Started playing Borderlands 4 and I’m nowhere near done with the game, but I totally fell in love with Rafa. So, plz enjoy! lol
The safehouse smelled faintly of gun oil and cheap instant noodles. A rusted fan rattled overhead, struggling to push back the Kairos heat. The night was quiet, save for Rafa’s muttering and the distant crack of gunfire across the outer town ruins.
You leaned back on the battered couch, legs kicked up on the table that was cluttered with various papers and ammo boxes. Rafa sat on the floor, his left foot propped on his right thigh, sparks flickering as he adjusted the stubborn wires in the calf of his Deadframe. He moved with a practiced elegance that made it look effortless, though you knew better.
“You really enjoy spending your nights sweet-talking that thing, don’t you?” you said, cracking an eye open with a smirk.
Rafa’s eyes flicked toward you, a grin already forming. “Careful, cariño. This thing is the only reason you didn’t get turned into Swiss cheese today… If you like, I could let you kiss it for good luck.”
You snorted. “I’ll pass, kissing an exo-suit is not on the top of my list.”
He glanced up, grin widening. “Ay, how about kissing the man in the suit?”
“You’re impossible.” You muttered, rolling your eyes.
“And yet… You didn’t say no,” he teased, twisting a connector with a flick of his wrist. Sparks danced across the joint, making him hiss under his breath.
“Smooth,” you said, with a lazy grin. “Trying to flirt and electrocute yourself at the same time? Bold strategy for sure."
He shot you a sideways look, all teeth and mischief. “Don’t act like you’re not impressed. A man who knows his way around tech? That’s irresistible, sí?”
You laughed, shaking your head. “What, is that your go-to when flirting?”
“Is it working?” He asked, shifting to his other leg. The Deadframe whirred softly as he adjusted the inner panel.
You stood, stretching lazily. “I don’t know, you tell me.”
“Hmm?” Rafa hummed distractedly, still focused on the connectors. He only noticed you when your shadow blocked the overhead light.
You leaned down and tilted his chin up with a gentle hand. His breath hitched just before your lips met his. The kiss was soft and deliberate. When you pulled back, Rafa was grinning like he’d just won the jackpot.
“Good choice,” he said, voice low. “Skipping the suit and going straight for the man.”
You groaned and started to step away.
“Espera, cariño.” His hand shot out, catching your wrist. His grin never faltered, playful and infuriating. “Who said I was done with you?”
Summary: Waking up in a prison cell after landing on a new planet is never fun. Especially after listening to some whole speech from an asshole who calls himself the Timekeeper. Who then goes to screw a bolt into your spine trapping you on said planet. However getting the process interrupted by a series of explosions, might as well have made this the luckiest day ever.
Warnings: major slow burn, death, descriptions of death, swearing,
A/n: This is my first ever fic so please be kind to me. I tried to have as little description as possible of the reader other than being female. And I believe y/n is only used once. Also I do NOT speak spanish, so if any is wrong I’m so sorry. Reader is a siren with abilities kind of like Zoey from Kpop Demon hunters so knives lol. NOT PROOF READ.

The explosions knock me from the chair I was tied to, shoving me to my hands and knees. “What the hell?” I sputter coughing as the dust clears. “Really hope I just blew up the right rooms.” A voice calls out from a distance. “Echo-4 check to see if anyone is alive in those rooms, and I’ll check this one.” I hear the voice call out again before a figure approaches me.
“Hell yeah! Two for one.” I look up to see a man approaching me with his gun held up to the sky to show that he’s not a threat. “Are you hurt, are you okay?” He asks, kneeling in front of me. I cough trying to clear the dust from my throat. “Yeah I’m fine, but who the hell are you?” I ask my voice hoarse from the dust and smoke clouding my lungs. “Oh right sorry, my name is Arjay and I’m here to get you out of here.” He explains, as he gently grabs my arm helping me to my feet before continuing. “And in the next room over is Echo-4, my robot.” He says as I look around to get my bearings. Suddenly we hear a series of distant boops and beeps from what I assume is his robot he was talking about. The guy Ajay I think he said runs through the hole blown up in the room and over to the next room.
I hurriedly search the two guards that got killed by the blasts, and grab one of their guns. I pick up what looks to be a pistol and rush over to the next room. As I approach the improvised doorway I see Arjay and his Echo helping up a man in armour and a mask “Eso duele.” He groans as he stands up, his voice slightly muffled by the mask. “I’m Arjay and this is Echo-4. I'm a Vault Hunter with the Crimson Resistance, and I’m here to get you guys out of here.” Arjay explains to the man tossing him a weapon. “ I am Rafa, a pleasure.” The stranger responds while stretching for a second. “And who might you be?” He asks, gesturing towards me; his accent thick. “y/n, also a Vault Hunter, but not with whatever resistance this guy is from.” I say nodding my head to where Arjay stands Echo floating beside him.
“Ay well this is unfortunate for us ¿Sí?” Rafa as we’ve learned speaks while gesturing to our predicament. “As much as I’d love for us to all get to know each other, but we gotta move and fast.” Arjay says interrupting us. “Let us get out of here.” Rafa agrees, nodding his head at both me and Arjay.
As we make our way through the halls the alarm blares loud. “Crap, they've placed this whole thing on lockdown.” Arjay says as we run through the halls. “Not that I’m complaining but why help us?” Rafa calls out to Arjay. “Hopefully my intel was correct but you are both vault hunters right” Arjay asks in response. “Sí.” Rafa says while nodding. “Well the Crimson Resistance is gonna free this whole planet. And I figured we could use all the Vault Hunters we could get.” Arjay explains as we come to a stop. “Okay” he whispers, “there's about 5 guards patrolling this next area. Do you guys think you’re good to fight?” “I don’t think we have much of a choice.” I respond while pulling the pistol I had found out gearing up to fight. We round the corner and start shooting at the guards effectively taking most out with the three of us. As we get down to two, more guards start appearing from the triangles in the ground.
“Shit” I mutter as I run out of ammo. I summon my knives, and send them flying to some of the guards' heads as we finish off the rest of them. Rafa turns to face me, “Woah could’ve mentioned you were a Siren.” “Well with current pressing matters I didn't think it was of utmost importance.” I respond as Arjay thankfully tosses me some more ammo. “It’s not something I like to talk about.” I mutter brushing past Rafa as we continue to make our way through the prison.
As we make our way through different rooms fending off enemies. Rafa decides to fill the silence with some small talk. “So are we sure that this is a prison? It’s giving off more like luxury hotel vibes.” He jokes with a laugh. “Well It’s called the order for a reason. They like to keep things nice and tidy, people too.” Arjay says with a saddened laugh. I grimace at the reality of the situation. How many lives has this order ruined just for their so-called perfection? And what would happen to us if we don’t get out? The thought makes me urge forward faster, desperate to escape. “Everyone who lands here, ends up here. The only welcome people are the time keepers' domination and trust me you don’t want to meet those guys.” Arjay explains to us as we pass some more empty cells. “Wait, you mean there's not a single person here without a bolt in them?” I ask shocked looking at Arjay. “Almost everyone does. If you don’t then you are one lucky person.”
“Here up ahead should be the security room. If we can get in then we can find a way out.” Arjay says as we jog up a section of stairs. When we round the corner we come face to face with some more security guards. This time taking them out is getting a lot more efficient the more we get a sense of how we all fight. After we take them out we all sprint into the room and seal the door. As Arjay and Rafa head towards the center console, I take some time to loot the room to see if anything is helpful. “Hey guys!” I call to them. “I found a whole chest of confiscated weapons!” “Excelente!” Rafa calls as he heads over to me. I hand him some of the weapons and pick out what I want. “Listen about earlier when I called out your powers, I did not mean to offend.” Rafa says softly to me as we search the rest of the room. “I- I know” I say with a sigh. “I shouldn’t have reacted that way, you had no way of knowing. It’s just a sensitive topic for me. Not everyone sees sirens as people. So when someone calls it out I get a little defensive immediately thinking the worst.” He nods in understanding.
“Guys Echo might have to take a minute to hack the door but I got an Idea. If we can unlock all the prisoners' doors hopefully it can provide a distraction. That way we have a bit more time to try and get your guys’ Bolt jammed. I just need one of you to press the main button over there. It should open the doors to their cells!” Arjay explains, seeming a bit more hopeful than earlier. “Allow me” Rafa says, strutting up to the central console again. I sigh at his theatrics and look at the floor. As the button is pressed all the doors previously keeping the prisoners contained open. Setting off a different alarm throughout the prison.
“Hell yeah prison break!” Arjay exclaims excitedly. We start making our way towards a different set of doors leading out when an announcement rings from every speaker. “This is a reminder that every prisoner should think cautiously about their next actions, and to remember that he. Is always. Watching. There is no escape. No one leaves.” “Yeesh that didn’t sound ominous at all.” I say sarcastically, earning a chuckle from Rafa at my side. “Ah yes I am sure he reads from his how to sound threatening manual, every morning preparing for the star role!” Rafa jokes back with me as we follow Arjay down the hallway.
As we reach the outside me and Rafa stop to stare at the sky in shock. The sky held what looked to be a giant moon with cracks of glowing purple strung through it. Parts of the rock floating around it, and around the moon itself the sky cracking. Looking as if the planet was cased in, and the moon had broken it open. “Hell of a sight huh?” Arjay comments, noticing our stares at the sky. “One day it just appeared, shattering the sky. Raining down and feeling like shards against our skin. Everyone thought the world was ending. And I guess it kinda did.” He explains his tone melancholy. Then to a bit more angered one. “The Time Keeper has been in full tyrant mode ever since.” He then sighs. “Come on, the prisoners won’t make it far but, it’ll give us enough time.”
