Plant of the Day
Monday 1 September 2025
Considered a weed of pasture land Jacobaea vulgaris (common ragwort, benweed, cankerweed, ragweed, felon weed, keddledock, Saracen's compass, St James' weed, staggerwort, starwort, yellow tops) has many common names. This upright biennial or short-lived perennial is poisonous to horses, especially when in hay where it cannot be detected, but by contrast it is an important food plant for the caterpillars of Tyria jacobaeae (cinnabar moth).

i wish whoever invented ragweed a very merry knees bending backwards with kneecaps exploding.
Ragweed and Me
Why is it that this morning was fine, but when 1 PM hits, I'm literally sneezing fifteen times within an hour? God, help me. Screw pollen.
I just had to sneeze ten times five minutes ago, and my nose still tickles. These sneezes are muted, but still intense as hell due to the ragweed.
I also learned that ragweed crops up behind the place where I work. I had to sneeze so much all in a span of two hours.
I'm honestly trying hard not to sneeze or let out anything, but it's difficult not to let out a flurry of itchy sneezes. My eyes are streaming and my chances are... I may have to show y'all what I'm talking about.
Some pictures from today’s walk.
