I want to draw Cassiel and Audrey getting married in my tribal wedding dresses and tradition. I'll even make a comic out of it.

David will be the head of the kitchen, Raphael will be playing the traditional music instruments, Felonia will be the head security, Mikael will be the spokesman, and Malek will be priest before the traditional event day. Or Mikael and Malek can be Audrey's adoptive parents.

Bruno is their out of wedlock son. Everyone's gonna side eye the bride and groom in this wedding.

“I said I was sorry.”

“Your apology doesn’t help me right now.”

“Who sneaks up on someone like that anyway?”

“Oh, so now it’s my fault?”

“I didn’t say that!”

Raphael came out to the sound of shouting.

“What’s going on? Why are you yelling?”

The arguing pair turned to face him, embarrassment colouring both their features. However, while the psychologist’s was mixed with guilt, the demon’s was fused with anger. Raphael almost did a double take as he met Cassiel’s eyes – they were blood red. For a moment, the angel was worried; they hadn’t yet revealed their true nature to the evaluator. But then he realised it wasn’t the demon’s irises that had turned red from his demonic nature, but rather, the whites of his sclera.

“What happened?”

Audrey’s face flushed to match Cassiel’s eyes. “I was in the garden and I got scared…and, well, I still had the pepper spray Felonia gave me, so…”

Raphael had to stifle a smile. From the look he received from Cassiel, he wasn’t quite successful.

“I really am sorry,” Audrey tried again.

Cassiel relented, sighing. “Whatever. Now stay here, I still need to check the garden.”

“Can you even see?”

Her question destroyed what little peace she’d managed to scrounge up; Cassiel was glaring again.

He directed his next sentence at Raphael, “Keep her here, please.”

“At least wash your eyes out first!” the evaluator called out after him.

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

Still, he veered toward the kitchen. As she watched him leave, Audrey bit her lip.

“Don’t worry,” Raphael reassured her. “No one can blame you for being a little on edge after the past couple of days.” And it’s not like you could have actually harmed him. “It’s late. You’d better get some sleep.”

“But–”

“I promise to wait for Cassiel.”

The prospect of dragging herself to her bedroom and looking out the window, thinking of a thousand ways Cassiel could die, wasn’t appealing to her. And she still felt guilty about pepperspraying him when he’d only been trying to help. If only she could make it up to him, somehow…

An idea sparked in her mind.

“Actually, there’s something else I’d like to do. Would you mind helping me out?”

When Audrey found Cassiel in the kitchen the next morning, she couldn’t contain her joy.

“You’re safe! What a relief!”

Just in case, she scanned him with her eyes to make sure he was indeed uninjured and all his limbs were intact.

“I didn’t find anyone in the garden.” The short sentence sounded like a reproach, but Cassiel quickly corrected himself. “I don’t know who was there, but they left no trace.”

“I see…”

“Are you celebrating something today?”

Audrey raised an eyebrow in question, not sure what he meant.

“You’re all dressed up…Never mind. Are you going somewhere?”

“Just for a couple of hours. Why? Do we have a case?”

“Not exactly. Felonia will come by in the evening and tell you about it. Try not to be late.”

“Okay. By the way, I have something for you.”

Audrey pushed a small container towards him, then hurried away before he could respond. Curious, Cassiel opened the box. Inside were some cookies and a note, written in case she hadn't had the luck to run into the man before her appointment with Malek.

To make up for yesterday. More sugar than spice, so you should be fine - Audrey

The fragrant smell of cinnamon intertwined with sugar and just the faintest touch of allspice to create a truly delicious scent. It lured the newly returned David into the kitchen.

“Did the little witch make that? It smells divine.”

The lawyer leaned in to snatch a bite, but Cassiel swatted him away.

“Hands off. They’re for me, not you.”

“So mean. Haven’t you heard that sharing is caring?”

“When did I ever give you the opinion that I cared?”

Once again, Raphael came out to the sound of arguing. David was determined to try one of Audrey’s cookies, while Cassiel was determined to keep them to himself. But it wasn’t really about the sweets – it was the fact that Cassiel was the first to earn the honour of receiving the psychologist’s hand-made goods.

The angel backed away quietly, not wanting to get involved. It would be better if they didn’t find out he was the one who had taste-tested all the cookies.