Arjay leads us across some bridges before we come across some more of the Time Keepers guards outside a building entrance. We band together and take them down as quickly as possible. Not long after Rafa pipes up as we head towards the door. “What did you mean when you said the prisoners won't make it far?” He asks glancing from me to Arjay. “They’re bolted just like us.” Arjay says as we start to descend some stairs. “Won’t be long before the Time Keeper marches them right back to their cells.” “Wait, you're telling me he can control us that easily?!” I exclaim panicked. “Yes unfortunately, that’s why it’s imperative that we jam your bolts as soon as possible.” I looked to Rafa nervously before we carry on.
We make our way through some more hallways, fending off guards here and there. Rounding the corner we stop and a dead end. I pause at the beginning. “Come on guys, we're almost there.” Arjay exclaims, turning back to look at me. “Uh amigo not to doubt your directional skills but that is a wall no?” Rafa says hesitantly. “Thats why I brought these!” Arjay says with a smile pulling out two devices. “Here hold out your arm.” Arjay says to me. I hesitantly hold my left arm out. He attaches the device to my forearm, the inside glowing softly, and then proceeds to do the same to Rafa. “Here now watch me.” Arjay says demonstrating how to use the grappling device. A bright blue line connects to the ledge pulling him up and over it.
“Now you guys try!” He yells from up top. Rafa steps up and presses the device effectively launching him up and over like Arjay had done. I nervously step closer and use the device. As it launches me up quickly I yell in surprise trying to find my footing quickly. Unfortunately I stumble as I land ungracefully forward. Suddenly two arms in front of me go to steady me. I look up, and am met with the glow from Rafa’s mask as he continues to steady me. “Falling for me already hermosa? We haven’t even known each other for a whole twenty four hours yet, how scandalous!” He jokes as a blush quickly rises to my face. I quickly step back and brush myself off. “You wish” I scoff walking past him and Arjay awkwardly standing there, watching the whole ordeal.
We jog down before being faced with a huge slope leading down to water. “We have to slide down, it's the only way forward.” Arjay explains sympathetically seeing the look on my face. “Here I’ll go first.” Arjay says before sliding down and jumping off using his grappling hook to swing him up and over to another ledge. “What is he crazy?!?” I exclaim panicked. “There’s no way I’m pulling that off.” “I don’t think we have a choice.” Rafa says with a sigh behind me. “Ladies first.” I hesitantly step forward before just saying fuck it and sliding down. As I quickly gain momentum from sliding, I try using the grapple like Arjay did, however when I try to use it, it wont work. “Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” I yell as I miss the point and go falling over the edge towards the water.
I splash hard into the water and it rushes into my mouth as I try to swim up. When I break the surface coughing I hear an excited yell and the words. “Cannon Ball!” I quickly look over to see another splash in the water. Rafa quickly breaks the surface, his mask flickering for a second. “Rafa!” I exclaim. “Did you also miss the point, why are you down here?” I ask confused as we tread the water. “I couldn’t leave you by yourself could I? Arjay knows his way around. You and I however do not.” He explains while starting to swim to the bank. I quickly start to swim after him and wade through the water onto the land. “So why not follow him since he knows where he’s going?” I ask still confused, trying to wring the water out of my hair and clothes. “What can I say? I like a little adventure.” He says, I can practically hear the smirk most likely behind that mask.
The walkie we’ve been carrying crackles to life, Arjay’s voice filtering through. “Damn looks like we got separated. You guys good?” “Rafa is always good!” Rafa speaks over the walkie. “So escape successful? Are we clear?” He asks Arjay over the walkie as we start to make our way forward into the forest. “Not exactly.” Arjay responds sheepishly over the walkie. “The order is going to have search parties combing through these woods. I stashed us a ride though. Let's meet up ahead.” “Guess we better get going.” I say with a sigh as me and Rafa start making our way.
“Arjay if the Time Keeper can take us over with this bolt shouldn’t we just rip it out? I uh don’t like being watched…” Rafa asks over the walkie as we step over branches in the dark. “Woah no no no” Arjay’s voice crackles from the walkie. “That thing is in there, hitched to your nervous system. When people try and rip their bolt out, it turns ‘em crazy. Or just straight up kills them.” I grimace at his words, the reality kicking in once more of our situation. “How lovely.” I say sarcastically. “Ay cara mia, that is definitely not good.” Rafa responds as we crouch under a rock formation.
“So Arjay” I ask over the walkie, “Why bother running if it’s just a matter of time?” “Not with Echo-4 on our side. He’s jamming my bolt and hopefully yours too if we can get to safety.” Arjay answers, “But what if we don’t get to safety in time, what if the Time Keeper gets to us before then?” I ask starting to get really worried. “That won’t happen. I will get you both to safety then we’ll fix this.” He answers softly over the walkie. His reassurance calms my thoughts for a moment. Rafa motions for us to keep moving forward, his suit glowing softly in the dark.
We continue on through the woods moving quietly through the dark. I continue to follow Rafa when he holds a hand out, stopping me from walking forward. Suddenly a bright search light passes in front of us, barely missing us. “That was a close one, thank you.” I whisper, “Of course no problem hermosa.” He responds softly, “Let's move.”
Moving through the bushes and foliage Arjay calls to us up ahead. “Good to see you guys made it. They’re looking for us everywhere, remember to keep a low profile.” “Yes I think we’ve noticed the big search light amigo.” Rafa quips in response with a chuckle as we kneel next to Arjay. “Right, sorry.” Arjay says with a small laugh.
Moving forward we battle dog-like creatures Arjay tells us are called Manglers. Arjay and Rafa make conversation about vaults. “So have either of you actually opened a vault?” Arjay asks. “I- uh no this is sorta a new.. Gig for me” Rafa says with an awkward chuckle. “What about you Arjay?” “I was actually born here on Kairos, I only learned of the vaults recently off of off-worlders who crashed when the moonfall chaos started. I took my chance and ventured out on my own. Been training up ever since.” “What about you?” Arjay asks, turning the attention on to me. “Oh I haven’t actually opened a vault either. I've spent years studying them though. That's why I came to Kairos. I wanted to try and open my first vault.”
“I’ll introduce you to the leader of the Crimson Resistance when we get out of here. I only joined up recently but it’s exactly what this planet needs! A whole rebellion, fighting together for freedom from the Time Keeper. And how I can’t wait to rub it in his shiny face when we crack that vault of his.” I chuckle at Arjay’s enthusiasm as he leads us towards where he said his ride is.
We track through water and down slopes leading further into the forest. When Arjay points out a building not too far away. “There, we’ll go through that order plant!” I look to where he points to see a massive building with faint glowing lights up top. “Geez” I whisper to myself as Arjay and Rafa slides down from the ledge. I look down to see Rafa holding his hand out to me, his mask glowing faintly. I take his hand as he helps me down from the ledge, feeling the warmth from his hand helps the cold I've been feeling from the night air. “Thank you" I say softly as I pass him to continue on.
The building seems much bigger as we approach it silently. “It’s awfully quiet is it not?” Rafa asks when we approach. And almost right after he speaks a ship from the order flies over to where we are causing me and Arjay to groan loudly. “Ay mierde! How was I supposed to know that would happen?” Rafa yells trying to defend himself as we begin to fight off the order. “I thought it was like a universal rule to never say that!” I yell to him over the sound of gun fire as we shoot at the order. “What are you like five? I thought that was made up! Like when people say to not step on a crack or they’ll break their mothers back.” He argues back as he reloads his gun behind cover. I duck and hide behind a box across from him to reload my pistol. I look over and glare at him “Well in this case your timing sucks.” After a few more minutes of fighting we finally get rid of all the guards.
Me and Arjay throw a look over our shoulders at Rafa who throws his hands in the air defensively. “¡Dije que lo sentía!” he angrily whisper yells. Arjay turns to start getting Echo to open the door. “Huh this wasn’t locked before. Weird.” Arjay comments “Well anyways our ride should be right behind this door!” “Thank God” I groan, ready for this day to be over.
Suddenly we hear the lock click open. “There we go! We can finally get to our ride. Maybe even pick up some of the priso- ners…” Arjay exclaims as the door opens as the door clicks open his tone falls. Inside we are met with a gruesome sight. Countless bodies are laying on the floor covered in blood. Some prisoners hold weapons in their hands on the ground others just lay lifeless with stab wounds. “What… what happened to them?” I exclaim horrified at the sight. “Oh no no… he..” Arjay whispers as he rushes forward into the room forcing me and Rafa to follow him silently. Occasionally glancing at the bodies around us. As we make it further into the room we see a lone prisoner standing looking horrified at the knife in his hand. “He made me!” The prisoner cries, dropping the knife in horror. Tears streaming down his face, he looks as if he’s to say something else. Before he suddenly stands eerily upright and a gold glow starts to emit from his eyes. He speaks again, this time his voice sounding strange like it wasn’t quite right for his body. “There was a time I might've used a gentler touch with these… Wayward creatures. Now they serve a greater purpose, now you see the true bars of your cage. There is no escape, you cannot break free.” And as soon as the voice came it was gone. The prisoner quickly brought his hands up to his head and snapped his neck. His body quickly dropping to the floor.
“What the hell.” Rafa mutters as me and Arjay stare in shock at what just happened. “He killed them. Not only that he- he forced them to kill each other and then themselves.” I say horrified. “I thought he;d march them back to their cells.” Arjay whispers “I never imagined he’d… Butcher them all.” “We need to get your bolts jammed as soon as possible!” He says speaking louder. “Echo hack the door” I stand still stunned looking at the bodies of the prisoners when I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn to see Rafa standing to my left. I nod in response, silently thanking him. The door opens and Arjay urges us forward.
