I love how much you contribute to positivity in the Murderbot fandom <3 And I really appreciate how considerate you are towards people who dislike shipping SecUnit with anyone.

Awwww I love people who don’t want to ship it with anyone! That’s like the most canon typical headcanon/fic/fanart you can have? Need that headcanon diversity!

It makes sense why some wouldn’t wanna do that or even see it. It’s also not a big deal imo, like of course lots of ppl don’t want to see a rare character type erased or changed in a way they don’t agree with. I’d be pretty upset if everywhere I looked Mensah was turned into a man or Overse was made straight or Ratthi was turned white or Mensah was made monogamous and it’s not a tragic tale of one of her partners dying and leaving her partially widowed. Like, I know it’s because it fills into broader assumptions of what character traits are worth exploration and what character traits are erased or ignored or removed and how much that stacks and stacks and stacks.

It’s not like you’re making big essays complaining about how I write is wrong or anything.

(and while I do tend to block ppl writing genuine anti shipping stuff - I’m not gonna block someone for having an upset or disappointed vent. Like yeah I get it. It IS disappointing. I say that as a shipper! And a not shipper. And everything in between cause I wanna explore all the potential interpretations in fanfic (one day I’m totally gonna do a mother child approach to them)) ( and i think it’s cool we got word of god that secunit is never going to be in a romantic or sexual relationship in the canon. Not even with ART. Like that’s so cool for representation! It doesn’t mean it doesn’t love ART or mensah and it’s just. Such great representation??? Not even doing the “well some asexuals have sex to please their partner” thing it is just nope and that’s it. How novel and fresh!)

🌱 + Lirial Dustwalker

Is that a plant? I hate emojis sometimes. It looks like a little just-sprouted seedling. I’m gonna go with that. How about some post-apocalyptic fantasy?

Her tribe had been renamed after the Fall. The once lush land they’d roamed had been destroyed, reduced to sand and dust. The tribe had renamed appropriately. 

She hated it. She’d never known any name other than “Dustwalker,” but she knew her people’s history. She knew they had once roamed grasslands and forests, a wide swath of green, fertile and wild and... and varied. Not this hill after hill of bland and beige. 

Her tribe had been destroyed after the Fall, or, at least, their spirit had. They tried their best to cling to traditions, but how could you hunt for your proving when most animals had abandoned the Dust (as it now was known)? How could you weave flower crowns when flowers were but a distant memory? 

They had thrived once, and now were reduced to scraping for survival. And Lirial refused to let that continue. 

It’d been hundreds of years since the Fall, and everyone said she was crazy. “You’ll die out there,” her mother wailed, trying to hold on tight to her only surviving child.

“If so, then I die trying to restore our tribe,” she told her mother. She adjusted her pack, kissed her mother’s cheek, hugged her father, and strode out into the Dust.

Years came and went.  The tribe continued to scrape along, moving from known oasis to known oasis, though even these were little more than brackish watering holes. What plants were there were in as dire shape as the tribe itself.  Everyone believed Lirial long dead, but her parents refused to hold a funeral for her, which was just as well for everyone else; they had enough death to face.

And one day, ten years and ten days after Lirial had left, she returned, riding a strange creature with twisted horns. She was scarred, battered, her skin rough and sun-dyed dark. But she had a fierce light in her eye.

She alighted from the animal, who seemed to bow as if to royalty, and she reached into her bag as the Dustwalkers gathered around. 

And she pulled out a small cup with a single green sproutling in it, smiling brightly. They were confused, but she ignored them. She walked over to the oasis pond, and kneeled in the thin dirt there.

“It’s not deep enough...” someone started to say. 

Lirial ignored them. She scraped a hole in the earth, planted the seedling, covered it. She drew some water - hot and uncomfortable to drink - from the pool, and sprinkled it over the plant.

And the Dustwalkers’ eyes went wide at the transformation.

god i’m relieved but i’m still really skeptical anyways. Maybe it won’t be as bad but I’m honestly still expecting it to be cringey and edgy without the original creators onboard but WE’LL SEE I GUESS....

Fun fact: anise and star anise are completely different plants, but the essential oil in both plants is so similar that it can't be chemically differentiated, and most essential oil sold as "anise oil" is actually star anise oil, because it's much cheaper.

When I though anise flowers were called “star anise”, I thought it was because the flowers looked like a bunch of tiny stars...

It’s time for Answer Sunday!

This Question Wednesday has been undoubtedly the most productive one so far, I’ve been so beyond excited to be getting these music recs and it’s so lovely and special to be able to share them.

@rainwindandstars​ , this is such a really weird and interesting song, thank you for the rec! It’s definitely not the type of music that I myself listen to, but I’m honestly so glad that nonbinary rep is present in wide range of musical styles. How much would it suck to only have a single genre of music represent a huge culture of people? Hooray for the musical diversity, and I hope this song is something a follower might love :)

@morganthefae​ This is the hot take I needed!! David Bowie is an eternal idol, and due to me not living my best life I have somehow not listened to these songs so I remedied that immediately and hoo lemme tell you. I wish people from my parent’s generation talked more about the gender non-conformity of the icons of this era, because these are such wonderful ‘fuck you gender’ songs.
