Jurassic World - Chapter IX

Pairing: Owen Grady x Reader

Summary: Y/N Grant is the niece of the infamous Dr. Alan Grant. She is given an opportunity of a lifetime to work for Jurassic World to train dinosaurs. But what happens when she meets the Navy man who loves dinosaurs just as much as she?

A/N: Helloooooo! I am so sorry it’s taken me FOREVER to post a new chapter. I’ve been thinking of maybe starting to write for other fandoms? Don’t know yet because I’m slacking enough on writing for this series. But nonetheless, I am posting! And, I am thinking of posting maybe every Friday? For the last chapters at least. Chapter IX – The Confrontation

“Watch your six; The raptors got a new Alpha.” Owen’s gun was raised as he slowly made his way through the forest. Your heart was racing. You couldn’t believe the raptors would turn on him like this.

Well, actually, you can. They’re animals. But Owen had something special with those raptors. Your heart broke for him as he no longer felt that bond with them. You and Claire watched the tablet as the soldiers made their way through the woods. Your head shook as shots rang out. You knew what was happening. The raptors were using their instincts. One of the cameras showed Owen, his gun lowering as he watched one of the raptors, who you realized was Delta, inspect him. Suddenly a rocket launched and killed her. You gasped and put your hand over your mouth, watching the pain formed on Owen’s face from seeing her killed. You held back a sob and tears as Owen got back up and onto his motorcycle. Out of the corner of the screen you saw Blue attack Barry and your heart sank. Barry loved those raptors just as much as you and Owen. You watched as Owen revved his bike, distracting Blue from nearly mauling Barry. He moved quickly and Blue ran after him. You jumped at the sound of Gray’s voice from behind you, speaking through the window of the ambulance.

“Is everybody dead?” Claire moved the tablet to hide it from her nephews and turned to face them.

“No, no, everyone is fine—”

“Don’t lie to him!” Zack spoke firmly to Claire and Claire raised her voice.

“He’s scared, it’s okay to be scared!” Claire continued to argue with her nephews and your eyes went out onto the road. It was too quiet. Your gut started turning. Something was wrong, or something was going to happen. A bloody hand went onto the driver’s side window and Claire screamed, your eyes widened.

“Get out of here, go!” The soldier screamed and you looked at Claire who immediately put the ambulance in gear. You heard the back doors open and the boys scream. You opened the back window and saw the same soldier get mauled by one of the raptors, although you couldn’t make out who it was. Another raptor broke through the driver’s side door and both you and Claire screamed, the raptor eventually falling from the speed of the ambulance. You looked through the back window and noticed the raptors trailing behind. You moved from the passenger seat and climbed through the window, Zack and Gray moving to let you in. You yelled for the boys to hang on as you let loose one of the oxygen tanks and rolled it out of the vehicle.

Claire maneuvered the ambulance to knock off one of the raptors while the other still trailed. You recognized the raptor to be Charlie and you tried to call for her before Grady hands you one of the electric rods. Charlie leaps into the ambulance and hangs on by her claws. You turned on the rod and zapped her in the chest. She fell off and you grabbed onto the boys, Grady hanging onto you before Zack opened the window.

“Did you see that?!”

“I can’t wait to tell mom!” Claire shook her head.

“Please do not tell your mother anything!” You laughed and went to move towards a first aid kit when you saw a headlight beaming through and an engine revving.

“Owen!” You yelled in relief and the boys yelled in joy as they saw him. He moved to ride next to Claire and heard him tell her to follow him. Claire called Lowery to tell him you were headed his way and to call in a chopper.

Claire pulled into the main resort and parked right behind Owen’s bike. You all jumped out as Owen stood with his gun raised. You ran up next to him and wrapped your arms around him and Claire went to grab her nephews. His body was tense but relaxed slightly at the feeling of your arms. You let go of him once Claire’s nephews were out of the ambulance and you all ran into the main building.

“Control room! That way!” Claire shouted and pointed as you all ran, Owen’s hand finding yours. Your heart raced but you laced your fingers with his, too afraid to let go. You ran through the laboratory when you heard a clash, you all stopping and taking in your surroundings.

“They all evacuated,” You whispered as your anger began to flush through you again. Once again, Wu got away. You wanted to tear into him before you lost your chance. Claire made her way through the lab first and her nephews followed, you trail behind with Owen next to you still hand in hand. You all looked around at the different test subjects, ranging from mice and insects to chameleons and birds. You heard another clang and you all turned around to see men from InGen packing away valuable test components.

“What are you doing?!” Claire’s voice was full of concern even though she had a soft tone. A human figure came from around the corner and spoke.

“I’m afraid that’s above your paygrade honey,” Hoskins was smug as he came around. You squeezed Owen’s hand for reassurance, though the both of you were still as statues. You were too afraid to move, and so was Owen. You both wanted to kill him.

“Where’s Henry?” You asked sternly. Hoskins smirked at you as his hands were on his hips as he kept walking.

“Dr. Wu works for us,” You suddenly felt sorry for Wu, but only for a second. You noticed Gray poking his head out from around Owen. You nudged Owen on his side, Owen’s hand coming out to shield Grady as Hoskins stopped in front of them.

“That’s not a real dinosaur,” Grady mentioned. Hoskins looked at the computer next to him and chuckled.

“No, it ain’t kid.” Hoskins returned his hands to his hips and looked over at you all, his eyes flickering between the kids, you, and Owen. “But somebody’s gotta make sure this company still has a future. Imagine,” Hoskins moved his head to nod at the screen. “That one? A fraction of the size, deadly, intelligent, able to hide from the most advanced military technology.” His one hand was raised to point from the screen towards Owen, who was glaring daggers at the man.