“I hacked an order ship. Hopefully it's still down here. Come on, let's move.” We move quickly down the ramp towards the opening. As we make it to the opening we see the ship Arjay was talking about. I breathe a sigh of relief. “We are getting out of here!” Arjay exclaims, running towards the ship. However as soon as he gets close the ship explodes sending Arjay flying back knocking him unconscious. “ARJAY!” I yell, when suddenly the warden who captured us in the first place floats above the burning wreckage. “No one leaves!” The warden yells before starting to attack us.
“Mierde this day just keeps getting better.” Rafa exclaims, pulling out his gun. We see more guards start to teleport down. “You take care of the little guys, I'll take care of this guy.” Rafa yells at me and I nod in return. I quickly run to the left firing my pistol at the guards spawning. Using my knives when I have to reload. I hear Rafa fighting the warden to my right, taunting him every chance he gets. “You really think you can kill me? Ha!” I hear the warden ask as bullets fly. “Ay maybe, maybe not but surely it doesn’t hurt to try no?” Rafa laughs, continuing to fight. After what seems like forever we finally win.
I breathe in a sigh of relief before panic hits me again. “Arjay!” I yell running towards him as he starts to sit up. “Hey can I get a hand up?” He asks as I make my way to him. “Of course” I say as I go to help him up he suddenly speaks. “All part of my master plan” He says with a groan “This is where I betray you” he says with a serious tone before breaking into a laugh. I chuckle softly with him. “Terrible time for that joke” I say with a smile and reach out for him to take my hand. As he stands up suddenly my body doesn't feel like my own. “No no no no!” I try to exclaim but my mouth won’t move, my arm won’t let go. “Not now please not now!” I think to myself. Arjay tries to pull away but my hand wont let go. “Hey we gotta get out of here before the Time Keeper-” Arjay starts to say before I hear Rafa’s voice interrupt him. But it’s not Rafa’s voice. It's strange like when the prisoner spoke. “Too late,” he says. I try to turn my head to look but I still can't move.
“What are you- aw crap” Arjay says as he starts to realize what’s happening. “I’m always watching.” I hear Rafa’s voice say this time closer to my left. And before I can process what's happening my body moves on its own punching Arjay and sending him to the ground close to the edge. “I wanted to see how useful my new vault hunter could be in action” I hear my own voice say. Arjay groans from his place on the ground while pulling the knife from his belt. My body moves forward knocking the knife from his hand. I hear Rafa speak again, “Besides, it's more fun getting your hands dirty when they’re not your hands.” From my peripheral I can see Rafa has now crouched down on my left facing Arjay on the ground. I feel my body move forward again this time my hands go to Arjay’s throat starting to choke him. “E-Echo transfer to dual ownership.” Arjay groans.
I gasp as suddenly my body is my own again. I quickly back up and away from Arjay. Seeing Rafa do the same. “Arjay I-” I begin to say but stop myself as Arjay begins to rise slowly. “¡Ay maldición!” I hear Rafa say from somewhere to my left. “Arjay, are you ok?” I ask hesitantly. As he grabs the previously discarded knife. “Arjay?” I ask, trying to get his attention. When he finally looks at me my stomach sinks. His eyes are gold, same as the prisoners when the Time Keeper took control of him. Rafa begins to curse behind me. Arjay stands, starting to speak and gesture with his hands while his left still holds the knife. “What use is a vault hunter?” He asks in that strange voice. Before either of us could reply he answers himself. “None at all.” Arjay then shoves the knife deep into his chest.
“NO!” Rafa yells moving to Arjay. I stand shakily stunned at the scene. Arjay's mind returns to his own but it’s too late the damage is already done. As he looks down at the knife in his chest he briefly looks up before his body collapses to the ground. Behind him from the ledge three order ships rise and their weapons lock on the ground beneath me and Rafa. I go to move but it's too late. The ships fire, sending us to the water.
A/n part 2: Hope you guys like it. If not, I am so sorry. Dividers are by cursed-carmine. Comments are appreciated! If you guys do like it should I continue?
Ok so I’ve not seen narcos Mexico which is basically a sin at this point but I am obsessed with Rafa!!! So he’s obviously such a soft sweet lil baby boy so I was thinking what if he met a woman who was strong and sassy and also into *cough cough* gardening *cough* and he just melts for her but she’s a hard to get maybe cos they’re rivals and she has a reputation to uphold being a strong independent woman ??? Maybe some smut with them giving into the attraction ??? Idk I’m just excited I want to keep requesting stuff cos I love your writing. Also I think the power dynamic would be such a twist cos tenoch/namor just scream daddy to me but Rafa screams soft sub baby with a big old praise kink amongst other kinks 😂
Oh rafa is our baby and definitely wants to be used.
Summary: Rafa loved women. Rafa loved weed. Now he found a woman who loves weed just like he does. And he is immediately down bad
disclaimer: I smoke, I have no idea how it's grown. so I'm making shit up.
drug use, fluff, smut.
"Comportarse," Felix shot at Rafa as the door to his office opened. Rafa smirked at him and lit his blunt. Felix had said he was meeting with a supplier who insisted on being seen. Rafa was certain who ever this pendejo was, that their weed couldn't hold a candle to his, but he had shown up because Felix had asked. But if the guy said the wrong thing then he'd shoot him, but Felix didn't need to know that.
When the first man walked through the door, Felix stood to shake his hand but he refused, "Yo no soy el que estás esperando. Es ella."
The henchman stepped aside as the real guest arrived. Rafa and Felix watched you walk in the door. Felix schooled his surprise and greeted you cordially. Rafa on the other hand was instantaneously smitten. You weren't dressed to the nines like Sofia and her like. Instead you wore jeans that hugged your curves, worn in boots, and a loose button down that had the sleeves rolled up. You hair was braided back but had little bits of frizz from the humidity. You were beautiful.
Rafa didn't hear a word as you and Felix talked. He was wondering why Felix hadn't introduced him. He was wondering why you were ignoring him, you hadn't even spared him a glance. The narco heard the words "Es una nueva variedad de marihuana."
That wasn't possible, no one had made a new strain except him, at least there in Mexico. Felix looked angry, not used to a woman being so frank and aggressive with him. You slammed a paper on the table, pointing out numbers that Rafa didn't care to understand.
"The system you built is a monopoly! You ruined the livelihood of my field, pendejo. No one will work with me because you supposedly have the best in the market. But mine is better," You screeched at the slick leader.
"You're pretty confident for such an insolent witch," Felix shot back, he pointed at Rafa, "His work is better than anyone's and I bet my life and this entire business on that. You can't compete so don't try."
Rafa's eyes were wide when you turned and glared at him. You whipped your head back to Felix, "What this joto? I'm supposed to believe he has any smarts in that rat's nest of hair?"
For some reason that set Felix off and he stood and raised his hand to slap her. Rafa moved on instinct, pointing his gun and cocking it at Felix. Felix was stunned out of his anger, "Qué chingados?"
Realizing what he had just done he pointed the gun at you, "Vete a la chingada."
You smirked at him then turned to Felix, "You've got some real idiots working for you."
"Pinche pendejo," Felix growled at Rafa then sat back down in his seat. Rafa followed, trying to hide his embarrassment. He focused on the blunt that he had let burn down half way without taking enough hits. He resigned himself to getting higher and examining your curves and the confident smirk on your face. When you got up and left the room, Felix turned around and smacked Rafa hard against the side of his head.
"What the hell is wrong with you cabron? She was talking shit and you pull a gun on me?" Felix looked incredulous.
"Who was that, Felix? How come you didn't introduce me? When is she coming back?" Rafa rattled off, jumping up from his seat on the couch.
"No mames, guey. Already? She didn't even look at you," Felix shook his head, of course Rafa the lover boy was thinking with his dick.
Before Felix could stop him, Rafa ran out of the office and tried to beat you to the lobby. But when he got there he was just barely able to see you being driven off in a pick up truck.
...
"The only reason you're here is because I want to knock her down a peg or two. She's arrogant and needs us to show her that. Other cartels would not be so nice after she came in here acting like a maldita bruja," Felix explained as he paced with a cigarette in his mouth.
"There's no way she has anything worth anything, but I'd like to make sure she knows that," Rafa said, feigning interest in the business side of things.
"Don't fuck around, Rafa," Felix grasped him by the back of his neck, "She's young, but she's smart. We can use her later so don't scare her off."
The doors opened and you were once more preceded by your henchman. Once again you were dressed casually, and you took a seat across from Felix. You noticed Rafa standing behind Felix, but didn't greet him. "You want to make a deal or not?"
"I don't need your weed. But I might need those ideas you have. I had Rafa look over them and he thinks they are promising but so far unproven," Felix explained, gesturing to the narco behind him. You noticed the hungry look from Rafa, and smirked. He was an easy book to read.
"I can prove them, just give me time and financial support. There will be a more potent strain ready for the market in a year," You replied confidently.
"We will see. You will go with Rafa to our field. For security you have to be blind folded once you get to a certain point. Rafa will be able to tell me if you're the real deal or not. If you're not then I suggest you back out of this business before you get killed. If you are then we may have use for you. This is your only chance, chiquita. Make use of it," Felix finished with such a sense of foreboding that you weren't sure how to reply. He stood and buttoned his suit jacket, "If you'll excuse me I have a comandante to talk to. Rafa, take care of her."
Then the lead narco was out the door to deal with supposedly more important duties. You eyed Rafa, taking in his open shirt, flamboyant fashion sense, and fluffy hair. He was kind of cute in an arrogant idiot kind of way. You reached your hand out to him to properly introduce yourself. He smiled at you and kissed your hand, "Hola, Rafael Caro Quintero. La princesa me puede llamar Rafa."
