Sending you random UOs because you're always fun to talk to and are kind even when you disagree!
Charmed: I love Piper/Leo despite the fact that - like most couples who are on a show that lasts so many seasons - they were put through an exhausting number of ups and downs. I feel like Piper and Leo are both such good people, similar in important ways that allow them to have a strong connection but also different enough to balance each other out, and I love that Piper is kind of an underdog who clearly suffers from anxiety while he's so calm and reassuring but is also inspired by her strength and the way she's a practical problem solver while he's an idealist. This is expressed so poorly but the gist is that I love them and think they've become REALLY underrated in recent years - either they're never acknowledged at all or seem actively disliked by many Charmed fans!
Friends: I love both Monica and Phoebe (a lot?!) more than I love Rachel. And while I personally always found Ross the most annoying of the Friends, this widespread idea that he's a literal psychopath is insane to me - ALL the Friends are fundamentally decent people yet very flawed, and those flaws are exaggerated for comedic effect. The way everyone else's flaws are disregarded or excused while every little thing Ross says or does is now used to claim that he's evil and The Worst is crazy to me!
Gilmore Girls: Rory and Lorelai's ships were all terrible and they're both better off single, for their own sakes AND the sake of the guys they'd be with :)
Frasier: I'm so sorry about this one and I actually followed you way back when because you're one of the only fellow Frasier fans here (now I follow you for a million other reasons too!) , but I kind of stopped shipping Niles and Daphne once they got together. It's not at all because the thrill of the chase was gone - I just thought their relationship brought out much less likable sides of both characters, especially Daphne, who became a TOTALLY different character in later seasons. I also sort of resented how lopsided it was, with Niles always the one who pined and wanted her so much more than she wanted him.
BTVS: If people like the dangerous darkness of Spuffy, that's great - it's not personally my thing, but I get it! BUT the way that "toxic ships like Spuffy can be fun and fascinating" has recently morphed into "You know, actually, despite all the abuse and relentlessly bleak misery and the fact that Buffy literally almost never even smiled in his presence and the way the ship brought out the worst in them over and over - it IS a happy and healthy ship and is somehow even a "feminist ship" which...what?! I know we all interpret stuff differently, but come on - claiming Spuffy is anywhere near happy or healthy is just ignoring or outright distorting 99.9% of canon, and I wish people could just be honest about liking toxic ships instead of trying to gaslight everyone into believing that the ships were never toxic to begin with!
This was so therapeutic for me---I hope you found this interesting even if you hate all my opinions :) Thank you!!
For me, though Piper and Leo isn't my BIG Charmed ship (team Phole for that) they have sort of a Jane and Bingley from P and P vibe that I find really sweet. It's nice to watch a ship that while it has it's conflicts, they're much less ahhhhhh! compared to the others cause I know Piper and Leo will work on them together, if I make any sense.
Monica is my absolute favorite female Friend, followed by Phoebe. I thought I was absolutely gonna HATE Rachel. I don't, but I admit I don't connect with her as much as I do the others. As for Ross, I find him annoying at most, but psychopathic...no.
I do like Rory and Lorelai best as mother and daughter (and as individuals) but Lorelai and Luke get me sometimes. Not a lot, but they can make me smile on screen.
I'm in a Frasier facebook group and we talk about this one all the time. I do wholeheartedly agree that Niles and Daphne were much more entertaining to watch before they officially got together and them becoming settled meant not as much entertainment value was put into their plots (which is why I do watch the episodes post them getting together less.) I think it would have been nice to see more of how much Daphne loved Niles too but since the point was that she "didn't know" how much he liked her and they were going with the whole "pining romantic" thing for him, we couldn't see both sides. (shame). The reality of them in a relationship (changes in how they viewed each other and all) is definitely not as fun as when we were watching the thrill of the chase, so you don't have to feel bad for that opinion at all. :)
When I first watched Buffy (and for a while after) I was a Spuffy shipper. Mainly because Bangel was everything that drives me nuts in a ship (not really for the longing and the drama/starcrossed lovers thing) so I felt like it was nice that there was a contrast. But as the years have gone by, I've stopped shipping Spuffy. I think Buffy's best with Buffy, and leave Spike and Angel to their messiness or let Cordelia deal with Angel. Took a while for me to get there, but here I am.