“A living weapon,” Hoskins continued, “unlike anything we’ve ever seen. See,” He stepped closer to your group. “Millions of years of evolution—what’d we learn?” He stopped in front of Owen, who’s hand started to shake. “Nature, is the gift—oh shit!” Hoskins was interrupted by one of the raptors, who you recognized as Echo. He backed away, Owen suddenly moving his arms out to block all of you, moving you back slowly. Echo kept stalking towards Hoskins.

“Easy—easy boy,” Hoskins’ voice held fear as he backed onto one of the lab’s fridges. “Easy!” Echo wasn’t backing down, keeping her eyes trained on Hoskins. “Hey, hey! We’re—we’re on the same side right?” He slowly started to move his hand to raise it towards her, Owen’s body slowly moving your group towards the door, not making any sound. “Easy..easy..” Owen kept his eyes on his raptor as your eyes went wide, knowing Echo wasn’t going to back down. Hoskins’ hand was raised towards Echo. “I’m on your side—” Hoskins screamed the moment Echo locked her jaw on his hand. Owen pushed you all out the door and you all made a run for it. Glass shattered behind you and you knew Hoskins wouldn’t survive.

You all ran out the main building and down the steps until Blue stood at the bottom of the stairs. You all stopped and turned once you heard the doors reopening, Echo coming from behind and stalking down the stairs towards your group. Charlie popped up on the side. Owen kept his stance firm as Claire clung to her nephews, your hands immediately reaching to hold onto Owen, one resting on his shoulder and the other on his back.

“That’s how it is, huh?” Owen’s eyes kept on Blue, dropping his gun from his hand. The raptors stalked closer to you until they had you caged in. Your eyes darted between all three, but you always returned your gaze to Blue. Owen started raising his hand and you whispered in protest, but you knew he wouldn’t listen to you. Blue snapped at him but Owen didn’t flinch. He kept raising his hand. “Easy,” his voice was soft, as if Blue was still a youngling. Owen reached further until he snapped the headset off of his raptor, dropping it to the ground. Your hands were shaking against his body. “That’s it,” Owen whispered towards Blue.

Suddenly she came, the Indominus Rex showed herself from around the corner. Your eyes went wide, and you moved your hands and placed one on Owen’s arm and the other on his waist. The raptors snapped to attention and faced the hybrid as she stalked closer. Owen’s hand was still out as you all listened to the I-Rex communicate with Blue. She turned around and made eye contact with Owen, and you knew at that moment Blue was going to obey her original Alpha. Owen looked at the I-Rex with pride, a smirk on his lips as Blue turned back to the I-Rex to communicate back, and the I-Rex roared in rage and knocked Blue into the building. Owen was pissed as he looked up at the I-Rex, Charlie and Echo roaring at the huge dinosaur. Owen looked between the two of them, looked up at the creature and gave his whistle, the raptors attacking the hybrid above.

I Just Miss You

Description: You and Jungkook just want to spend some time together, but life has been getting in the way.

Pairing: JungkookxReader, 

Genre: Fluff

Word count: 1,336

“I know we had plans but I can’t make it tomorrow for lunch, baby. I’m so sorry.” Jungkook said.

You sighed, running your hands through your hair.

“Again? This is the third time, Kook.” The reply came out a little sharper than you intended, so you continued.

“I just miss you…” You spoke into the phone quietly, feeling the weight of this past week on your shoulders. The tension was settling into your muscles and this conversation was not going how you had hoped.  

“I’m off tomorrow, can’t you just push a couple appointments back?” you asked, knowing what the answer would be.

Jungkook sighed “I wish I could. I miss you too Y/N. I want to see you just as bad, but my books are filled.” Jungkook replied apologetically.  “It’s tax season. You know everyone wants to blow their money on tattoos when they have that much cash in their pockets.”

You didn’t reply immediately. Your brain felt sluggish and it was hard to form full sentences at this point, but you knew Jungkook understood.  

Jungkook had no control these things, and you understood that. He didn’t schedule his own appointments, He couldn’t turn customers away for no reason, and you knew he had bugged the store owner to clear his schedule before the season started. It just wasn’t a possibility, and you didn’t want to make him feel any worse by pestering him.

You couldn’t help the need you had to be around him. You wanted nothing more then to bury your face in his shoulder while his arms wrapped around you. You wanted to sink with him into his couch, or your bed, or anywhere you could both fit and just exist in the same space. If you both just sat there with each other long enough to meld into one person that would be perfect, at this point. It had been weeks since either one of you had seen each other and you felt a little silly about how badly you needed him.

You heard Jungkook sigh on the other end of the line. “I feel like I’m losing my mind too, you know that?”

There he goes again, reading your mind.

“I definitely do.” You said smiling a tiredly, relaxing a bit. “I feel like I’ve been at work for a year. Just tell my boss I came down with the plague so I can go home. Then tell Hobi I gave it to you so you can come over.”

“If your sitting where you usually are on break, Namjoon can definitely see you.” Jungkook replied. You could hear the smile in his voice and that alone made you feel a little lighter.

You heard a couple clicks and then a buzz. Jungkook must be starting on someone’s tattoo.

“Okay well, your the creative one. Come up with something for me.” You knew the conversation was nearing an end but you needed to drag it out as long as your break was allowed. Jungkook seemed equally reluctant to end the call, babbling on even when you could barely hear him over the buzzing of his gun.