His smile was unbelievably charming and you couldn't help but laugh at how obviously attracted he was to you, "Well Rafa, take me to this so called 'best of the best' marijuana."
...
Rafa personally drove you to the field. On the way there he was explaining his process and asking you questions about your own. The chemistry was palpable as you finished each others sentences. You talked about similar experiments and different ideas you both had to create different strains and up the potency.
It was hot and the both of you were laughing and sweating. You had to admit, the man knew his weed. His dark skin looked delicious in the bright sun and the trickle of sweat down his neck was distracting. You noticed him pull the car off the side of the road then reach into the back for a strip of thick cloth.
"It's time then?" You asked, knowing that secrecy was important.
"Turn around, princesa, I'll put it on for you," Rafa said, looking apologetic. The already long drive had allowed you to bond over your shared interest.
"Don't tie it too tight," You requested as you turned your back to him.
"I'll be gentle," Rafa whispered, making a shiver run down your neck. His hands were warm as he moved your hair out of the way and gently placed the cloth over your eyes and knotted it behind your head. His hands rested for a moment on your shoulders and all you could hear was him taking a deep breath. "You can turn around now."
You did just that, reaching out blindly to face the front of the car again. Rafa took your wrist, making you jerk. "Calmate, I just want to show you where the middle is so you know where you're facing."
Rafa placed your hand at the edge of your seat, touching the middle console. It took you a moment to get comfortable with the loss of sight as the narco started the car and continued the journey to the fields.
After a moment of silence you spoke, "Don't kill me in the middle of the desert, please. At least not before I come up with that strain I told you about."
That made Rafa laugh. The sound was warm and infectious. You felt him take your hand, "No, hermosa, no one will touch you. It's been a long time since I've met someone who knew weed the way I do."
You were surprised at the affection, and even more surprised that you welcomed it. But you felt the same. Especially as a woman, you had never felt understood by anyone about your affinity for the plant, until now. This flashy narco was matching you move for move, and it was exciting.
...
Rafa told you to keep the blindfold on as he guided you to the actual field after he had parked the car. It didn't escape you that this felt more like a romantic surprise rather than a test of skills. You could hear the sounds of workers, and from the breeze you were definitely on flat lands. The smell of the fresh plant was in the air, and to the side you could tell there were kilos of it drying for transport.
Rafa guided you gently and then placed your hands on what you immediately knew to be a large marijuana plant. You immediately stepped forward and pushed your noise into the buds. There was silence as you took it in, already coming up with information at a mile a minute.
"What can you tell me?" Rafa asked. Then you were off, talking about the notes, the potency, the maturity and when it would be ready to harvest. There was silence and you hesitated.
"Rafa," You worried about bruising his ego, but reminded yourself this was a test, "There's something wrong with this one. Everything is fine except there's a weird syrup smell at the end. Something too sweet. It would smell awful once you burn it."
You felt him approach you and you immediately went into a defensive stance.
"I'm not going to hurt you, princesa. I'm just going to untie the blindfold," Rafa's voice was amused.
When you opened your eyes it was too bright to see. You shielded your eyes waiting for them to adjust. Eventually you could make out Rafa's smiling face. "So how did I do?"
"Eres brillante!" Rafa exclaimed, "I test all my men this way. All of them and you were the only one to catch the mistake. I purposely have those three plants that are no good. No one has caught it yet, but you."
You fought the urge to smile, "Well of course. I told you. I know what I'm doing."
You glanced behind him, taking in the watch tower and different sheds. The irrigation system and the people working and roaming. You realized that the field must be behind you.
"You can look, princesa, I think you'll like what you see," Rafa said as he guided you to turn around.
You felt your eyes grow wide as you took in the sheer size. You stepped back as you tried to take in the full scope. But it went off in all directions, as far as the eye could see. It was beautiful.
"Rafa," You turned to the man smiling at you, "This is insane. Incredible. How many acres? How many plants? What's the yield? Do you have then maturing progressively or all at once? How many kilos are you putting out?"
"Slow down, princesa. Would you like to see more of it?" Rafa asked. You nodded, unable to hide your glee. You didn't care about appearing tough or strong. This was your 'kid in a candy store' moment. Rafa took your hand and led you into the fields.
Hours went by as you walked the fields, ignoring the heat or the fact that you were walking around with someone who should be a rival. Instead you were having the time of your life. His system was pretty self sustaining but you were able to make suggested that made his eyes light up and his laugh explode. Rafa was growing on you like a literally weed.
...
The next day Rafa reported back to Felix, singing your praises.
"You should have seen it, cabron! She knew exactly what was wrong with it. She figured out the irrigation issue I had for months. I have never met anyone who could understand the nuances and delicacy of those plants," Rafa was giddy and Felix was amused.
"So I should back her?" Felix asked, although he figured he knew the answer.
"No," Rafa said, a smirk on his face. "No, whatever she comes up with won't work without the space and work I have already done. She's mine. Buy her out and she will work on the fields with me. Give her whatever she asks, but make sure she works with me, and no one else."
The possessiveness didn't surprise Felix, it was to be expected of the narco who fell fast and hard to the point of lunacy. "She's not going to like that, Rafa. You ready for her to fight you on that?"
"She'll come to me. Remember Felix, as long as her people are taken care of, then all she'll want to do is work on the weed," Rafa said, taking a long draw from his blunt.
"Tomorrow, I'll buy her out. But I want that new strain in 10 months not a year, Rafa. I need it before anyone else comes up with something better," Felix reminded him.
"No one has ever come up with anything better than me. But this, if we work together. This will be our masterpiece," Rafa had a faraway look on his smug face making Felix shake his head.
"Just make sure it's on the market by my deadline. I don't care if you fuck her with it. Make it happen," Felix dismissed Rafa.
...
"You're an ass," You immediately punched Rafa as hard as you could in the stomach. You had been dropped off at his mansion with the orders to stick to him like glue or be killed by Felix himself. "I would have been fine working with you but having that bastard leash me to you is not an attractive arrangement, pendejo."
Rafa waved off Chapo and Cuco who were ready to shoot you for attacking their boss. The narco in question was dressed as usual and laughing. "Your family is taken care of right? That was the most important thing, now the next important thing is working on that strain."
He came up to you and grabbed your jaw, "Together, we can do that. Together, we can do a lot of things."
You hated that you were turned on, "You shouldn't have forced me, Rafa. I don't like being forced."
"Then you can leave if you want. We can work on it together but you don't need to stay, I won't force you," Rafa challenged, his voice soft as he spoke close to you. The smoke from his mouth surrounding you was heady. He released your jaw, "Chapo, take her back."
Rafa turned but you called out, "Rafa. Shut up, pendejo, you know I'm going to stay."
You grabbed your bag and brushed past him into the sprawling mansion. You heard him laugh as he rushed to catch up to you and show you your room. You found it difficult to keep your surly attitude in the face of his excited ramblings.
...
It took 6 months to get the strain perfected and by the end of the 10 month deadline it was debuted. The mansion was partying and high as a kite. Debauchery was everywhere and the handles of liquor and packs of cocaine that Felix had sent as congratulations were being parsed out to the party goers.
You had no interest in partying with the boys and their sluts. You were up on your balcony, watching the pool from above. The band was loud and the people louder. There were people swimming naked in the pool, the area stank of weed, and you could see Neto and Cuco snorting lines through a window.
You didn't like coke, didn't like how fast it made your heart beat and your mind move. You preferred the mellow relaxation that the right strain of weed gave you. You crossed that with tequila and you were floating in your own little world, with a smile on your face.
The last 10 months had been invigorating. Working with Rafa was like working with a ball of pure energy. He was far more intelligent than he let on, reserving it for his treasured plants. You had met your match in that field. Someone you could genuinely bounce ideas off of and experiment with. He was charming, funny, and caring to a fault.
You were surprised he hadn't made a move, but you suspected that Felix had something to do with that. Maybe a threat about the deadline and not fucking around. It was disappointing and frustrating.
Rafa was fucking around, just with some rich chick named Sofia who rubbed you the wrong way and made you want to shoot her through the eyes. But she hadn't been around in the last few months, and Rafa had been ranting about how much of a spoiled bitch she was. You hadn't seen her at the party and were more than thankful that you didn't have to fight the urge to vomit if she had arrived.
There was a knock at your bedroom door and you called for them to come in. It was Rafa. He stood in the middle of your room apprehensive. In his hands he held a handle of tequila and two glasses. "Ay guey. I was going to invite you to share a drink with me."
You looked at the soft expression and could tell he hadn't had any coke. He hadn't since Sofia had left. At most he was high from his own plant and looking to get crossed like you. You looked at him, all of him. Rafa's hair was perfectly fluffy, jewelry draped on his dark skin, and wearing a silk shirt that was open too low. You felt heat pool between your legs.
For months you had been touching yourself to the thought of him. You had laid jealous in your bed when you knew he was with Sofia. And now here he was looking pathetic and ready to be eaten. He'd made you wait long enough.
"Rafa, is Sofia gone for good?" You asked as you walked back into the room and closed the balcony doors. You held your own handle of unfinished tequila and swung it lazily in your hand.
Rafa scoffed at the question, "That bitch is dead to me. Has been for months."
You could see him watching you. His eyes roved your body and there was a hungry look in them. You were wearing a silk robe, a gift from him a few months ago on your birthday. There was nothing underneath it.
"Is that why you wanted to have a drink with me? Because she's not around anymore?" You asked, taking a swig from your handle.
"What? No. I don't care about her. This celebration is for us. We did what we planned and now we are going to be richer and so far above any competitor that they will never reach us. This is all thanks to you," Rafa said, looking actually offended that you suggested otherwise.
