asians starting speaking up about the unique kinds of discriminations they face, the same people suddenly realized they cant sound progressive while doing this anymore and have narrowed thw window into generalizing east asia as a monolithic blob.

Peeling

As a child, I was convinced that with every layer you peel off, your skin got lighter. After all, folds and creases make your skin darker. Skin was like spider webs: you could barely see just one, but if you stacked them they became opaque.

I don’t want lighter skin. Even as a thought experiment, I think pale skin would make me worse. I still have the odd intrusive thought of digging my nails a few inches in and peeling.