It was always small things like that with Jungkook. He didn’t have to do much to show you that you hung the moon for him. He wasn’t one for grand gestures or flashy gifts. He was someone who shouldered small inconveniences, and whispering quiet reassurances to you. Validating your worth with actions. You loved him so much for it.

Soon enough though, your break had to come to an end.

After a couple more goodbyes than necessary, you hung up and got to your feet to stretch. When glancing into the store window you caught sight of Namjoon motioning to his invisible watch, indicating that your fixing to be late if you didn’t hurry. Tired or not, you were a good employee so you scurried back to the register and plastered on your very best customer service smile.

The last four hours of your day dragged. You tried to keep yourself busy but it did nothing to speed up the day. Finally the clock struck 9:00 and you were free.

After a short nap on the bus you were home, dragging yourself into your apartment with lead feet.

After dropping your keys on the kitchen counter you stood for a moment deciding what to do next. Just the thought of changing made you cringe. You couldn’t muster the energy to take off your clothes to change because in order to do that, you would have to take off your shoes and that was just not a challenge you were willing to face at that moment. That was a pretty good indicator for you, that it was time to go to bed. You turned off the kitchen light and headed straight to your bedroom. You opened your door to another pitch dark room and vaulted yourself onto the bed, relying on your memory to guide you to the sheets. .

You expected a soft landing. You did not expect a knee in your sternum.

A soft breath of pain sounded from under your covers “Oof~”  

“what in th–” Thoroughly confused, and not yet able to place the pieces together in your brain, you pulled yourself up and scrambled for the lamp switch.

Your eyes adjusted to the sudden blanket of light, and landed on a lump of blankets on the left side of your bed. You wrenched back the covers and found a very pouty boyfriend nursing his wounded knee.

Finally your over worked mind snapped the puzzle into place.

Jungkook was here.  

Jungkook was in your bed, not at his house.

Upon further inspection you noticed a stuffed animal leaning up on the lamp, along with a brand new box of calming tea.

“Did you buy me Cozy Camomile Herbal tea, Jungkook?” You asked in a daze, still in that weird shocked state where you just ask the first question that comes to mind.

“I did” He replied. Replacing his pout with a crooked grin.

“And did you also buy me a new best friend in the form of a plushy unicorn?” You asked, still dazed but if the stinging in your left rib was any indication you were coming too.

Jungkook snickered at you but made no moves, allowing you to bask in the moment.

“I did” he said.

Suddenly all of your missing energy from the day shot through you at once. You allowed it to take over, catapulting yourself onto Jungkook’s chest. You ignored his grunts and burrowed yourself into his neck like you had wanted to do all week and wallowed in the immediate calm and safety that you felt.

“What happened to being too tired to come see me, you liar?” You mumbled into Jungkooks skin.

Jungkook grasped your body and shifted you into a more comfortable position with little effort on his part, he then ran his hands over your back and shoulders. Gently rubbing at the muscles there.

“I wanted to surprise you.” he said into your hair, leaving tiny kisses at your crown.

“Will you stay?” You asked, fighting your body with all your might not to pass out. You had so little time.

“Unless you kick me out, I wasn’t planning on going anywhere else tonight.” He replied, sounding just as exhausted. “I have my alarm set to wake us up early in the morning. I can turn it off but i wanted to take you out to breakfast before the day starts, if you want.” His voice was trailing off a little at the end.

“That sounds wonderful” You replied, slurring softly, half conscious and losing the battle with sleep.

Jungkook pushed his hands into your shoulder blades a final few times, then let them rest at your sides. “Take your shoes off before you fall asleep on me, you heathen.” he whispered half heartedly. When you didn’t reply he shook his head, and turned off the lamp, and let his eyes fall closed.

 Chapter VIII – The Raptor Brigade

Your jaw was clenched as you neared the raptor paddock. You saw Hoskins inside with the raptors barred up. Barry came out of the caged area and towards your car. Owen was the first one out and you knew you had to hurry behind him. Claire was right behind the two of you with her nephews trailing behind. Hoskins exited the confinement and smiled as he approached.

“The mother hen has finally arrived—” Before he could finish Owen socked him. You went in front of Owen and placed your hands on his arms.

“Owen, he’s not worth it,” His body was tense as you spoke to him. You turned to look at Hoskins but stayed in front of Owen, your hands on his wrists behind you.

“You get the hell out of here, and stay away from my animals,” Owen threatened the InGen representative, and you kept your grip tight on his wrists. Claire was next to confront him.

“Hoskins, you wanted this to happen.”

“You son of a bitch,” It was your turn to reach for the man in front of you, but Claire held her arm out, reminding you of your need to hold Owen back. Hoskins rolled his eyes.

“Jesus. How many more people have to die before this mission starts to make sense to you?” He questioned Owen who was till tense behind you. You didn’t move your hands and he didn’t force you to move. Barry showed up next to Claire.

“It is not a mission—it is a field test.” Barry looked to Owen and you, Owen’s glare still on Hoskins.

“Okay, there are going to be cruise ships that show up here first light. Everybody’s gonna get off this island—You’re gonna see a news story tomorrow, about how you all saved lives—”

“You’ve got to be fucking joking,” Your tone was as loud as his and he continued despite your statement.

“No no no, better yet—How your animals saved lives!” Owen’s body was shaking, you couldn’t tell from anger or anxiety. His head turned towards Barry who pointed towards the paddock.

“They’ve never been out of containment. It’s crazy!” You turned your body to face Owen and Hoskins yelled.