You smiled at him then. The high was making you reckless, and the alcohol was making you hot. But the way Rafa looked at you was making you wet. You took another swig from our handle and approached Rafa. You locked eyes with him and put your hand on his chest.
His breathing quickened as you pushed him to sit on the end of your bed. You gripped his jaw, ran your thumb across his bottom lip, coaxing his mouth open. With one more glance at him, you spit the tequila into his mouth slowly, and he drank it. You locked eyes as he took the last drop and then you grabbed his hair and kissed him roughly.
Rafa whimpered into the kiss as you wrapped a hand around his throat and devoured him. His kisses were as intoxicating as the tequila. Months of unanswered desire came flooding out as he pulled you to him and thrust his tongue into your mouth. He tasted of the weed you had both spent months working on together.
The hours and days spent together had left you wanting more from him. But at every turn, at every lingering touch, and held glance he pulled away from you. He had always hesitated but in the end would put space between you. Your frustration at the memory got the better of you and you found his jaw again and pushed him away.
"You're such an idiot you know that? You could have had me naked in your bed for months. You could have had me on my knees or across your lap, but you kept pulling away, like you hadn't thought about it since the day I walked into Felix's office and you lost the ability to breathe," You blurted out. You regretted it, not wanting him to know just how desperate you had been.
But Rafa's gaze softened, his grip around your waist tightened, "Felix told me not to fuck around with you. Not until the strain was ready. The only reason I was with Sofia again was because I needed a release because I couldn't have you. Sofia left me because I called out your name the last time we fucked."
It took you a moment to take in what he said, then you laughed. Laughter fueled by your high and the alcohol. "You brat, you called out my name while you fucked her? No wonder she was so mad."
"It's the only way I could get off. I had to think about you, imagine I was inside your wet pussy," His vulgar admission was met with another desperate kiss from you. You pulled moans from him as your hand travelled downward and palmed his hard on. When you were satisfied that he was as needy as you felt you pulled away.
"Get naked, Rafa. Let's see if all that fucking I heard was as good as it sounded, or if that Sofia bitch was just a good actor," You jabbed, as you untied the robe and dropped it to the floor.
Rafa stopped for a moment with his shirt in his hands as he finally laid eyes on your naked form. He completely lost any comeback he had in mind as he took in the sight of your supple skin and curves. "Te ves deliciosa."
You got impatient and placed a palm on his chest. You pushed him on to the bed then went to work at removing his boots and jeans. When his cock was out and weeping you fought the urge to take it into your mouth. That was for another time. This was about you getting yours. You looked at Rafa as you lay next to him, stroking his cock playfully.
"Rafa, you need to make up for leaving me so wet all the time," You purred into his ear before sucking on his earlobe. He moaned softly and nodded. "How are you gonna do that, baby boy?"
He didn't even react to the name, just looked at you with eyes that begged to be bossed around, "Whatever you want, princesa?"
"Are you going to make me ride you or are you going to fuck me into this bed until I cum onto your cock a few times?" You asked, tracing circled along his chest, leaving his weeping cock unattended. You were fighting the urge to straddle him and slide him inside you.
"Yes, princesa," He replied, as a whimper escaped his lips as you tongued his nipple impulsively. You'd been dying to do that since the first time you had seen him with his shirt hanging open.
"Fuck me, Rafa. Be a good boy and make me cum," You moaned softly as you guided his hand to your wet cunt.
Rafa let out a feral noise once he felt just how wet you were. In a swift move you were beneath him, hands pinned above your head, and his cock pushing into your pussy. You arched against him, "Yes, baby, just like that."
He thrust into your center, hard and deep. You knew he was going to be thick but you were surprised by how deeply he thrust into you. You saw stars after months of pining. This man was a drug of his own and you knew you were going to become addicted. His lips found yours again and he allowed you to wrap your arms around his shoulders. Rafa angled your hips, wrapping your legs around him as he pounded into you.
Your first orgasm came so fast you couldn't even warn him. Your nerve endings were exploding with pleasure as he kissed and fucked and sucked every part of you. Your hands found his hair and pulled at it, making him moan into your lips. You kept your foreheads together as you encouraged him, "Yes, Rafa. You're fucking me so good. You like how my pussy feels don't you? Is this what you were imagining when you fucked that bitch? I bet you never fucked her like this."
The adoration in Rafa's eyes only grew with each word you spoke. Something about your words spurred him on. He leaned back and rubbed your clit with his thumb as he continued thrusting into your dripping wet pussy. Even his grunts sounded soft and needy. You reached forward and tweaked your own nipples. The sight made him throw his head back in ecstasy.
"Princesa, eres tan perfecta," Rafa moaned as you clenched down on him with your second orgasm. This time you felt yourself squirt a little and he did to. He fucked you even faster as you came.
You were panting now, sure that Rafa was close. But he proved you wrong and flipped you over onto your stomach. The narco gripped your hips and thrust into you, impossibly deeper than before. You grabbed at the bed sheets as the room filled with the loud slap of his hips against your round ass. "Fuck, Rafa. You're so deep, you're gonna make me cum again aren't you? You really want to please me don't you?"
Between grunts of exertion he replied, "Yes, princesa, I'll make you cum again."
He sucked and licked your shoulder and neck before biting down and lifting your hips higher so he could thrust at a different angle. Rafa didn't let up as he continued his pounding rhythm. His arm came around to put you in a loose headlock. "Cum for me, Princesa. Milk me dry."
You sobbed as you came, the pleasure so overwhelming you would have thought you blacked out but you still felt the stuttering of Rafa's hips as he filled your pussy with his cum. Both of you were out of breath, the room smelled of sex and weed, and you both started giggling.
Rafa broke down next to you, giggling as he pulled you into his side, placing fluttering kisses all over your face between breaths. You also giggled, high on pleasure, weed, and Rafa.
"You're mine now, Rafa," You spoke against his lips.
Summary: (Y/n) and Barba are in a relationship and are working on a tough case. When they are in court, a fight and chaos soon breaks out.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What's taking so long?"
(Y/n) cast her eyes over to Nick who was taking to pacing up and down in front of the doors to the court room. His quiet grumble had been heard by them all but no one gave him a response. They could all feel his worry radiating off of him and mingling with their own, this was a high priority case and without it being hard enough, their star witness had just been taken to hospital.
"Barba's trying to get a continuance, the judge won't take it lightly." Olivia leaned her head to the side as she folded her arms over her chest.
They all knew Rafael had tricks up his sleeves and he had a very direct yet sarcastic way about him that was hard to resist or say no to. (Y/n) knew her ADA would be pulling out all the stops to make sure that this trial didn't go down the plug and that they could still have a chance of winning. But that didn't stop (Y/n) from biting her thumb in panic as she leaned her shoulders back against the wall and tipped her head down.
Their star witness in this murder trial had been fine for three weeks leading up to this trial. (Y/n) had spent almost every day with her, Rafael had been with her in his chamber going over and over her story to make sure there were no inconsistences and coaching her of what to say when questioned by the defence. Everything was going great, but her nerves had gotten to her and she had drank too much.
She was having her stomach pumped at the hospital and if all went well she could be on the stand by as early as tomorrow afternoon. But Rafael needed to convince the judge to give them a continuance so the trial could still go ahead and their witness could appear tomorrow instead of today.
"So?" Nick clutched his hands on his hips and sped over to the rest of his colleagues when he saw Barba walking down the corridor advancing towards them.
Rafael had his usual confidence expression on, one hand was tucked into his trouser pocket and his other hand held his briefcase. (Y/n) watched the way he advanced over to them, he wasn't hurrying with the haste of needing to prepare a plan B and he wasn't frowning or biting his lower lip which meant he must have gotten what he wanted.
"We didn't get a continuance, but Tina can appear on the stand tomorrow instead. The trial moves forward, (Y/n) and Olivia will be on the stand today instead of tomorrow, we're all good."
Rafael turned his head in (Y/n)'s direction, a certain look in his eye to silently ask his lover if she was okay with that. He knew better than anyone that (Y/n) didn't like to be questioned formally like this and he had seen her the last time she had been on the stand. Someone pointing a gun at her didn't terrify her as much as being on the stand had done, it sent her panic through the roof.
He watched closely as (Y/n) nodded her head but didn't say a word, keeping her eyes glued on the floor to try and calm herself down.
(Y/n) wasn't afraid of suspects, she had a gun strapped to her hip for security and added intimidation, she had her colleagues with her and there was little a suspect could do to harm her unless she was undercover.
But Rafael knew that the suspect in this case had her rattled because he had tried to strangle (Y/n) when she stopped him from attacking their witness. For her to take the stand and tell the court he had done that, added to the facts they knew when they had arrested him and what they knew of him, (Y/n) was all but condemning him and he would be there to watch. Confrontation wasn't (Y/n)'s strong point if it involved her, if she was simply a cop confronting a killer it was fine. But explaining her own actions and thoughts made her feel vulnerable.
"You'll be fine, you'll be answering my questions first just as we talked about." Rafael tipped his head down and his brows rose to silently ask if (Y/n) understood and to make sure she knew she didn't have to panic about this.
He could see the look in her eye that made his heart yearn for him to reach out and wrap his arms around her and tuck her into his chest and to take her far away from this mess, back home where they had hardly been these past three weeks. But he couldn't whisk her away, nor could he do that kind of public affection right now when everyone was starting to pile into the courtroom.
It was no secret to the detectives that (Y/n) and Rafael were in a relationship but if people knew and then watched him question her they would be whispering about how professional it was even though he was allowed to question her.
So instead, Rafael settled for cradling the back of (Y/n)'s head and kissing her temple for a brief second before he slowly untangled himself from her. He would have to go into the courtroom soon and set up ready for the case to start up fresh again today.
