I'm highlighting some recently released books today on this rainy Friday. Epic Reads is proud of their recent books published celebrating Black! Boy! Joy! and they want to share them with you. Here are three books that are giving us cause to celebrate during this joyfilled campaign: 🙆🏿‍♂️ Early Departures by Justin A. Reynolds 🙆🏿‍♂️ Charming as a Verb by Ben Phillipe 🙆🏿‍♂️ Not so Pure and Simple by Lamar Giles I'm excited to read all of them and share them with others. Black males are portrayed in negative ways in media and it is crucial for us to break the stereotypes and spread stories that show black males in all their glory. Young, black boys need to be able to see themselves represented doing ordinary things and navigating life and finding love their own sense of happiness in the process. Latinx Heritage Month starts next week. The observance was born in 1968 when Congress authorized the president to issue an annual proclamation designating National Hispanic Heritage Week. Just two decades later, lawmakers expanded it to a month-long celebration, stretching from Septemeber 15 to October 15. The timing is key. Latinx Heritage Month — like its shorter precursor — always starts on September 15, a historically significant day that marks the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. The designated period is also a nod to those from Mexico and Chile, which celebrate their independence on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively. Looking forward to this month's selection for @latinxreadtoo book club. SYNOPSIS: First-generation American LatinX Liliana Cruz does what it takes to fit in at her new nearly all-white school. But when family secrets spill out and racism at school ramps up, she must decide what she believes in and take a stand. Fifteen-year-old Liliana is fine, thank you very much. It’s fine that her best friend, Jade, is all caught up in her new boyfriend lately. It’s fine that her inner-city high school is disorganized and underfunded.