“Let’s move it out!” You turned to look at Hoskins.

“Okay, my turn.” You raised your fist and Hoskins moved to block until Owen grabbed your arm, forcing it down to your side. Hoskins snickered in your face before looking at Owen.

“This is happening, with or without you.” You knew at that moment what Owen’s decision was. Hoskins turned and Owen looked at you and Barry before following him.

“Owen you can’t be fucking serious,” You followed after him and he turned to look at you, his anger clear as day on his face.

“I have to, for them.” You knew his “them” were the raptors. You nodded and followed him into the tent where Hoskins and other apparent soldiers were. Barry stood next to Owen and you stood on the door frame, watching them. You turned to leave and went into the containment cage the raptors were in.

You smiled at each of them, holding your hand out so they picked up your scent. Blue kept her eyes on you, and you pet her softly, moving as soon as the containment door opened, and Owen stepped in. You moved to the side, standing by Claire’s nephews who stood in awe of Owen and the raptors. The youngest nephew called out to Owen and he turned his attention to them.

“Are they safe?” Gray spoke and you leaned against the bars. You could see the despair in Owen’s eyes as he spoke about his raptors.

“No, they’re not.” You frowned, your eyes looking at the raptors as he continued to speak with the boys.

“What are their names?” Zack seemed genuinely curious and it made you smile a little. Owen half turned to point at each raptor.

“Well, you got Charlie. That’s Echo. There’s Delta. This one’s called Blue, she’s the Beta.”

“Who’s the Alpha?” Gray asked.

“You’re looking at him, kid.” Owen’s tone and response made your body visibly shiver and you knew Owen damn well saw that. Claire cleared her throat which made you jump, and Owen smirked. The boys followed Claire to an ambulance. Owen came over to you and stood in front of you. You looked up at him, your arms still crossed.

“I still think this is not a good idea.” Your tone was soft as you kept your eyes on him. He nodded.

“It’s not, but I’d rather be there than not.” You nodded, understanding his passion for the raptors. One of his hands came to rest on a bar right beside your head. He leaned down a little and you looked up at him, your eyes slowly closing as his lips came to press to yours.

This kiss was soft, not like the main resort kiss. His lips moved with yours slowly, your arms uncrossing and wrapping around his neck. His other hand wrapped around your waist as he slowly traced his tongue along your bottom lip. You moaned softly before slowly moving your lips from his, his eyes opening to look down at you. You smirked.

“There are children present, Mr. Grady.” He groaned and rolled his eyes and you smacked your hands against his chest, pushing him off you. “I want to go with you.” His head whirled around, and his gaze changed, playfulness to irritation.

“No, I don’t need to worry about you too out there.” You rolled your eyes and placed your hands on your hips.

“Don’t worry about me, worry about the raptors—”

“Then stay here—”

“Are you seriously going to argue with me?”

“Yes.” You rolled your eyes and turned to Blue. You bit your lip before turning around and standing up to Owen.

“Fine, I’ll stay. But don’t come crawling back to me with no limbs, I might not find you attractive then.” He smirked.

“You find me attractive?”

“I find you annoying, Grady.” You waved your hand at him and exited the confined cage. You made your way over to Claire, sitting in the passenger seat of the ambulance. She raised a brow at you.

“You’re not going?”

“Nope, told the grump I’m staying here.” You both laughed. It was nice to get along with Claire. If you lived through this, you might even be able to apologize for how you acted all these years. Maybe.

Claire pulled out a tablet that showed the cameras of the vehicles and what the raptors were wearing. You scooted over to watch. You watched as the raptors ran through the forest, Owen driving his motorcycle to catch up to them and Barry not far behind. The back window slowly slid open as Claire’s nephews wanted to catch a peak at what was happening.

“Y/N, your boyfriend’s a badass,” Zack made you blush at your comment and Claire looked over at you with a wink. You smiled a little and kept your eyes on the tablet’s videos. The raptors slowed and came to a stop and your heart started to race. You were on the edge of your seat as Claire moved the tablet over a little for you to see better. Owen, Barry, and InGen got off their vehicles and marched their way towards the raptors.

“Okay, no. You guys aren’t watching this,”

“Wait aunt Claire—” She closed the window on the boys, and you kept your eyes on the tablet. Everyone in the video aimed their guns towards the trees where the raptors were staring. The I-Rex came out from the trees and you immediately tensed. The raptors didn’t attack right then and there. Something was wrong.

“Claire, something’s wrong.” You whispered as the video continued. The raptors and the I-Rex were communicating. You heard Owen speaking through the video.

“I know why they wouldn’t tell us what she’s made of,” His voice ran shivers down your spine as you came to the exact same realization he did. “That thing’s part raptor.” His whisper was soft, but you stole a look at Claire.

“Did you know?” You whispered to Claire and she shook her head.

“They wouldn’t tell me.” Her whisper matched yours. You both looked at each other before back at the video. All four raptors turned their bodies to look to the people, their eyes on Owen as you seen in the footage.

“Oh no—”

And then InGen attacked. The I-Rex roared and ran, the raptors running with it.

Chapter VII – The Hunt

“So, you and Owen huh?” Claire nudged you with her elbow and spoke softly to where only you could hear. You rolled your eyes, shaking your head. Owen was leading now, and you both traveled behind him. You crossed your arms as you looked over at the red head.

“There’s no ‘me and Owen’ Claire.” You kept your voice down to try and hide the conversation from the man before you. Claire was next to roll her eyes. You looked at her and shook your head. “What?”