(Y/n) could feel her nerves going haywire but she tried to swallow them down and forget them for now. Her eyes scattered around the busy hallway but her eyes soon latched onto a figure she was dreading to see.
Liam.
The defendant who had somehow got himself out on bail and was allowed to stalk the streets looking for another victim to snatch. Of course he was going to be here today but he should have been here earlier and the look on his face told (Y/n) what she had dreaded. He knew Tina wasn't showing up today.
They had all hoped that they could keep him from finding out so that when she didn't turn up as a witness he would be confused. Tina was on 24 hour surveillance to keep her safe so Liam couldn't intimidate her but he tried his luck wherever he could and they knew he would try today to find her.
(Y/n)'s eyes locked with Olivia who seemed to be thinking the same thing, for she made a beeline for their other witness and made quick work of ushering her into the courtroom so she couldn't be intimidated.
Spinning on her heels, (Y/n) moved the bottom of her jacket to make easy access for her gun in case she had to be prepared for him to start a fight. Her heart pounded in her ears as she advanced down the corridor towards the man who was coming at her like a train. His hands were clenched at his sides, his face bursting red from the blood pumping underneath his skin and his pupils were blown wide from adrenaline.
"Where is she?!"
"Mr Casey you need to calm down and go into the courtroom the trial will be starting in five minutes."
"Where is she, my Lawyer just told me she isn't here today. Where is the bitch?"
His eyes were rabid like those of a madman, constantly diverting from one angle to another trying to look through all the onlookers and find Tina in the sea of faces to confront her and scare her away from testifying.
"If you don't calm down you'll be escorted out. She isn't on the schedule for today-"
"Bullshit, what's wrong, has she recanted?" The look in his eyes was like a dark glimmer passing over his pupils, it was like he had just gotten exactly what he wanted if that question turned out to be true. He had done his best to intimidate Tina into backing away and he had strangled (Y/n) when he knew he was helping Tina and pushing her to do this.
They all knew that if Tina didn't make her statement in court then the case would eventually fall apart and Liam would be a free man allowed to commit more crimes because he knew he could bend anyone to his will.
"Tina is rescheduled for tomorrow, that's all."
(Y/n) took a calculated step back and hovered her hand over her holster, her head ticking to the side to warn Liam she was going to pull the weapon on him if he got worse. His voice was raising and full of anger and his hands were balled into fists, he wouldn't care if he had witnesses around him seeing him attack (Y/n) or anyone else, he would do it if he was angry enough.
"No, I've told that bitch more than enough times she isn't testifying and you're not covering for her and making her either. Get out the fucking way and tell her she's done for."
Liam's hand swiftly reached out and pushed at (Y/n)'s right shoulder shoving her back a step before she regained her balance.
"You need to leave. Security."
(Y/n) waved her hand around for the security guards near the entrance to the courthouse to come and help. She wasn't having him going in like this because he would cause a scene and they didn't need that today on top of everything else. There had been many times during this trial that Liam had been told to leave and they had recess because he couldn't control his temper which the Jury had seen first-hand.
"Shit!"
A round of curse words left Rafael's lips the moment his head turned just as he was about to enter the courtroom. His eyes latched onto the back of (Y/n)'s figure before his hand let go of the door and his briefcase was dropped at his side, his feet skidding on the polished floor as he bolted.
His eyes focused on (Y/n) but his ears focused on Nick's voice who was hurrying along with him, shouting threats at Liam to stop what he was doing.
Just as Rafael got towards the pair, Liam swung out at (Y/n), effectively knocking her backwards until she collided with the bench behind her and tumbled down to the floor.
Nick made quick work of tackling Liam to the ground along with the security guards who approached the scene as Rafael focused his attention on (Y/n). His knees harshly thumped against the hard marble floor but his hands delicately moved to cradle (Y/n)'s face, his thumbs brushing against her flushed cheeks as he felt breathless.
"Querido? Querido, you with me?" He tilted her head back a little, feeling relief washing through him when he saw her eyes flicker open, tremoring side to side as she tried to focus on looking at him.
"Hmm, I- I'm alright, just winded."
Pushing her head forward, (Y/n) rested her temple against Rafael's shoulder and clamped her shaking hands down on his wrists to comfort and steady herself. She could feel him kissing her temple and she could hear his heart beating horribly fast causing him to shake too.
"I'll go talk to the judge, get a continuance-"
"No, no Raf I'm okay, we can't risk losing this case." (Y/n) knew she didn't sound very convincing and she was rather breathless but once she caught her breath back she would be okay. There wasn't a lot of questions she and Olivia had to ask anyway, once they were done it was over for today. They weren't losing this case and they weren't postponing it if they didn't have to either.
"You promise me you're okay?" The tone he used reminded (Y/n) of how he spoke to their victims or witnesses when asking them something they couldn't dare lie about. But it was the look in his eye that made her insides melt and set alight at the same time.
The moment she nodded, Rafael pressed another kiss to her temple before he moved into a crouching position, holding his hands out so he could help her to her feet. (Y/n) felt him tense the moment they stood up and she took in a sharp breath to stop from making a sound of pain. His arm wound around her waist like an iron bar as a sign that she needed to tell him if she wasn't okay but (Y/n) just patted his chest. She was okay.
The air had been knocked out of (Y/n) when her side collided against the arm of the bench. Her lungs had become paralysed before suddenly restarting again and it made her chest tight and her lungs burn for oxygen but she was okay. If she needed to she would get checked out after court, (Y/n) was no strangers to bruises and her ribs felt bruised.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"My next witness is (Y/n) (Y/l/n)."
Rafael's voice sounded so quiet and distant in (Y/n)'s ears but when she took a very deep but painful breath, she could feel herself coming back to reality. She lifted her head and tried to blink through the foggy feeling that had been building up since the confrontation with Liam outside the room.
(Y/n) had been thankful to both Rafael and Olivia for deciding that Olivia would be his first witness called so that (Y/n) could have a little while to calm down and prepare herself before she was called up. But now she was wishing she had gone first and got it out the way. Her chest was tightening to the point she felt like her lungs were going to pop and her head was pounding like a drum.
But she couldn't go back on her words now and ask the judge if she could testify at another time so she could get checked. She had said she was fine so she would have to give her testimony and then go to the hospital. Besides, she would be able to see Tina and tell her how things were progressing if she went after she answered the questions.
She could feel Nick's hand resting on her elbow to steady her when she stood up and tried to compose herself, ignoring the shivers running up and down her spine as she focused on walking over to her counsellor.
(Y/n) could feel her skin prickling with heat as she slowly and unsteadily advanced towards where Rafael was stood beside his desk. She couldn't see the worry in his eyes as he watched her, knowing something was deeply wrong from how disorientated his partner looked as if she had been drugged or she was sleep-walking to him.
Rafael tipped his head to the side as his eyes narrowed on his beloved. His lips parted to let out a small whisper to ask if she was okay but the words never got past his lips before a grunt replaced them. The moment he saw (Y/n)'s eyes start to roll back and her footing stuttered, his legs moved of their own accord.
His body jumped in front of (Y/n)'s path and as she fell forward, her head crashed onto his chest, bouncing back and then resting on his chest before the rest of her body and weight was thrown onto Rafael. His arms clutched to her waist and he went back a few steps to steady himself and he was suddenly shouting for help.
His right hand moved to cradle the back of (Y/n)'s head before he bent his knees and slowly lowered himself down to the floor, easing (Y/n) down until she was sprawled across his lap.
A string of curse words in Spanish left Rafael's lips before he looked across at Olivia who was already on her radio to get an ambulance to them.
"Querido, mi amour... open your eyes." Rafael smoothed his thumb over (Y/n)'s cheek, noticing how her eyes were moving behind her eyelids showing she was somewhat partly conscious in his arms. He knew he should have made her to and get checked out, he saw the way she collided with the bench and then tumbled down to the floor and Rafael heard the way she breathed when she stood up. But everyone was so anxious to get this case finished and won that they both ignored her pain and carried on.
It felt like seconds had ticked by rather than minutes whilst Rafael knelt cradling (Y/n) in his arms, a soft expression on his face as he continued to bring her round and keep her awake, whispering to her as the court was adjourned and evacuated except for them and Olivia and Nick.
Rafael wasn't as panicked as Olivia thought he would be in a situation like this considering she had seen the way he bolted for (Y/n) earlier and let his vulnerable side show. But then again, (Y/n) was awake and though her breathing was harsh and laboured, she was still breathing okay and her pulse wasn't drastic.
(Y/n) was barely coherent nor properly conscious but she could hear the paramedic at her side saying she had broken some ribs and she had some trauma to her lung. She could see the look her lover was giving her, Rafael had one eyebrow cocked up and he was biting the corner of his lips that were tightly pressed together. That told her that her condition clearly wasn't too bad or drastic.
She was still in Rafael's arms so she let her mind wander as he spoke to the paramedic, as long as she was in his arms she was safe.
"Her chest cavity is clear, there's no blood or air trapped, she probably has trauma to her lung. An x-ray to be sure and get her checked out and she should be fine with some painkillers."
(Y/n) wasn't unconscious, she was still breathing and her lungs were clear as was her chest which meant nothing serious had happened. If she had an x-ray to make sure her lungs were clear and got checked over she would be fine. The shock of hitting the bench may have just rattled her chest and lungs and sent shock through her system.
Rafael nodded, relief surging through his veins and when he looked down at (Y/n) in his arms, their eyes locked for a few long, loving seconds. His lips twitched into a small smile merging with a smirk and (Y/n) could see he was about to shake his head at her before he leaned down and hovered his lips against her ear.
"We're gonna get you checked out first, but we will be talking about this when we get home, Querido."

