Episode 72 - Emma Houxbois & Kayla Miller
Welcome to the first installment of a series of interviews Sara Century and I are doing with different women, queer, LGBT, and POC artists about working during a Trump administration.
This week Sara Century speaks to comic book critic Emma Houxbois and I speak to illustrator and comic book artist Kayla Miller!
As always you can find this episode on iTunes, FeedBurner/RSS, Stitcher, or by clicking here and doing the whole right click > “Save As…” deal.

Each week we will be talking to different artists that we know and/or respect about how they are processing the current state of our nation and how they plan to proceed with their work. This isn't a call to "Make Punk Great Again," these are conversations with real artists about how they plan to approach the real challenges they face.
We'll be doing this through inauguration day at the least, so we hope you'll continue to join us! If you know anyone we should talk to, or there is anyone that you would personally like to talk to, feel free to submit names, suggestions, or your own recorded interviews to rob at undressingunderground dot com. Also, feel free to leave us a voicemail with your own thoughts and feelings at 260-PUNK-POD (260-786-5763).
In the meantime, do check out Kayla Miller’s work on her website, on tumblr, and on Twitter! And check out Emma Houxbois’s work at The Rainbow Hub and Comicosity, and on Twitter! And of course check out Sara Century’s website here!

Bulgaria's Rainbow Hub Attacked by Mob
Bulgaria’s Rainbow Hub Attacked by Mob
The Rainbow Hub in Sofia, Bulgaria, was the site of a violent mob attack on October 30, and it may have included a candidate for the country’s president. Not as a victim–but as a perpetrator. The Rainbow Hub, set in an apartment block, is a center for the LGBT community. It’s run by the Bilitis Foundation and Gays and Lesbians Accepted in Society (GLAS). The night of the attack, the center was…

Do you read Gotham Academy? I love it so much and I don't hear many people on comic blogs talking about it.
I do! I actually recommend it to just about everybody, especially the 10-13 audience at our shop. I think the problem with it is that it’s not a typical BATMAN comic. This is great, because it offers some new flavors and opens up different stories, art styles, and characters. It’s less great because it makes it difficult to find fans when the majority of venues discussing superhero comics...want to discuss superhero comics. We actually have really good coverage for it over at the Rainbow Hub, from our DC section editor Emma Houxbois.
(Coincidentally, you can find a lot of my reviews on this site too, by clicking here, or by searching “Ten Van Winkle” in the search bar. We recently had a site overhaul, so while I’ve written a butt-ton, they aren’t all under my name.) BUT BASICALLY, your other concern with GAcademy is that you don’t have character who are classics yet. Beautiful work, but the characters have yet to make their mark on the DC Universe, so it’s a little dot on the big picture. HOWEVER, the Robin War series coming up in December is going to be a crossover between Robin, We Are Robin, and Gotham Academy, so you should definitely check it out to watch these story seeds blossom!
Super happy to announce that I am the newest member of the media team at therainbowhub!
My latest review just went up! Please check it out, it's super short--AND I'm curious what you guys would think of this series.
Did you know that I review comics? I totally do.
Whoa whoa, the new Supergirl issue has some batfeathers in it's cap! There's my review over at the Hub, so check it out and leave comments! I'm kind of pumped for #36...