“Have you not noticed the way he looks at you? How he tries his best to comfort you or be near you?” Your eyebrows drooped at her statement and you shook her head. She laughed and continued, “Honestly being in the same room with the two of you makes me want to gauge my eyes out.”

“I’m surprised you haven’t done that yet—”

“Har har—”

“Ladies, enough girl chat and keep up.” Either Owen knew the conversation you were having, or he was annoyed you and Claire were actually getting along. Both of your paces moved closer to his.

“Seriously though, Y/N. He has feelings for you. I would know.” Claire winked in your direction before walking directly next to Owen. You stared at her in shock and couldn’t believe what she just told you. Owen has feelings for me? Your heart skipped a beat and your mind shook you out of the idea. No, no he doesn’t. He’s the island’s womanizer. He doesn’t settle down. You argued with yourself as you stayed behind the two of them.

The three of you ceased your movements once you heard the sound of an engine. You all looked at each other before taking off in the direction the noise came from. You made your way to the old Jurassic Park building, one of Hammond’s firsts. Your uncle came to mind as you searched through the material. You all stopped in front of the garage, seeing only one Jeep and another looked to be taken. Owen walked in and bent down, taking a shirt off the ground and showing it to Claire.

“Is this one of theirs?” Claire nodded, and Owen got to his feet as you stood next to the Jeep. No keys were found, and you looked in the car.

“There’s no keys, how did they get one of these things started?” You spoke to yourself.

“That road goes straight back to the park,” Claire noted turning so she faced the road. Owen looked on the shelves for something to help start the vehicle. He was about to pop the hood when a shudder came from the ground, the debris on the roof falling. The three of you stood still, your heart racing as you knew you were found by the I-Rex. Claire ran behind Owen and you stood next to him. Both he and Claire ducked while you stood, suddenly being tugged down and your body landing directly in Owen’s lap. He put his hand over your mouth to keep you quiet and you closed your eyes.

Suddenly you heard her, the Indominus Rex was in your area. Your head ducked into Owen’s neck and shoulder, your hands replacing his on your mouth. He kept one arm around you and the other in front of Claire. None of you moved. You suddenly felt the warm breath of the I-Rex on your side, her snout moving the car. Tears streamed from your eyes as you kept yourself as quiet as possible. Owen’s grip around you tightened. The dinosaur moved out of sight and Owen nudged you to move, sliding off his lap to sit beside Claire, so he could crawl over quietly to grab his gun. He resumed his position and looked at the two of you. He nodded and the three of you released breaths you were holding.

The roof of the garage collapsed as the I-Rex pushed its way through, Owen grabbing you and Claire to move. The three of you took off running into the main hall and out the main door. You kept running as Claire spoke on the phone to Lowery explaining the I-Rex’s position.

“They’re airborne!” Claire yelled at the two of you as you all continued to run. You made your way out of the forest and into the valley, looking up into the sky to notice the helicopter.

“Seems they finally took your advice about the M134 huh?” You nudged Owen and he laughed.

“It’s about damn time someone did.” You smiled up at him as the three of you watched the helicopter follow the dinosaur towards the aviary. That’s when the Indominus Rex busted it’s way through the glass and into the aviary, and suddenly the pterodactyls and hybrids escaped. The helicopter, which was being flown by Masrani, caught fire in one if its wings. You placed your hand over your mouth, as did Claire, and watched the copter go down into the building and you saw the flames. You may not have agreed with the businessman, but you knew he had good intentions and heart.

More pterodactyls and hybrids flew from the building. The three of you turned to take off back into the forest, hiding in the trees from the flying carnivores. One came close and Owen knocked the three of you down, each of you watching the flying creatures. The three of you made it to your feet and ran towards a main road. Claire answered her phone to speak to her assistant and Owen found a four-wheeler.

“Get on,” He spoke, and you turned to look at Claire before turning back to him.

“You take her, I’ll get my own.” You ignored Owen’s protests but found another four-wheeler and revved up, watching Claire get on the back of Owen’s. Your heart stung a little, but you ignored it as you took off down the road. Owen’s vehicle caught up to yours and you both road together. You stopped once you reached the main gates and Owen grabbed a gun from one of the security officers.

“Come on,” he spoke to you and Claire, the both of you trailing behind him. You were bothered by the number of screams from everyone. You kept your head down and stood off to the side as Owen and the other security officers aimed and fired at the flying beasts. Claire stood on top of a bench, screaming for her nephews. You felt helpless. You suddenly heard boys screaming Claire’s name and you looked, seeing two boys roughly the ages Claire explained running towards you all. That’s when Owen was attacked by one of the pterodactyl hybrids.

“Owen!” You screamed and rushed over to him. Claire ran towards her nephews after they were nearly killed, Owen doing his best to fight the creature off him. You took his gun that was beside him and used the butt of it to smack against the creature to gain its attention. You knocked it out and you held the gun up, shooting multiple times until you knew it was dead.

You breathed heavily and lowered the gun, helping Owen up and handing the gun back to him. He wrapped his arm around you and dipped his head, his lips landing on yours in a hard kiss. You gasped but immediately reciprocated, your lips moving with his. You placed your hands on his face and slowly moving away once you heard Claire’s voice.

“I have them!” Your and Owen’s attention went to Claire, noting the boys with her. You walked with Owen over to where they were.

“Who’s that?” The oldest one had asked. You smirked and crossed your arms, looking between the boys. Owen stood with his gun faced down and his other hand wrapped on your waist. You smiled at the boys as Claire spoke.