a/n : here is a self-indulgent Rafa Pov for @narcolini and I (and all the Rafa babes out there) ❤ Nightcall is also the name of a London Grammar song and it slaps and it's underrated
As always it's the fictional, not the real deal, enjoy xx
It is dark outside when Rafa opens his eyes. He’s not sure what is pulling him out of his sleep, but the silk sheets around him are disorienting. He knows he’s home, there is no doubt in his mind, but still, the way his sweat clings to his body, sticking the sheets to his naked legs, bringing back memories of the nightmare he was having mere seconds ago, it all makes him wonder if he’s really awake. It’s the second ring that grounds him, shakes him to the core, makes his heart skip a beat. By the third ring, he’s already on his feet. His chains are cold on his chest, a harsh contrast against his heated skin.
No one ever calls him in the middle of the night, they always know better. Fix it by yourselves, pendejos, or make sure it can wait until morning. He’s not sure if he should be angry, he’s still so damn tired and his eyes hurt. His palms are digging in his eyesockets when it rings a fourth time. He picks it up, the movement so fast that the wire tenses, almost pulling the phone off the nightstand.
‘’ Rafa? ‘’
It’s you. Your voice sounds far away, a whisper almost lost in the buzzing of the line, but it’s you. He says your name back in disbelief, it's almost a question. He hates how his voice sounds, hoarse, raspy.
‘’ Rafa, dios, I- ‘’
There’s rustling on the other side as if you’re readjusting the phone between your ear and your shoulder, ‘’ I didn’t want to call you so late. Fuck, I didn’t want to call you at all, but I- ‘’
You take a deep breath and he can hear how it gets caught in your throat, shaking on the way out. He knows he should say something, but he feels lightheaded, glued to the floor, like all air has been sucked out of him. He can barely hear you against the sound of his heart echoing back to him through the plastic receiver.
‘’ Are you alright? ‘’
It’s the only words he can muster, pulled out of him before he can even process them. God, it’s you, he can’t believe it. But the carpet under his toes feels real and the breeze coming in from the window makes him shiver. He starts to believe he dreamed it all when you don’t answer him, when the line goes back to being silent. He had stopped dreaming about you after a while, back when your paths had separated, when he had told himself he didn’t need to be distracted by this, by you.
‘’ No? ‘’ It sounds like a question, but it’s hesitant like you’re waiting for him to tell you the answer. ‘’ I mean, yes, but- I- damn it. ‘’
Something clashes on the other side, plastic being cracked, being hit. He knows it’s your doing and he realizes you’re calling him from a payphone. Rafa can see it clear as day, your hand hitting the transparent window, putting your anger on something, anything.
‘’ This was a mistake. I’m sorry for waking you up. ‘’
This stirs something in him. Fear, desperation. You can’t hang up now, not after all this time.
‘’ Don’t. ‘’ He is gripping the phone so hard, he can feel the plastic wince at the strength. ‘’ Tell me what’s wrong. Don’t hang up. I can fix it. ‘’
Fix it, fix this, us. Rafa can hear you breathing on the other side, the rain hitting his window on his right, pouring out on the balcony. He tries again, ‘’ Tell me what happened. ‘’
He hears you shuffling once more and then it’s the sound of coins moving around, hair brushing the receiver.
‘’ Let me- ‘’ A car is passing by, splashing water around. You sniff, ‘’ Let me put more money in this thing, okay? ‘’
He doesn’t like how defeated your voice sounds, how tired it is. Every peso that he hears cling against the metal is torture for him. He had never been a patient man, he’s been told that a lot, he doesn’t care.
‘’ I’ve been doing business con El Golfo, yeah? ‘’
He knows, of course, he knows about you and Ábrego. He couldn’t stop himself from sending someone to sneak around, to pay good money to know your whereabouts. Rafa didn’t believe you, back then, when you had told him you were calling it quits. He had expected you to ease into the coke business as he did, coming back a week or two later, begging for him to let you in again. He would’ve, but you never came back around, not this time.
‘’ We moved around products for them tonight. I think they betrayed me, everyone’s- ‘’
He can hear you swallow. He can see you leaning forward, pinching the bridge of your nose. Your voice quivers.
‘’ Everyone’s dead. I think. Whatever they paid the police, it was good money, they didn’t even bother to arrest anyone. ‘’
His ribcage is hurting him, a weird pain going straight through his chest, he’s sweating again.
‘’ Where are you? ‘’ He croaks. His whole body is stuck in a weird loop, he can’t move, he’s shaking at the same time.
It’s your next words that finally wake him up, feet turning and burning against the carpet. Please come get me, Rafa. I can’t do this. He’s moving now, and everything is so fast and so slow. He grabs a shirt that he doesn’t button up from a chair, a pair of pants from the first drawer. You stay right there, okay? I’m on my way. I’m coming. He’s calling out as he goes down the stairs, screaming for a car to be brought around. He’s angry now. Whatever shock and insecurity were keeping him stuck to the phone vanished. He can feel the cold metal of the gun he tucks into the back of his jeans, he can hear the squeal of his leather boots as they press against the marble floor.
In the back of his mind, he knows. He knows he should call Miguel, to let him know what is going on, to hear him say he might be going into a trap, that you chose your own path, and to let you deal with the consequences.
He knows that. He doesn’t care.
He didn’t care back then either when you had left, couldn’t give a shit, he told Miguel. Clearly, you weren’t up to joining the higher leagues, he thought. Who wouldn’t want more? Sell more, make more? Spend more? It bothered him so much at first, itching in his skin to think you didn’t understand it, understand him. He couldn’t tell when you had started to drift apart, idolizing different ideas, different lives. When he met Sofia a few weeks afterward, he thought it would solve it, solve the burning hole of betrayal in his chest, and oh was he mistaken.
His hands squeeze around the wheel thinking about it. It’s pouring hard outside, wipers going back and forth. He’s not angry at you anymore, not as much.
The tires screech when he finally stops, so fast that the movement sends him forward, bracing against the wheel. He can see your silhouette in the booth, blurred from the rain. You’re on the phone, talking to someone, and for a second, Miguel is behind him in the car, telling him he’s been betrayed again, that he was stupid to fall for it again, that-
Rafa opens the door, water slipping from the roof, soaking his sleeve. He can’t stay inside with his own thoughts. He made his choice. He’s here, like he told you he would be. His hair is sticking to his forehead, water dripping down his jaw. He lets the car run, he doesn’t plan on staying in the open anyway, telling you to stay at this street corner for so long was already dangerous as it is.
He can see your head following him as he walks around the hood. Steady steps, pushing the water out in ripples. He still can’t make out your face through the fogged window and for a second he hesitates again, almost catching the sidewalk with the top of his shoe in the process. He could leave and never think about this night again, he hasn’t looked into your eyes yet, he could go home and pretend he’s dreamed all of it.
You jump when he pulls the plastic door open,
‘’ Jesus, Rafa. Fuck, you scared me. ‘’ He watches your hands open and clenches back on the receiver, ‘’ I mean, I saw you get out. I don’t know why- ‘’
You’re soaked, from head to toe, who knows how long you had been running around before you finally decided to call him. Heavy drops of water are falling from your hair unto your leather jacket, running down the front. It is almost too big for you, your hands haft hidden by the cuff of the sleeves. His eyes fall back to your face, but you’re already watching him, gripping the phone with both hands. He can hear someone calling your name on the other side. You blink once, twice, but you can’t seem to be able to look away. He knows he can’t. You wipe some water off your face, pushing the leather under your nose, using the movement to turn back to your phone call.
‘’ Alejandro, I have to go now. We’ll fix this. ‘’
And then you hang up. Metal against metal, the sound of coins bumping somewhere in the back, sliding the change at the front. He knows you won’t take it. That it will make some kids happy. Candy money. You turn to him, your lips are pale, slightly blue from the cold.
‘’ You’re here. ‘’
‘’ I told you I would. ‘’
He hopes you never doubted it the way he did. That you believed him when he said it, that no one was perched on your shoulder telling you to run away and to not look back. He feels the water that runs down his back, pressing the fabric to his skin. You sniff again, and he’s sure you’ll catch a cold,
‘’ Can you bring me home? ‘’
God, he wishes he could, but he knows you’re grasping at straws, only wishing to be home after a shit show of a night. He shakes his head.
‘’ You know I can’t do that. ‘’
You scoff, ‘’ You can’t say I didn’t try. ‘’
Rafa cracks a smile. It’s small, but it pulls at his lips, showing the long dimples on the side of his cheeks. You had missed him. Missed how easy it was to talk with him, to feel seen, understood without too many words. His brown locks are sticking to his head, curls springing back to life. He passes a hand through them,
‘’ You have somewhere else I can bring you? ‘’
You nod, and you almost have a heart attack when he raises his arm up, pushing the material of his sleeve up with his fingers to wipe some water off your face. The cotton rubs against your skin, leaving a warm feeling across your cheek that you can’t shake away.
‘’ There’s a safe house in a suburb north of here, if you can bring me there, I’ll owe you one. ‘’
Here you are, negotiating again as if he would ask anything from you in return. He knows you prefer to keep things between you calm and civilized right now. Pretend like this is just an exchange of services.
‘’ Don’t push it, now. Come on, bobo, get in the damn car. ‘’
He wishes he could tell you it’s not like that, that it has never been and never will, that you mean too much to just be treated like a distant coworker, but he doesn’t. He can’t, so he stays silent as he steps out of the way, holding the plastic door open, allowing you to brush past him.
Rafa moves towards his side of the car, leaning between the seats to unlock your door from the inside. You fall on your seat, leather jacket squeaking against the leather booth. The moment your door closes, he steps on the gas, leaving the payphone behind in a fraction of a second.
