Rap predictions for next five years November 28 2017 (artists I’m rooting for that I believe have a chance)
1. Joey Bada$$ - I don’t mean to disrespect Joey in anyway by even putting him on this list, I know he has had tremendous success and has been doing numbers aside from critical acclaim, I just feel like his name and brand can grow even more, if he tries and successfully experiments with sounds outside of static selektah’s beats. songs like devastated, which was a great attempt, but maybe with more bars and still have it be catchy.
2. Isaiah Rashad - tremendously talented and by fifth album should be considered one of the greats, cilvia demo and the sun’s tirade were near classics if not already classics to his fanbase.
3. John Givez - extremely talented rapper that not enough people are paying attention to in part because he started off a christian rapper, and has had some backlash from his majority christian fanbase for his change of thought process. I still believe he has potential, but overall I feel like he should keep some of his christian roots as to I believe it will help him reach kendrick Lamar levels of substance to positively affect people with his music.
4. Denzel curry - extremely talented lyricist that was the first to begin bringing attention to the florid music scene in modern times (2014-2017), aside from Kodak black, but I feel has been overshadowed by other tremendously talented individuals such as xxxtentacion and ski mask the slump god, and even Lil pump whose talent can be debate but definitely knows how to real people in with attention.
5. Ski mask The slump God- A star on the rise who took the smarter route, or as others can say the route of an artists, and wanted to come out with his own style, and he certainly has his own rapping style, that. may influence others to rap like him in the next couple years just like the amigos depending on how big he gets. (edit: maybe not to the scale of the amigos because of the simplicity of the rapping style the brought to rap)
6. Phora - extremely talented rapper with great substance and an amazing singing voice, the only thing that throws people off is that his singles are r&b singing songs, which made me surprised when I played his album and he was rapping. I believe as a rapper he has better potential but he can sing very well. If he starts putting out rap singles he should hopefully start getting the recognition her deserves.
7. Kevin Abstract - one of the standouts of “boy band” Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract I believe can be good for hip hop because of his crazy ear for sound, just like a Tyler the creator type of artist (not necessarily similar in sound though), Kevin if accepted into rap can change it for the better
8. Jaden Smith - a delightful surprise if anything else, if he continues to improve his raps and has better to equal production in his rap songs and albums to his debut album Syre, Jaden could easily go up to par with a Kevin abstract in terms of being a respected artist, I guess for now it looks like childish Gambino may have been right about Jaden in his Kauai EP
9. Joyner Lucas - An incredible lyricist and emcee in the purest form, if he keeps fighting to improve his craft he should easily be not just a respected rapper but a respected artist that hopefully can get on the charts too.
10. J.I.D.- I have to admit I didn’t like his music at first, and am still not necessarily playing his music on my spare time, but I can respect his lyricism, and he in my opinion is definitely the standout of dreamville’s new signees. from his immense energy and speed when rapping to his kendrick like vocal curves of words, JID’s album The never story shows us why he’s different and tells his own story, I believe he has potential to evolve into one os those rappers no one will lyrically want a problem with.
1. Cozz - talented dreamville rapper not far behind JID when it comes to energy in his raps
2. Bas - Dreamville rapper, laid back yet substance to his tracks, I can see how he has appealed to J.cole
3. Me - no I’m kidding I could’ve been but I have take a role similar to J.cole I guess, I don’t really care as much as I used to about being recognized as a great, I make like a song a year, and am not really emersed in it, although sometimes it calls me, I will let time run it’s course, and no longer stress when I get to making music.