“We work together,” The boys looked from each other to the three of you.

“I’m Y/N Grant, this is Navy vet Owen Grady. We helped with the dinosaurs before this chaos ensued.” The youngest one’s face lit up at the mention of your name.

“Grant? Are you related to Dr. Alan Grant?” His star struck gaze melted your heart and you smiled at the boy.

“He’s my uncle.” He muttered a cool before the three of you were ushered to go by Owen. Claire grabbed onto the boys and the five of you made your way as Claire spoke on the phone. She stopped in place.

“What do you mean use the raptors?” You and Owen stopped in your tracks the both of you looking at Claire.

“Son of a bitch,” Owen’s tone was cold as he looked at Claire. You all looked up in the sky and noticed the helicopters. InGen. You glared at the sky and your jaw locked. “Take the kids, get them somewhere safe.” Owen directed Claire.

The five of you jumped into the Mercedes vehicle as soon as the crowd made its way through the locked door, Claire in the back with her nephews. Owen reversed into an empty entrance way and let the crowd run by.

“This does not feel safe.” The oldest of the boys had spoken.

“Can we stay with you?” The youngest one was in a panic, and you didn’t blame him.

“I am never leaving you as long as you live—” Claire began before both boys interrupted.

“No—him—her—them” They both said in unison. You chuckled and shook your head at their response. You and Owen looked at each other and you shrugged before he was able to step on the gas. You kept your eyes on the road in front of you.

“Owen, where are we going?” Claire asked from the back. You looked at Owen as he kept his gaze out on the road. You rested your hand on his arm.

“We’re going to my raptors.” His voice was stern, and you turned to look at the boys and Claire. You turned back around and stared out the windshield.

Hoskins was about to get his ass beat.

Pairing: Owen Grady x Reader

Summary: Y/N Grant is the niece of the infamous Dr. Alan Grant. She is given an opportunity of a lifetime to work for Jurassic World to train dinosaurs. But what happens when she meets the Navy man who loves dinosaurs just as much as she?

Chapter VI – Claire’s Nephews

You heard over the intercom the park has ceased all operations. You were in the main building of the resort, watching families observe what little of attractions they had. Owen came to stand by your side as you kept your eyes on the families. He placed his hand on your shoulder.

“If we evacuate now, we could get everyone to safety,” He sounded so positive, but you knew deep down more people were going to get hurt or die. You chewed on your lip and nodded at him. “Hey, look at me.” You turned your head to look at him. “What’s going on in your mind?” He spoke softly. You scoffed and shook your head, looking back at the families.

“I’m thinking we are all going to die here.” Your voice was a small whisper, only to where Owen could hear you. He looked down at you as you turned your gaze up to his. “I don’t want to die, Owen. Not yet.” He placed one of his palms to rest on your cheek, his thumb brushing your cheek bone.

“You’re not going to die, not here.” His gaze drifted between your eyes and mouth and you did the same. You nodded at Owen and he kept his gaze on you, his head slowly moving towards yours. You went to close your eyes before you noticed a flash of red out of the corner of your eye, and Owen noticed it too.

“Claire,” He called out to her. She sighed in relief, but she was still panicky. You both walked over to her.

“Oh thank god, I need you both.” You were taken aback but Owen nudged you.

“Okay,” Owen sounded confused and you kept yourself close to him.

“Your help! My nephews—they’re out in the valley, please. If anything happens to them—”

Owen grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side, you following beside them while you asked, “How old?”

“Uh...the older one, he’s like...high school age,” Claire’s hand raised to match her height. “The younger one, he’s…uhm...he’s...a few years—”

“You don’t know how old your nephew’s are?” Owen was annoyed with Claire’s arrogance, and you were too. You knew all the ages of your family members, especially your nieces and nephews. You made a note that maybe she doesn’t consider family as important as you.

“I didn’t think it was important—”

“How do you not think knowing the ages of your nephews isn’t important?” You crossed your arms and glared at Claire, and she glared right back.

“Alright, girls, now’s not the time for a pissing contest.” Owen raised his hands to the both of you. You rolled your eyes and sighed heavily as you waited for Claire to continue.

“Look, can you both please just help me?” Claire was desperate, you knew that. You sighed and looked over at Owen, who turned to look at you. You nodded and looked at Claire.

“Where were they last?”

“The gyrosphere—”

“Beautiful,” you put your fingers to your temples and rubbed them.

“Come on, let’s get keys to a car and go out to the field.” You and Claire followed Owen as he grabbed the keys to a Jeep.

“Shotgun,” You smirked, jumping in the passenger seat and Claire in the back. You smirked as you saw her glare in the rearview mirror. Owen jumped in the driver seat and put the Jeep into gear and set out towards the gyrosphere pathway. The drive was quiet, and you made your way to the field. Owen came to a stop as a dinosaur laid injured.

“Stay in the car,” He instructed, but you rolled your eyes and got out at the same time he did. “What—what did I just say?”

“This is no time for a pissing contest, Owen.” You mocked him, walking over to the creature and your eyes watering. It was in pain, the claw marks on the body you knew were from the I-Rex. You sniffled a little and kneeled in front of the dinosaur, putting its head into your hands. You cooed at it and rub your free hand on its snout. Owen was on the opposite side of the dinosaur, rubbing its head as you were and its neck. You both didn’t hear Claire get out of the vehicle. She came beside you and you looked up at her, noting the tears welling up in her eyes. The dinosaur took its last breath while its head lay in your hands and you bit your lip to keep you from sobbing. You rubbed the head once more before getting to your feet, walking closer to the field and gasping once you seen.