‘’ I told you Ábrego was a prick. ‘’
‘’ You always tell me lots of things, Rafa. ‘’
He’s waving his hands around the wheel and he’s bristling at the thought. Just the idea of Juan Garcia putting his hands on you-
‘’ I told you to stay with us, that we could make this work. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t listen. ‘’
He knows he is channelling his anger on the wrong person, but still, he wants you to be angry at him too. To lash out, to tell him why you left, why you thought you could find better elsewhere without them, without him.
‘’ Stop this, Rafa. This has nothing to do with Guadalajara- ’’
‘’¿A sí? Because I recall you calling us pinche sapos del gobierno or something like that? ‘’
He knew it had always bothered you when Miguel had started to play businessman, mingling around with politicians and CEOs. We are criminals, Rafa, you had told him once, we pay those guys off, we don’t try to do their jobs. You had tried telling Miguel, time and time again, but he didn’t get it, maybe he didn’t even care to.
‘’ Ay, por favor, you know I never liked how close Miguel was to those senators! We were always a politician snitching away from crumbling down! Why am I even fighting with you over this?! ‘’
You sigh, head falling between your hands. He couldn’t stop himself and he hates it, hate seeing you hurt, hate shouting at you like that. When you speak again, it’s muffled by your sleeves, barely strong enough to be heard over the engine.
‘’ If I knew you’d be shitting on me this whole ride I would have just dealt with this myself. ‘’
‘’ You’d probably be dead, is what you would be. ‘’
‘’ Fuck you, Rafa, fuck you, really. ‘’
He stays silent then, there’s nothing left to say. It’s always the same things he brings up, every time, but it never changes the outcome, no matter how much he wishes it did. He thinks back to your words earlier. If you can bring me there, I’ll owe you one. It’s the only thing he can think of to make you understand, to break the silence in the car. He turns to you,
‘’ You don’t owe me anything, you know. Ever. ‘’
You snort, fingers pushing at the vents on the dash, pushing the heat toward your feet. He can feel your eyes on him for a second, he can see the small smile on the side of your face.
‘’ Oh, because we’re friends again, now? You’re gonna stop being a pendejo or-? ‘’
He knows you’re laughing at him, trying to change the subject, to not let this moment get too emotional. His nose wrinkles, shaking his head in a failed attempt to mock you. His fingers reach for the A/C, making sure the heat is on.
‘’ You know I don’t mean it, right? ‘’ Being an asshole, he wants to say, ‘’ I’m just- ‘’
He is met with silence once again. Words stuck in his throat, blocking his airway. He kind of hoped you would finish his sentence so he wouldn’t have to say it out loud. Admit that he is wrong, that he missed you. To let you know how much your call tonight had messed up his inside in a way he hadn’t felt in so long.
‘’ I missed you too, Rafa. ‘’
It’s comforting, the way you say it, it’s soft and meaningful, he can’t stop the sigh of relief that comes out of his chest. Your hand raises up, pressing against his bicep, the fabric of his shirt pushing more water into his skin. Your thumb is moving up and down, warming him up the best you can.
‘’ But you’re still the biggest bitch ever. ‘’ Your hand is higher now, meeting the back of his head with a loud slap, ‘’ Who do you think you were, talking to me like that, tonto, mmh?! ‘’
‘’ Ouch! What are- ‘’
You swat at him again and another time for good measure, he dodges, so you pinch his cheek with two fingers instead,
‘’ I make my own choices and I learn from them. You better not ‘i-told-you-so’ me ever again. ‘’
He snickers, pushing you back into your own seat. For a second, you are kids again, meeting on the playground being the school. No responsibilities, no bounties on your heads.
‘’ It’s my job to knock some sense into you. ‘’
‘’ Maybe you should keep it for yourself, from what I’ve heard you need it. ‘’
He stops in front of a house, it’s dark and small, buried between all the other ones. He knew it was this one you meant, back at the street corner after you gave him the address, your old parent’s house. After you moved from Badiraguato for your dad’s new job it had been a miracle that you ended up finding each other again in Guadalajara.
‘’ You want me to go in with you? Make sure it’s safe? ‘’
Rafa knows that he’s staling, holding on to the last minutes before you inevitably get up and leave. You shake your head.
‘’ I’m sure it’s good. I’ll be fine. ‘’
You sigh, crossing and uncrossing your legs in your seat. He’s not sure what more to say, but you lean towards him, gently taking his hand between yours. It’s awkward, fingers intertwining with yours like you two had never done this before. You smile, it’s soft, barely there, he notices a scar that wasn’t there before.
‘’ You be careful out there, Rafa. ‘’
‘’ You know I’m the one they’re scared of now, hmm? ‘’
You scoff, squeezing his hand with yours, a warning. Listen to me. This is serious, tonto. You look up at him, and it’s sadness he can see in your eyes, regret maybe.
‘’ Don’t be a smartass, you know what I mean. ‘’
The movement is shaky and awkward again, but you bring your joined hands up, pressing a soft kiss to the back of his hand. It’s warm, electrifying and he can’t do anything but hope that you would just stay here with him.
You’re opening the door before he can say anything else, sliding out of your seat before he can tell you that he will be careful if you ask him. As you get out of the car, your hand slipping from his, he leans forward and tugs at your sleeve, pulling you half back in your seat.
‘’ Are you going to call again? ‘’
Rafa feels like he is shouting, anything to have your attention, to make you stay with him a second more. He hates that he can't tell what you're thinking, what's behind your eyes. They're shining from the street lights outside, slightly wet from the cold, completely unreadable to him. He’s begging, he realizes, he never does that, but he doesn’t care.
‘’ Do you want me too? ‘’ you breathe out. Your voice is small, hardly audible over the raindrops falling on the roof.
‘’ I do. ‘’ I really want you to, he is itching to say, please, it’s pulling his chest.
‘’ Then I will. ‘’
He watches your mouth move before the words finally start to make sense. Your head moves down, body leaning to meet his in-between the seats. Your lips touch the corner of his mouth, the skin of his cheek touching his teeth from the motion. You are close to him for less than a second, already moving back to the door before he realizes, but still, he can smell your perfume, taste the rain and the sweat that is mixed in it. Rafa can feel the cold of your fingers on his forearm, the heat that is spilling from your lips into his whole being.
You close the door behind you with a small wave, mouthing him a thank you through the window. It was barely a second, a second where his heart had stopped and his insides had melted. Another second pass and you are gone, inside and safe, door closed, locked. I really want you to, he was itching to say, please, it’s pulling his chest again.
Then I will. You would. Rafa had never been a patient man, he had been told that a lot, and he never cared. But tonight, tomorrow, for weeks or months, he could wait, he decided. He just has to wait for the phone to ring again.

- ¿Quieres bailar? - Me pregunta mientras me ofrece su mano.
- No, gracias. Yo bailo sola. - Le contesto.
- Insisto. Baila conmigo.
- ¿Y si no acepto?
Me sonrojo.
- Caray, me saliste bien brava.
- Me insiste mi amiga.
- Ya es tarde. Quiero irme a casa.
- Me responde ella.
- Déjame ver como lo arreglo. - Contesto.
Ayyy, no, aquí no.
Empiezo a jadear.
- ¿Ahora qué? ¿Crees que tus manos te pueden ayudar? - Me susurra.
- Ayy Rafa...
- Eres una diablilla.
- Rafa... - Chillo.
Vuelve a besarme.
Me gusta.
- Aquí, no, mi fierecilla. Aquí no.
Summary: Rafa loved women. Rafa loved weed. Now he found a woman who loves weed just like he does. And he is immediately down bad.
A/N: Request: so I was thinking what if he met a woman who was strong and sassy and also into *cough cough* gardening *cough* and he just melts for her but she’s a hard to get maybe cos they’re rivals and she has a reputation to uphold being a strong independent woman ??? Maybe some smut with them giving into the attraction ??

Why I Love It: Uh, ya'll already know THAT I AM DOWNBAD FOR RAFA.
When I first took notice of Tenoch Huerta, I had no idea his most famous role before Namor was portraying an infamous drug dealer in a Narcos TV spin-off. I never watched that show (still haven’t) but I am so hyper fixated on Tenoch, I did watch all of his scenes on YouTube and salivated over every gif I came across on Tumblr. I lamented here in a post one day that I hadn’t been able to find any fic for the character, and was pointed to this gem.
Rafa the character is fascinating to me – as problematic as I know people may find the distinction fans want to make to separate their regard from the real criminal depicted by Tenoch in the series. It’s something I still question. I don’t care too much for film, TV or media around drugs and crime. My family loves Scarface, I despise it. People will recommend the Godfather, I have never, nor will I ever watch it (some in the industry insist I study it if I want to write movies, but I still refuse). No different with Narcos. So why do I like the “character”? Why am I drawn to him; curious? Why am I attracted?
Tenoch, plain and simple. I have no other way to articulate that thought, as it is shallow: I like the way Tenoch looks and speaks and characterizes Rafa, no deeper than that.
This story, a one-shot, the first I’ve read featuring him, is a Reader and it’s the perfect way to edge into a full blown hyperfixation. It’s my first in the realm of Tenoch’s other roles outside of Namor. It’s well paced, well plotted, well characterized, not too long or bitter, but rather sweet. I find that of the handful of fics I’ve read featuring Rafa, they are mostly tragedies. This one is not. It’s an easy narrative to be swept away by. I am not Afro Latina, or Mexican, and I don’t smoke weed, but I had no trouble reading this as I would “watch” an episode of the TV show, despite it being a “Reader” fic. And since I will probably never actually watch that show, this is good for me.
This is the first fic I read from the author. If you are intrigued by Rafa, here is a way for you to feed your curiosity that doesn’t require payment in angst.