All the herbivores had died, or were dying, and were clawed. Owen was next to you with a gun in his hand, Claire following beside him. “It—It didn’t eat them,” your voice was soft as you observed the tragedy below you.

“It’s killing for sport,” Owen said matter of factly. Claire’s hands went to her mouth as she stifled a sob. Your jaw clenched as you looked at the dinosaurs before you. The three of you turned to go back to the Jeep, resuming your previous seats.

Owen stepped on the gas and took off, immediately heading into the open Jurassic Park doors. You continued through the forest, Owen looking out through the windshield and you looked out through the side window, pointing once you saw a broken gyrosphere. Owen stopped and the three of you got out to inspect. Owen kept his gun close and both you and Claire watched as he took a tooth from the gyrosphere. Claire immediately panicked as she saw an abandoned cellphone. You went to her side, putting your hand on her shoulder and helped her up.

“Is that theirs?” You asked her and she nodded quickly.

“It’s Zack’s—The oldest.” Her voice was just as panicky.

“Hey, they made it out,” Owen pointed to the shoe prints located in the mud. The three of you took off, following the muddy prints. You all stopped at a cliff, a water fall to your left and no more footprints to follow.

“Oh my God, they jumped!” Claire’s panic came back, and you raised your brows at the thought of the two boys jumping.

“Brave kids,” Owen placed his gun strap around his shoulder.

“Zack! Gray!” You immediately went over to Claire and shoved your hand over her mouth, speaking through your teeth.

“Are you fucking dumb?!” She forced your hand away from her mouth. Owen shushed the both of you.

“Hey! I am not one of your damn animals—”

“Listen, Claire—” Owen placed one of his hands on her shoulder while holding a finger up at her. “Those kids are still alive, but the three of us will not be if you continue to scream like that.” His voice was a hushed tone.

“So,” Claire whispered, “you can pick up their scent, right?”

“Oh you’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” You face palmed at Claire’s question as you whispered to yourself as Claire continued.

“Can’t you? Like, track their footprints?!”

“I was in the Navy not the Navajo!” You snickered at Owen’s remark.

“Well then what do you suggest we do?!” Claire’s whispers were becoming panicky again as Owen assured her.

“Y/N will take you back, and I will find them,” You gawked at Owen and shook your head.

“Over my dead body, Grady,”

“We’ll find them,” Claire pointed to the three of you. Owen glared at the both of you before speaking directly to Claire.

“You won’t last two minutes in there, less in those ridiculous shoes.” Claire glared at him and you nodded.

“I mean, he’s right about the shoes,” You made a hand gesture to her outfit and Claire huffed. She started to roughly take off her belt and you gawked at her, Owen staring at her and trying to avert his gaze to look just as her face. You laughed to yourself as Claire unbuttoned her shirt, tied it, and rolled her sleeves up.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Owen asked.

“It means she’s ready to go,” You responded for the red head, and she nodded. Owen looked over at you and you stood in your normal everyday attire, jeans, and a tank top with steel toed female boots. Owen rolled his eyes at the both of you.

“Okay, but let’s get one thing straight. I’m in charge out here. You do everything I say exactly as I say it—”

“Uhm—” You interjected, disregarding the shiver that ran down your spine at his words.

“Excuse me—” Claire glared.

“Just, relax. Both of you. It’s like taking a stroll through the woods…65 million years ago.” He looked at you and cocked his gun. Claire took off ahead of you and Owen and you. You walked behind Claire; Owen next to you. He leaned over and whispered to you, “don’t think I didn’t notice your reaction.” Your face turned red and you looked over at him, a mischievous grin on his face.

“Bite me, Grady.” You flipped him off and started walking right behind Claire, hearing Owen’s chuckle.

At that moment Owen’s words resonated with you. He was right, it was like taking a stroll in the woods. 65 million years ago. This was going to be a rough rest of the day.

Chapter I|Chapter II

 Chapter III – The Raptors

Present Day (2013)

 You waited on the side lines with your arms crossed as you observed Owen’s behavior with the raptors. He was above the catwalk with his clicker in his one hand as the other was raised. The raptors had just finished their daily pig chase before their alpha awarded them. You smiled a little as you clapped along with everyone else from the display. Your claps slowed as you remembered the night you fell in love with the creatures.

Your hand was still in Owen’s as he led you through the training facility and into the raptor’s habitat. You pulled on his hand to whisper to him.

“There’s no one here, are you sure it’s okay?” He chuckled as he looked down at you.

“I’m sure we will be fine.” You rolled your eyes at his cockiness before he opened the gate to let the raptors inside with the two of you. You kept your body still, too afraid to move because of what you learned from your uncle’s experience. Owen smiled and cooed at the raptors, each one with their own name, and they all ran up to you. Your eyes went wide but you kept your stance and Owen scolded the creatures.

“Hey now, don’t bite her! She’s a friend, like me.” He spoke softly and motioned you to crouch as he was. You didn’t move. He grasped your hand and you kept your eyes on them, and he slowly moved your hand to a stop position. “Let them meet you,” he spoke to you softly and you bit the inside of your lip. The first raptor that came to you sniffed your hand before making a purr noise and letting her head rub against it. Your heart melted at the sight and you smiled a little.

“This one, this is Blue. She’s the Beta.” You slowly crouched next to Owen as he spoke to you, your hand not moving. Each raptor came to inspect you one by one, Charlie then Delta then Echo. The paleontologist in you was screaming in delight, and you couldn’t wait to tell your uncle. Your smile was more apparent now as you observed Owen with them, feeding them their treats and speaking to them. Blue came to you once more before Owen shooed the dinosaurs back into their crates before leading you both out of the habitat. Your heart was warm, a feeling you never had before, and you couldn’t pin-point why. Owen took you back to Sue’s paddock so you could receive your car. You smiled at Owen and spoke to him softly.

“Thank you, Owen.” He smirked. “I mean it, thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Y/N.” His voice was soft as he looked at you gently. You nodded his way and turned to get into your car. You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding and watched as Owen drove away on his motorcycle. At that moment, you realized two things. One, you knew you were going to be working with the raptors despite your promise. Two, you were starting to have feelings for Owen Grady.

You had ceased your clapping as soon as you remembered your feelings for the raptor trainer. You sighed heavily and cursed yourself for the millionth time. You’ve come to terms with it, of course, but you never acted upon them. Not when you found out about his and Claire’s date they had. You knew you wouldn’t be able to stand a chance against her, so you’ve kept yourself silent. You looked up and noticed Owen talking to Hoskins and your annoyance was immediate. You knew Hoskins was there for the wrong reasons even though you couldn’t figure out for what or why. He’s been adamant that the raptors and all dinosaurs can be controlled, and you laid into him the minute he made an advance to turn Sue into a military dinosaur.

You moved from your position to your car before you heard the new employee shout the pig was loose. You looked over towards the paddock and watched the employee topple over the catwalk from above. Your body acted immediately seeing Owen open the gate to go inside with the raptors, something he hadn’t done since they started to mature.

“Owen!” You yelled for him before going into the gate containment as he was yelling at the employees above to not shoot or the animals won’t ever trust him again. Barry, Owen’s assistant, was next to you and helped bring the fallen employee behind the gates as your eyes stayed glued to Owen.

“Blue—stand down. Stand down.” Your heart raced as you kept your eyes on Owen, your hand on the gate pad beside you. “Hey, hey! What did I just say?” His voice was stern, and you immediately felt an attraction to the way his voice was toned. Really, Y/N? Right now you’re fantasizing? Your shook your head of your thoughts as Owen continued. “Delta, I see you, back up!” Your eyes went between Owen and the raptors. “Okay, good—” You noticed Owen stepping back slowly but surely towards the gates and you bit the inside of your lip. “Charlie—Stay right there. Good” You felt Barry’s hand on your shoulder as he was preparing himself to go through the gate if he needed. You put your arm out to block him as you both watched Owen. “Close the gate—”

“What?!”

“Are you crazy?!”

“Hey, just trust me.”  You heard the calmness is Owen’s voice, but you were petrified. You looked over at Barry and you both looked down as the new guy repeated Owen to close the gate. You looked at Barry again.

“Damn it,” you whispered before slamming your hand on the button and turned away to exit before you witnessed a death by raptors. You heard the raptors attack and you were out of the confinement before you turned around after hearing no screams. You let out a breath as you saw Barry helping up Owen. You shook your head and walked to your car, slamming your door shut. You closed your eyes and turned on your car, putting the air conditioning on blast. You jumped as you heard a knock at your window and opened your eyes and saw Owen standing there. You rolled down your window.

“What?”

“What’s wrong?”

“What’s—What’s wrong?!” You rolled your window up and got out of your car, slamming the door behind you before raising a finger to the ethologist. “You were nearly killed! And you’re asking me what’s wrong?! I almost witnessed one of my nightmares come to life, and you’re standing there asking me, what’s wrong?!” Your voice wasn’t raised but it was stern and cold. Owen’s eyebrows were raised, and he opened his mouth to speak but you placed your palm in his face to not let him. “No, I don’t want to hear how the great Owen Grady is the best alpha and can handle four raptors all on his own. No, no, and no. You are insane, arrogant, and—”

“Are you done?”

“—No!” Owen took your hand in his, but you ripped it away, using the pointer finger from your other hand to point at him once more. “You, sir, are an ass. Yes, they listened, but for how much longer would that have been before they attacked and ate you alive?” Owen smirked at her and shook his head.

“You have an aggressive way of showing your attractions and feelings, you know.” You stared at him in shock, not knowing what to say. “Did you think I was going to die? Are you trying to confess your undying love for me, Grant?” He was joking with you, but you were still furious with him for his actions. You smacked him on the chest.

“Up your ass, Grady. You’ll never hear me say those words.” You snickered at him and got back into your car, immediately going into gear and heading off. You looked back in the rearview mirror and noticed Owen still standing where you left him, and your heart sank. Maybe I was too hard on him? Maybe he noticed I was worried? You shook your head from your thoughts as you turned onto the main road, your phone going off.

“This is Y/N Grant.”

“Hello, Y/N, it’s Claire.” You sighed.

“To what do I owe the pleasure of your phone call?” You tried not to sound more annoyed, but you couldn’t help that you were still angry at the events that just happened.

“There’s a new attraction, and Mr. Masrani and I would like for you to come and inspect the animal and it’s paddock. Would you mind?” The eyeroll you made could’ve hurt your brain. This was never ending with her and Masrani. New attraction, come to inspect, use your knowledge on the animal to “subdue” it, and then move on to the next. You took a deep breath before releasing a sigh and speaking to Claire with sincerity.

“Of course, I’ll be there in fifteen.” You had no idea what you were getting yourself into, but you had a gut feeling this wasn’t going to be good.
